Ah good I wasn't too far off lol. Some of the bands I enjoyed so far this year: ザアザア BugLug DIV nüe SCAPEGOAT DADAROMA Develop One's Faculties Okay that was more than I thought lol. Mucc's mini wasn't bad really, it just wasn't as good as I was expecting. Though I suppose they do deserve an honorable mention. XD There's others that I mildly enjoyed but I'm not excited enough to watch them that closely. Here's hoping more good stuff is still coming up this year.

Awww, thanks for this thread! Hanauta was the song that really got me into them, though I was never able to get my hands on that album so I mostly just watched the video on youtube about a 100 times haha. BULLET had a version of the song that I later just jammed to that quite a bit. Good memories of that album too. But what I'm really gonna miss is the stupid stuff like this...

I'm also a little less than excited about most of the visual releases lately. My interest has slowly been dropping off in recent years, not sure if it's just me or the scene in general causing it. But I can name about 5 visual bands that have released something really interesting for me in 2015 so far. But we still got a way to go so there's time to change that. But since I'm also a little confused by the wording of your question, I'll go a little more general in my answer here. Do I think that visual kei is still "good" in 2015? It's had better years, sure, but that's the pitfalls for any music movement. Rock'n'roll is "dead". Metal is "dead". Punk is "dead". Every genre has a heyday and it passes, so I guess to the general music scene visual kei is not so great anymore. But most of the people are here because we still enjoy it. At least, to some extent. Is this remotely close to what you were asking? X"D

I went and listened to this again since my first pass through wasn't that memorable, tbh. And I have to say, I feel like you're a little harsher on this release that I am, specifically Yuuki's vocals. Not that I'd call them good... but I'd be okay saying they're about average compared to what I think of most of the indies singers I hear these days. But I can't deny the description of "pedestrian, watered-down metalcore" is painfully appropriate here. Nice review!

Currently doing a dance around my house because ONE OK ROCK just got a major US record deal.

Nice. I'm not generally fond of major labels, but I do think this is great for them, and for a Japanese band at that. It's funny because I was just telling beni how I woke up with "Cry out" stuck in my head, and I don't even listen to this band (i think i heard it one plug a few days ago and it wormed itself into my memory). They have what it takes, so I hope they do well.

Haha they got some catchy tunes! XD But hopefully it means more bands will push to come over because it can be done, and alternately more labels will look at bringing Japanese bands over. Someone just has to get it right for once. lol

He did have his surgery, but their site says he never fully recovered and it's too hard to continue.

4 years is still pretty long! I think they are better live than their cds, no? I am jealous you have seen them play new songs! <3 I have seen them 3 times. But they haven't been back to America in 4 or 5 years now I think. Hopefully they come back again soon.
-
This one is one of my favorites by them Hehe yes! Mucc are my favorite of all bands. XD I have loved them for maybe 10 years now? Long time. No matter how they change I still seem to like it. When is saw Mucc on your list I was super happy!

His voice and lyrics will always be special to me too. I'm happy you give them a chance still. I still follow the other members as much as possible. Do to listen to The Bonez? Since the bassist and drummer seem to be active with that band now.

PTP are also amazing. Listening to they're last album still makes me cry. ;~;

You're very welcome. And yes, I love SiM! One of my favorites with One Ok Rock, coldrain, and Crossfaith. Do you enjoy bands like this too?
-
Great list of bands! I like many of those too. Welcome to the forum! If you have any questions those of us with blue or red names are happy to help you out.

Depends on how narrow your definition of vk is, I guess. Not here to argue that soft kei is still visual, though. Just to point out not all the elders in the scene are gone.
-
This might be a topic for another thread tbh. But there are a handful of 15-20 year vk bands still out there. I mean how long has Anti Feminism been around, or kra? Mucc, Merry, Dir en grey, SiD? What would you consider "relevant"?

Glad to see these guys are back in action. This looks interesting...
