I'm 99% convinced I was the only kid in my high school who listened to VK. My dream back then was to find at least one other girl who also listened to VK who would be my bestie and who would fangirl together with me, so I made my interest pretty obvious (not obnoxious, just obvious). It never happened. The people who would approach me about it listened to regular Jrock bands, but not VK. Even when I would bring up VK bands, they'd just shrug it off and go back to talking about One Ok Rock or something. I guess I'm glad I could make new friends either way, but it didn't fill the void of having another VK fan to share joys and sorrows with irl.
 
And there was no way in heck I could fathom having my main group of friends listen to VK. They were normies in every sense of the word (didn't like anime, geek culture, or anything along those lines). I was the geeky best friend who listened to weird looking japanese bands. We could talk to each other about almost anything, but when it came to VK, I was on my own. I DID turn to making friends online and feel I met some wonderful people. I have one online friend who I met thanks to VK who I love as much as my irl friends, but yeah, like other stories here, they eventually stopped caring about it too. 
 
I've met one guy irl who also liked VK and would talk to me about it, but apart from our interest in VK, he had a terrible personality and I cut him off. Now in university my luck hasn't gotten any better and I've basically had a parallel experience to others here about how even the crowd who's into japanese culture don't like VK. It's disheartening.

People always assume I listen to K-pop the moment they see me. Fun fact: I've never listened to a K-pop song the entire way through besides Gangnam Style and Gentleman by PSY (and that's only because they were pretty much inescapable when they first came out). Not that I have owt against it, I just haven't really listened to it, that's all.
 
I remember showing a VK guy to this guy in my class last year at college and he didn't really think much of him until he put two and two together and realised he was a guy, not a girl. Oh, lordy, I'll never forget the way his face contorted in utter horror and confusion.

When I first got into VK, I got into it with a friend but he has since grown out of it. I feel like it was just a phase for him but it was honestly life changing for me as dumb as that sounds. I think he stopped bothering with it 2011/2012? We'll still bop to Lycaon, Deluhi, Lolita23q, etc from time to time if he's in my car, but he's completely oblivious about all new bands that came about within the past 7 years or so.
 
The rest of my friends know I listen to it, but no one is really interested in taking a dive into it themselves. Honestly, 90% of the time they're forced to listen to VK whenever they're in my car so they have no option but to listen to it lmfao. Some of them even have a specific song they like and ask me to play, but there's no real interest there for them to delve into it any further. Maybe I'm lucky? Nobody, not even my family, gives me a hard time about it or makes fun of me or anything. 

Honestly, I hang with a buncha G's that wouldn't want to be associated with VK in the least

In HS I had one friend who loved X Japan, one was a metal head and loved stuff like BFMV and kinda liked the GazettE and the other who was more grunge liked the pillows. Everyone else thought it was Chinese rather than Japanese. Now, nearly 30, those friends are long gone, and the only person I talk to on a regular basis doesn't care about that sort of thing as that's not what we bond over. I've always been a loner and it's very much true that as the older you get it's harder to form new friendships, but over time you get used to not having friends and those you do you tend to only initiate when you have something to tell them, otherwise you just let them contact you first which means that you could go anywhere from a week to a month or more without speaking.

i probably have more involvement on stan vk twitter than the average poster here. overall i don't really mind intense fandom stuff, it's nice to see people care so much about what they love.

but the described phenomenon of fans falling in love with their favs ("gachikoi" fans) is kind of the crux of bad fan behavior in vk in general, to me. people are simultaneously super judgmental (towards themselves and others) and super defensive about the potential that they might have actual feelings for their favorites. i feel like the advent of fanfiction, roleplay, etc. in the western fandom is probably sometimes related to young girls needing some outlet for these feelings (and sexuality in general but that's a whole nother can of worms). it's also i think what motivates some women to pull the "i'm a better fan" or "___ is a bad fan" thing -- they want to believe that they're worthy and others are not. stan culture is only fun when it's not competitive like that tbh.

I really do wonder how many foreign fans complaining about this followed Kagekui to begin with. I swear there were only like 5 of us in their foreign fan base, but I'm seeing this shared everywhere now with fake outrage. I guess all publicity is good publicity, boys.

There are many people on fb/instagram too who are throwing shit on them with a bloody mouth and it's fucking annoying. Most of them don't even know the band and acting like they're personally attacked. 🙄 So bad, being so butthurted about a thing they don't even related to.  For God's sake there are even bigger bands using real stories/tragedies for their songs/themes and nobody gave a shit.

tbh It's not really ridiculous if the vocalist and his fiancee plan to continue their relationship. As if the affair itself wasn't a big enough offense, continuing to work with "the other woman" would just be throwing salt on the wound.
 
Affairs are hurtful, messy business and they usually have these kinds of negative ripple effects.

I really like the song. It sounds a lot more polished than what I expected. It's not as chaotic as Gossip, but I think this is their way of trying to build their own identity. That cover art is something else though. Like something a high school garage band would come up with.

I enjoyed that, it's nice to see that they're forging an identity of their own now.
