I agree, particularly with "They can't just call a mediocre album a mediocre album, or even acknowledge a bad song/album because of hype. It's all got to be amazing, flawless, like the second coming of Christ."
Becuase it is what it is. It's a fad, a cultural phenomenon, something that's so good right now! even if it actually sucks, is actually losing its shine etc. because now international media has appropriated it to the point of making it seem like a political agenda its original creators never reeeally intended it to be, y'know. And, well, my point being exactly that they did intend it to be a political agenda... a lot. Just probably not to this degree.

But - it's somewhat akin to what anime was in the past, right? The whole "anime aesthetic", "anime game" (which was literally just: japanese game with cartoon graphics ... lol ; ; ; ), "anime whatever" of the 90s and maybe even early 2000s. And it was cool around the world, and then suddenly it wasn't cool anymore. Before that, the hippies were cool, etc. Think of whatever cultural fad to illustrate my perspective.

So, I guess what I was trying to argue before is exactly that - sure VK was never terribly mainstream, but everyone who's like 30 now probably lived an era when it was, at the very least ... cool. In a, y'know, oh, ok, these kids with the colorful Final Fantasy hairstyles are actually creating something artistically new. Until, again, it wasn't anymore. And before not being cool anymore of course it was appropriated in many ways - it's not really a coincidence that every bandomen from back then suddenly became ~*multicultural and global*~. Anyway... So it's not really a coincidence that some elements are present in both because, well, pop culture/media/etc works like that. Not to say "nothing is new" but of course some trends will be literal emulations or polar opposites of others. Making these "others"' presence undeniable.

I don't believe there is a thread here for this site, but [ZOMBIEXJUICE] is a gallery for both scans and lyrics, originally created by @Arithmetica that I inherited last year and have been slacking on updating.

The focus is predominantly on old-school bands, but I've been adding scans of whatever I have lying around. I'm currently in the process of organizing old content and providing thumbnails so it's a little easier to get around.

The latest update contains scans of the following:

    -暗黒世界ハ闇 omnibus
    -狂死楽園 by Madeth Gray'll

    1. DIAURA - the one current VK band that has never let me down, ever.
    2. GOTCHAROCKA - Some of the most catchy VK melodies I've ever heard. Shortcake is an earworm that I would be happy to have stay with me forever.
    3. SCREW - they deserved so much better than the industry gave them. (One band that would have been far better off never crossing paths with PSC).
    4. GazettE - the Holy Trilogy of NIL, Stacked Rubbish and DIM alone would get them this spot.
5-7 - the three BP Records bands, Kiryu, Royz and Codomo Dragon. Yes, they overflood the market with singles, but when they're on, they're ON, and each band has a unique charm. (Codomo Dragon, in particular, has put out some gems - Viper has one of the best openings ever).
    8. Moran - only found them after they'd disbanded, wish to hell I'd found them during their heyday. Wonderfully deep, layered, sophisticated music - there isn't much other VK that can honestly be described as jazz-rock.
    9. Alice Nine - if only because they were my first VK love and they earn a spot on my personal hall of fame with Rainbows and The Beautiful Name alone.
    10. Lycaon - They were a rowdy, dirty sex band, but they were a damn GOOD rowdy, dirty sex band. (The more toned down Initial'L incarnation just isn't the same).

Honorable mentions include D=OUT, Mejibray, Fest Vainqueur, Morrigan, Jiluka, BORN, Kagrra and older Kra (I think a lot of people forget how damn GOOD they were from their launch until they lost their original guitarist).

