I absolutely hate myself for this and shouldn’t have done it (dammit CDJapan and your loyal customer discount coupon!) but I got paid so I ordered Deep Sanctuary VI MALICE MIZER 25th Anniversary Special - Live Blu-ray at Toyosu Pit

After a couple listens, I have to say that I quite enjoy INFINITUM. It's not the album I was wishing for but it's interesting and engaging and in the end, that's more valuable.
 
I guess the real challenge with every new sukekiyo album is letting go of your preconceptions of what they "should" sound like. My personal concept of their sound is primarily influenced by songs like elisabeth addict, in all weathers, focus, 12時20分金輪際, foster mother etc... this blend of something delicate and intimate with something strange and feral, this almost operatic sense and scope of drama and the patience in balancing the subtleties and intricacies of silence and melody with excessive temperament and chaos. ADORATIO went a slightly different route and partly exchanged a wider arc of cohesion and emotional immersion for structural liberty and immediacy. INFINITUM feels similar in that way but it's even more direct and "short of breath"... which is fine but it just doesn't make me feel as involved.

To cap off their 25th anniversary celebrations, cali≠gari is releasing a new EP titled "この雨に撃たれて" (Kono ame ni utarete) on 2019/08/28. It will have the theme of "rain trilogy", i.e. the songs will be connected to rain. Except for the title track, the rest will be previously released songs but in newly recorded versions. Interesting tidbit, the EP will be released under Victor Entertainment.
 
The release will come in two types: 2CD "Yuudachi-ban" edition and CD+DVD "Akisame-ban" edition.

I see you can even listen to your weird japanese metal on Spotify, kids have it way too easy nowadays... 
BACK IN MY DAY I had to hunt single songs in 92kbps on dial-up Limewire and half the time ended up with "I did not have sexual relations with that woman.mp3".
 
Funny story, that's how I got into vk! 13-year-old me was browsing the wide web, probably for some quality Britney Spears, and found a grainy Miyavi's Jibun Kakumei PV instead. With a 20MB download limit per day, I thought CLOSE ENOUGH and the rest is history. 
 
Now I'm back after over 10 years of impersonating a Serious Adult™ and I have Opinions™ to share. 
 
Some bands that I used to listen to (some of which are surprisingly still around!): Miyavi (duh), MUCC, Merry, girugamesh, 9GOATS BLACK OUT, Hora, Kaya, Schwarz Stein (can't believe they got back together, it's like I never left!) and the whole shebang, Aural Vampire, Kagrra,, Yoshiki's classical stuff~
 
And some bands that I've discovered in the past few weeks and absolutely love: Initial'L and consequently Lycaon, DIMLIM, Xaa-Xaa~

Just ordered a pair of the Massdrop x HIFIMAN HE4XX Planar Magnetic Headphones last week and they are already shipped and on the way! Couldn't believe it considering that the ship date was not supposed to be till the middle of July. I really don't need to buy anymore headphones, this pair is gonna make number 10, at this point my headphone rack is starting to look like a youtube reviewers setup

the plus side is that these supposedly sound a lot different than most of the cans in my collection, at least according to several reviewers so... I guess having options in sound signature is pretty dope
