ghost reacted to CAT5 in THE HIP HOP THREAD!
I've really been diggin' EARTHGANG lately. Their new album "MIRRORLAND" is surprisingly dope. It's been a while since I had some hip hop on repeat....I'm loving the scope and the creativity of their sound...lots of dope production and catchy songwriting that both young and older hip-hop heads can appreciate. These guys aren't super technical or lyrical rappers, but there's a lot of heart and sincerity in their lyrics, and there's a number of lines that stuck with me despite their relative simplicity. Plus their subject matter is generally relatable.
What I love most about these guys tho is just their overall style. They're from my hometown of Atlanta, and while it's kinda hard to describe if you've never really been to ATL, their sound just captures a lot of that eclectic ATL energy. But even speaking more broadly, they just bring a kind of soulfulness that I feel has been missing from a lot of hip hop these days. Stylistically, some of their songs remind me of how I felt listening to Outkast, Goodie Mob (and even early cee-lo green before he went pop).
These two particular tracks is my shit!!!
-----
Sampa The Great's album was also dope, but I've only listened once and need to listen some more...

ghost reacted to Ro plz in lynch. - ULTIMA [Discussion Thread]
Somehow Lynch. was able to keep my interest in those string of Albums that dropped back to back. Once AVANTGARDE came about, it was VERY clear that they were running on fumes but were starting to break out their shell a bit. BLOOD THIRSTY, and SINNERS were more great steps in the right direction even with the absence of AK.
That momentum went out the window when AK came back. XIII was a mess. It was worse than that one album ppl always killed me for hating...what was it? OH "I BELIEVE IN MID." Easily one of the biggest let downs of 2018.
ULTIMA is what XIII should've been. This album is LYNCH showing in length that they're evolving while still staying true to their sound. This shit is a breath of fresh air, dawg. Maybe they realized how they let a nigga down, and they channeled that energy and really crafted something amazing. The energy in this album feels like a huge fuck you to me and anyone else who doubted them. They had something to prove here.
Like dawg, why do I wanna do dirty things to my woman...but dance at the same time while listening to EROS?
Why do I feel like the band sat through a couple of the GazettE's recording sessions and used that influence to create the BANGER that's MACHINE?
Who told them to make DEVIL better by making IDOL? WHO?!!!
What the fuck is Reo and Yusuke smoking? Did AK give them the same weed he got caught with? The fuck is up with the nasty riffage in these songs?
Why do wanna cry after listening to ZINNIA?
I have so many questions after listening to this album. This shit SLAPS. What the hell man.
Even XERO, which i killed sounds good with the rest of the album.
Man 20/10. Fuck the proper rankings.
Unless DECAYS or KEEL is coming back, I aint tryna come back on here and talk about J-rock for the rest of 2020 with yall. This album sealed the deal. Corona virus can take its time. The endless replays this masterpiece will get shall hold me over. Have y'all seen someone so happy with a release that they quit a forum over it? No. Congrats, I just did it. And you just saw it.
Bye. I love you all and ill see you in 2021.

There's a special repress up for Meitei's Komachi. A bit pricey at around $45 USD shipped, but it looks lovely. This is worded much better so I'll just repost the description from the artist's bandcamp:

MAKE IT POP
I haven't seen any kind of general pop thread in the global music sub-forum and that just will not do! 2020 is shaping up to be an amazing year for pop music and there must be a thread to discuss everything pop-related! I'm going start by sharing some upcoming releases I'm looking forward to and then sharing some artists I've enjoyed since last year.
Upcoming Releases
Rina Sawayama
Sawayama (04.17.2020)
-Rina's been making some waves in the indie pop scene. She seemingly just came out of nowhere but managed to make an impression on people with her self-released EP "Rina" with hits like "Cyber Stockholm Syndrome" and "Ordinary Superstar". Her sound is very reminiscent of 90's pop/r&b but she finds ways to make it sound fresh and interesting. She's got a new album coming out in April of this year titled "Sawayama".
Samples
Purity Ring
Womb (04.03.2020)
-Purity Ring is a Canadian electronic pop duo drawing from sub-genres like glitch-pop and synth-pop. While they can sound bright and poppy, their sound is more strongly defined by dark and ominous undertones both lyrically and musically. They're probably most known for their tracks "Fineshrine" and "Obedear". They'll be releasing a new album titled "Womb" in the beginning of April and it's sounding like it'll be a more lighter listen.

Grimes
Miss Anthropocene (02.21.2020)
-I'm sure Grimes doesn't need an introduction. She's known for her unique sound of ethereal and pop music and made hits such as "Genesis" and "Kill V. Maim". Her album "Miss Anthropocene" came out earlier last month and, honestly, it's been one of my favorite releases in 2020 so far. Certainly not the most amazing album and, arguably a bit half baked, but there are some solid tracks on the album and I've been revisiting it often.

Charli XCX
Charli (09.13.2019)
-Charli XCX went to the top of my favorite artists in 2019 when I listened to her latest album "Charli". Her sound was so different than a lot of other pop artists I had heard. While she certainly has songs with tons of pop appeal featuring bright dance-y music and catchy lyrics, she also brings with that a blend of future pop and experimental sounds. The production on her latest record is absolutely amazing and I was hooked from the first track onward. Although I'm a fan of her latest sound, she's probably most known for songs like "Boys" and "Vroom Vroom" (which, I absolutely love both).
Samples
Sophie
Oil Of Every Pearl's Un-Insides (06.15.2018)
-If Charli XCX's recent output is futuristic, then Sophie's music is so far ahead in the pop genre that by the time it's considered a classic the human race will have evolved into a higher physical state (fun fact, Sophie actually produced Charli XCX's EP "Vroom Vroom". ). All jokes aside, this album is quite simply something else. It has a few more traditional poppy moments but the other 90% hits you with leftfield experimental sounds intermixed with soundscapes and industrial bass music. The production on this record is so good though and there were so many times I kept asking, "what the hell was that sound? How did she do that?". It's certainly not for everyone, but for those looking for a more expanded take on pop music, so much as to the point of almost being unrecognizable, I highly encourage you to take a jump.

Let me 2nd the "yes get a pro controller" I can't imagine things like Zelda or Mario without it (even mario maker really doesn't feel right on the joycons)
Do let us know how that SNES-looking controller works though, it definitely *looks* awesome.

ghost got a reaction from SakuraFox512 in What genres would you like to see more of in VK
I'd actually like to see more vkei bands do something with shoegaze, postrock, or melancholy rock. There's been a gaping hole where 9goats black out used to be and I don't think anyone else has done it quite like them.
Or something that's a mix between genres like death metal/black metal and traditional Japanese folk music I think would be very interesting. I'm really into the sound aesthetics of Japanese folk horror (not sure what to call the use of instruments like flutes, traditional drums, and shamisen, so I just made up a name) so mixing that with some catchy metal riffs and some death metal screams sounds like a match made in heaven.

@Mihenno Yeah. The fact that the "dpad" is those set of 4 buttons, thumb will wear out fast. You're right, it's time to live right.
Do you own an OEM pro controller or third party? I always trust products from the official company (and it's currently on sale on amazon), but this SNES themed one looks really tempting:
Edit: I caved and bought the one pictured. I couldn't help it since I found it for just under $40 😅

Pro Controller is a good investment for those games that seem like the joycons would be a nightmare to use.
I would never play Zelda or even Dark Souls without the Pro Controller. I haven't played any fighting games on the switch, but I'd rather have the pro controller to use than anything else. You should really get one.

ghost reacted to Milayou in What genres would you like to see more of in VK
I haven't actively listened to any new VK since 9goats disbanded, they really were a very special band.
I looked through your posts real quick and didn't see a single mention of Plastic Tree, if you want shoegaze inspired VK you really ought to do yourself a favor and check out some of their stuff. They always had a history of flirting with shoegaze and taking elements from the british alternative scene but the most recent music I heard from them really cranked those influences up to 11.