I agree wholeheartedly although I can't say I ain't the positive vibes only crowd lately, I think sometimes that also comes with like the tiredness of being the nth generation of systemic oppression and be like, ok, since this age of information makes everyone forget their wrongdoings so easily then I'll also give myself free pass to forget mine. No idea if realizing this makes me compassionate or it's just that I relate to these people on some degree, or both lol. But I guess this is what gives either way. Yes, some of the less compassionate people are also the ones talking the most about compassion.

ahaha, you ALREADY know! There's a lot that could be said here, but I'll try to keep things concise:

Essentially, I agree with what the author is trying to say. This new-age, "positive vibes only" / positive psychology nonsense is simply not functional. I see this type of stuff parroted in so many different ways on social media and people are just eating it up. It's like sure, it's good to be positive, but you also have to be sober-minded. Being positive does not mean you should just ignore the negative. No, not at all. Being positive is about being able to recognize, assess, and deal with the negative and still be able to move forward and grow inspite of it. In fact, if you can't do that, then you're not really being positive at all. You're just deceiving yourself.

In order to heal, you must first correctly diagnose the ill. And if you're reaping bad fruit in your life, you have to go back and look at the seeds that were planted.

Doing this takes honesty, humility, bravery, and compassion. You have to be honest enough with yourself to even recognize and admit that you've reaped bad fruit in your life. You have to be humble enough enough to take on the responsibility of dealing with that bad fruit (instead of pridefully claiming victimhood). You have to be brave enough to take on the daunting task of searching for and plucking up all of the roots that bore this bad fruit (cuz it can be painful and hella uncomfortable). And you have to be compassionate enough with yourself to realize that this is not an overnight process, and not beat yourself up for it.

But the people who have allowed themselves to be possessed by this "positive only" stuff are doing themselves and others a huge disservice because they negate everything i just mentioned in the last paragraph. As a result, these people are usually the opposite of honest, humble, brave, and compassionate. How can they be honest with you when they can't be honest with themselves? How can they be compassionate towards you when they can't be compassionate towards themselves? If they can't deal with the discomfort of dealing with their own selves, what's gonna happen when you come along and inevitably make them uncomfortable simply by being human? --> These are the same kinds of insecure, feeble-minded, and bitch-hearted people that will cut you off just for having a difference of opinion or a different perspective than they do. The kinds of ppl that get anxiety attacks when you tell them the truth about themselves.

So yeah, that whole positive-only nonsense disarms people from being able to competently deal with negativity, or rather things that make them feel negative or uncomfortable. Which is really just disarming ppl from dealing with reality in general. It doesn't help that this bitch-made attitude is being increasingly supported here in western culture. It's like so many people are trying to make the world into one big "safe space", but there's way more of the world than there are any of us individually, so the more functional idea would be to simply get comfortable being uncomfortable.

    That wasn't necessarily concise

When people say that they need rational and empirical evidence that God exists, I just imagine one of two scenarios happening:

#1. The world's top scientists publishing a study called "Proof of God"  with said evidence.

    or

#2. God appearing in a humanoid form and showing the world that he has control over everything by performing various miracles.

In both cases, this would completely miss the point of "believing" in God. I guarantee that most of us would see all of that proof and "empirical evidence", and the world would not change a bit. We'd see it and say "oh, that's cool.", then go back to treating each other like shit.

It’s 2020 and people still arguing over buying a CD?!? We have iTunes and we have streaming services these days. Even the most indie western band would have their songs upped. What’s that? Your obscure Japanese bands are not? Well, blame them for being elitist in turn for irrelevancy. Ironic.

Like honestly, support when/if you can. It is not mandatory. Especially if your faves are attached to label. Unless self produced, those munnies would mostly ended up to the labels and producers bank accounts. However, it will ensure your band to not be dropped for having low sales.

But if you wanna support your bandomen and ensure that they would afford their next bowl of Yarou Ramen, or their Gucci/Chrome Hearts earrings, then you better be buying official bands merchs and/or attending their shows if/when they make stops to your area or nearby. much like drag queens, those bookings fee is how these bandomen paying their bills..., and some gari gari kun for that matter.

There are people with health bills, children and other dependants who still love visual kei but unfortunately have to skip lunch/transport to save that money for bills and other necessities. If you are able to devote those coins for your favorite bands then you are extremely lucky tbh. I totally agree that we should support bands we love and that if you can sacrifice that weekly McDonald's trip to support artists its a win win situation, but it's not that simple for everyone.
