"10th anniversary" is a bit misleading, considering they were on hiatus for half of it...

Curious to see where they'll play for the World Tour though!

    Did another quick thoughts:

    Red is "blah"
    Orange is "meh"
    Yellow is "hmm"
    Green is "yas"

    "Airaku Nise Kokoro" by Yusai
I was worried that I would feel the same way about this as I do about Kiryu (which is to say that I wouldn't like it), but I find this to be a marked improvement. The chorus of this song feels like it comes out of nowhere though

    "Yuushuudani no Batter" by LACK-CO.
Early Chemical Pictures was probably my favorite of any of Tenten's stuff, and this has a similar feeling which I am enjoying.

    "Shitsumei" by Grieva
I've never really liked Grieva. This song didn't change anything.

    "Lineage" by Versailles
Imagine if the band could actually get real instruments instead of recording violin off of a keyboard? That said, this is one of the better songs the band has done in a long while.

    "Frabjous Nacht" by GRIMOIRE
Haven't listened to this band. The vocalist is maybe a bit too squeaky, but I liked what I have heard and want to check them out more.

"nisemono no utage" by memai SIREN
Not enough to get me super hyped, but I liked the mashup of styles in this song.

"yuuyami ni meidou suru shoudou to koufuku no arika" by Soan Project with Temari
    Art kei, yes please.

"Change your mind" by ame no parade
Kind of nice, but also kind of forgettable

    "New York City" by Tempalay
Blocked and I don't really feel like jumpinf through hoops at the moment to play it.

    "ノクチルカの夜" by まじ娘
Not bad by any means, just ended up feeling a little bland.

    "Ikkyu-san" by Suiyoubi no Campanella
Not really a style I enjoy at all. Though the bass line is nice.

    "Ashita mo" by SHISHAMO
    bloooocked

    "METALIN" by Sokoninaru
From the first couple of second I thought I wasn't going to be a fan of this song, but this song shifts sooooo much over its run time. It's almost like the band wanted to see how many styles they could fit in to a single song. It's odd and a bit jarring, but I thought it was an interesting experiment. I want to see how it holds up to repeat listenings.

    "Remember the Name" by Aiolin
They need to send the violinist over to Versailles to record for a bit lol. I checked this bad out a couple weeks back and I like where they are going. Vocals are the weakest link imo, but not enough to pull them down too much.

Hugh I did not gave GRIMOIRE a chance and that track convinced me. LACK-CO sounds worth looking into too. I wasn't chemical pictures biggest fan (vene though I liked them) but I can see myself getting into L-C.

    Surprised by Grieva's popularity.

yessss, every part of what they do is so on point—aesthetically, musically, the whole thing. love them so much. can't narrow down my favorite tracks in good faith as i need to re-listen to the non-PV songs but the low-slung menace of never end and mime mime is what hooked me at first, and i stayed for the nervous-breakdown-fairytale of boku to tulpa (and the new record!). so so so good. RyNK's vox are so evocative
    oh my gosh that's incredible!?

Those who follow MH's Recommended Tracks series know that any time GRIMOIRE has a new release, they're bound to end up on the list. I'm pretty picky when it comes to contemporary VK, but this band has become one of my favorites currently active in the scene. From their their bedtime/zodiac outfits to their surprisingly well-produced gothic PVs, this band takes full advantage of their visual element. Musically, I like to describe them as 'dark graveyard carnival kei.' Considering that all the musicians all stem from the guilty-pleasure pop band PIECE, I was a little more than surprised when my host boys started churning out chugalicious riffs. Somehow, the style works for them and it's the best (and most technical) they've ever sounded. While their output can be a bit 'samey,' I can't knock them for sticking to a niche concept that is so meticulous (everything from thematic cover art to the scribbly 'handwritten' text on every PV). From what I've read, some people aren't fans of their first release, Hitoritopia, which featured noticeably more amateur production, but lawd, I loved how atmospheric it was. I'm hoping they'll bring back that vibe in full-swing, now that they have the production to properly back it up.

They seem to have just recently signed with Timely Records (DADAROMA, XAA-XAA, etc.), so I see big things in GRIMOIRE's future!

Anyway, it's about time we had a thread for them here! Who else is a fan? Favorite song/PV/release/member? All discussion is welcome!

Probably I will revaluate Lack-co, as their debut work didn't impress me at all...

I don't have much more information on these guys but I am going to let the music speak for itself.  Hopefully you guys enjoy them as much as I have over the last couple weeks!

    This af.

I'm not denying the OP's observations about a certain bias some fans may have, but at the same time, I think a lot of people downplay the uniqueness of different languages themselves. When it comes down to it, it's extremely difficult to find bands singing in different languages that actually manage to "sound" like each other. Even if a German-language band existed that sounded, musically, exactly like THE NOVEMBERS or something, I highly doubt I'd ever enjoy listening to them as much as Japanese NOVEMBERS, just from a phonetic standpoint. And this is coming from someone who studies/teaches/otherwise loves German.

But there's all kinds of biases. There's fans that never go beyond English-language or Anglo/European music. There's Japanese music fans that don't dare touch VK, because it would ruin their cred. There's VK fans who put the blinders on to any other scene or country's music.
