Yeah, but if you haven't been into rap before now you seriously need to check out the classics from the 80's and 90's. Straight Outta Compton, The Chronic, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, Mama Said Knock You Out, Raising Hell and so on. The amount of must-hear hip hop albums from the 80's and 90's are just insane. Very different from modern stuff tho, but it's not unusual to hear some very, very, very clear nods towards the older stuff.

And if you're into the whole Atlanta trap scene and trap music in general then the 90's Memphis scene is a must. "Everyone" from Drake and Migos to ASAP Ferg, Asap Rocky, Cardi B, Rae Sremmurd, Young Buck, Chance the Rapper, 21 Savage, Chief Keef, Trippie Redd, Lil Yachty, Suicideboys, ScHoolboy Q, E-40, Waka Flocka Flame and many, many more have either used some well-known Three 6 Mafia flows/verses or had beats with Three 6 Mafia samples or just remixed some tracks. Which I really like btw, and it's about time Three 6 Mafia and the Memphis scene finally got the recognition it deserves. Which is also why Juicy J pops up everywhere nowadays. Well deserved. Easily my favourite rap scene and many of my favourite 90's hip hop albums were released by Memphis artists.

The whole "Migos flow" which has been incredibly popular these last decade is basically nothing but a (Three 6 Mafia) Lord Infamous flow, which was a flow that got pretty popular in the Memphis scene during the 90's. And Migos quite obviously got it from them. Such a sexy flow too.

@YuyoDrift - I feel you on YT. Honestly, I kind of keep up to date through keeping tabs on upcoming vinyl releases. There's a couple places where I go to keep my eyes open for popular releases and go from there.

And, kind of silly, but also through meme videos. It sounds funny, but often times I'll find a lot of good music on the most random youtube videos. I found out about Deathgrips and DaBaby that way. And Tyler the Creator I discovered when he made an appearance on The Eric Andre Show.

@Bear Yeah, really fantastic stuff! It's refreshing to hear something so different than his work as Perturbator. Caught me by surprise how good this is. Did you pick up a vinyl copy via Neuropa? Was released like a week ago.

@CAT5 - I'm pretty behind the curve in the J-Indie scene 😂I feel like you probably already do, but have you heard of Otoboke Beaver? Another lovely J-Girl group. Their album/compilation that they dropped this year is in my top 2019 releases.

This has def. been plug'd or dub'd, probably by @CAT5 b/c I remember this. Otoboke Beaver is on Spotify, but Midori is region-locked so it's been a while since I've listened to her.

If you want to crank the screaming/"vocal strain" up to 11 the whole song, akai kurage might be of interest.

I remember listening to "0" a couple years ago. I'll (or someone else) should start a vaporwave thread. Mainstream pop has recently started to implement 80s revival/ net culture elements. While vaporwave didn't take off immediately after its conception, its becoming increasingly popular.

It sure did. Same with Japanese music:

Shame how it's turned out for both countries.

      Korea’s is definitely more noticeable.

It only took less than 10 years and that’s what makes me sick.

@Bear - Sure, sure. But, like Yuyo said, I just think there's a starker contrast between eras in Korean music history. There's at least a wide range of artists in Japanese music even today, but in the Korean music industry you don't see any psychedelic rock or metal bands or experimental musicians in the mainstream. And anything in the "indie" scene is still saturated with pop and hip-hop focused musicians, which is fine, but there's no room for diversity.

  20. Mark my words, this will be 2020's sleeper hit, and a few years from now people will start discovering this masterpiece:
