It's constantly streaming, but you do have the option to download any song to the device for offline purposes. Yeah with only 500mb this is probably not for you, it eats up a lot of data, I probably use 2-3 GB of data a month just from this app and I'm not even listening everyday and that often. although there are options to lower music streaming quality that could cut down on on data usage. My advice would be to look into getting more data on your plan (if you can?) if you want to use google music for streaming to your phone on the go.

Google music man, I take all 28,000 songs from my digital collection with me wherever I go. I think they have a limit of 50,000 songs which is insane. all for free. you just have to realize it's gonna take a shit ton of bandwidth to upload all of your collection to their cloud servers initially.

How do you guys recommend moving/backing up nearly 9000 songs? I'm terrified of losing my library if I don't find a way to move them.

no need to spend money on a backup program, just use crashplan It's free for local and network backups and works great. It's what I use to periodically backup my music collection to my external HDD.
