At this point, if the recordings actually existed, the internet would've been flooded with promos, advertisements and 'buy all 5 versions get a Yoshiki hug-pillow' giveaways. He's not the person who's supposed to print and package the CDs, so what's the problem? I guess milking his medical condition, traveling to France 2 weeks post-surgery for movie-related promotions and saying he might not be able to tour next year in a way that could also insinuate he might be dead by then is a lot more fun? (Bonus: drama has the potential of making everyone forget they promised to release an album by the end of the month??)

You know how sometimes you go years turning a blind eye on bullshit and drama-queendom and then something seemingly not out of the ordinary makes you flip? So this tweet. I know a lot of vkei is people being really emotionally invested in bands and their narratives, but this is just BAD. I don't wanna think about how some of the people who are TRULY invested in this might react if something happens.
  4. my depression is back. also i may have been focusing on 3rd row gaijin the entire time because i read the thread before watching the video.

Trinity's final look this week is so vkei lol

Anything by BAISER!!! Yukari just sounds so happy even when the song itself sounds kinda dark, idk. Definitely goes with my definition for summer! Psycho le Cemu's Ai no Uta is very summery. Their cover of Roman Hikou too, but that's cheating.

I feel this so much. I always thought of myself as a music geek but at some point most of my geek-powers drained into mostly Japanese music and BAM, now I don't know shit about music when I talk to 'serious' music people (= people who listen to western music?). Mind, I'm by no means an expert, just very enthusiastic. But so are most of them?

already added some stuff from this list to my playlist. minakekke is a real jewel. also i'm dying to try shellmy because from the review they sound absolutely delicious, and when vkei is good it adds years to my life. will probably get to it later today.

@sheepprincessgarayes, thank you. plus, and i really hope it's not the case here, but if someone's man enough to drink/sleep with a bunch of underage girls they should be man enough to face the consequences. a fan will usually only go as far as you enable them (unless they're like... a psycho stalker/killer lol).
  10. today i got kicked in the face at a live. i think there should be like a badge for that or some shit.

Agreed. Probably the weirdest editing decision they've ever had. Like bye gurl don't need a whole segment of you packing up. It was especially cringey with Valentina, and I love Valentina. It just felt forced.

fuck yeah! i guess it means Pla are gonna be on MUCC's tribute album planned for later this year?
  14. Luna Sea just KILLED Budokan. Like literally I think Sugizo may have killed a guy who was sitting on the second floor with a water bottle. But seriously it was a GORGEOUS performance.

everyone and their grandma are flailing in excitement over this week's episode and i'm like 'seriously?'
  16. Kis-My-Ft2 is probably the best example of JE mishandling (oh snap) the few talented idols they do manage to produce. They were kept as juniors for far too long and when they finally debuted it was way past their momentum and everything was just... meh?? since then. Tragic.
  17. I heard rottengraffty's Sekai no Owari the other day and my first thought was that I won't be surprised if it's a deliberate half-tribute to MUCC's Sora to Ito

Ooh this is a cool topic! My parents listen to a mix of soviet rock and pop, western rock bands (Queen, AD/DC, Aerosmith) old MTV hits and current alt rock. It's actually fun to think about how their tastes in music developed, influenced by their environment. They grew up during the perestroika, when all the fun began - local artists could record without getting shit from the government and it was a lot easier to get your hands on western music. Then the 90s came along and they (especially my mom) were glued to MTV. So I grew up listening to a bunch of styles and genres. One of my first memories is how when I was a kid my mom and I would wait for Erasure's Always video to come up on MTV. lol But Russian rock is definitely their favorite. One of the songs we'd listen to a lot during car rides etc. was Chto Takoye Osen ("what's autumn") by DDT. These guys are pretty cool, and I was surprised to find out they're still active. I think this song is one of the reasons I'm drawn to very... emotional, Nostalgia-kei stuff. So much feels in that voice! Another thing I like about soviet/Russian rock is that many bands seemed to sing about space. Even the chorus of the one I linked to above goes "autumn, there are ships waiting in the sky/ autumn, it would be nice to get away from Earth" -- I don't blame you man. Another family favorite is this gem: It's basically all about "we're in space, our mothers miss us, we dream about the green green grass on Earth". Kinda makes me wonder how they never got into David Bowie. tl;dr my parents like rock music and songs about space and this is why I'm weird.
  19. So there was always this sweet little v-kei section at the main branch of Disk Union in Ochanomizu. Today I went there with a friend who's visiting Tokyo, hoping to find some lolz or land one of the cool rare releases they sometimes had there. But when we got there it was gone, replaced with a general 200yen/loud rock section. I'll be lying if I say it didn't sting a bit. </3

I was in the first row for MUCC's culture center live in Mito last week, and when they switched parts for their first encore Tatsuro played the bass and I could see there was a guy holding a big cardboard sign in the gap between the seats and the stage, running after him as he moved on stage. Then I saw the sign had bass tabs written on it. He was still messing it up and it was very cute. It got even funnier when they used the smoke machine during Ranchuu and he was squinting to look at the tabs through the smoke. I'm a sucker for silly gags like this so it made me really happy.

I always get shy around Japanese fans/bangya, to the ridiculous point that yesterday I was next to this girl and she was alone and looked very friendly but the only interaction we ended up having is after the live, when we spent like 5 minutes apologizing to each other about accidentally bumping our heads while moshing. D: Maybe spending 6 hours on a bus with people could be more beneficial for that purpose. Or seizing the moment and actually TALKING to people. I think that would be my tip - don't be me, talk to people, they all seem so nice! Anyway I'm spoiled so I always find a way to get home the same day - the furthest I've traveled so far for a live was from Tokyo to Ibaraki.

I recommend Bamboo House in Nippori (Fujimi). It's in a quiet alley but close to Nippori station (Yamanote Line~!). I lived there for two months before I "officially" moved to Japan and have a friend who lives there now. I can't vouch for all the people who live there because many of them don't stay for a long time, but noisy/annoying neighbors can be found aplenty anywhere.

I used to watch this on repeat. So much good. My wtf moments: - People losing their shit over some nude cheki. - That time MUCC and Sid were touring together and Mao tried to sing Ranchuu. Growlord. This thread is amazing.

My first v-kei lives were at Visual Japan Summit last year. I went to the 3rd day and managed to catch: ぞんび - super cute! Love their concept and they are beautifully produced. Versailles - their set was 3 songs but they gave their all! Diaura - haven't heard of them until that day so that was a fun surprise! And their bangyas are awesome. MUCC - I was a casual listener until then but I completely fell in love that day. They sound x10000 time better live and are so energetic on stage it's ridiculous. Golden Bomber - they were hilarious, their X Japan cosplay and digs at v-kei were on spot, and they let Yoshiki troll them which was very cute. Luna Sea - flawless. X Japan - 2 hours of basically Yoshiki masturbating and crying but I drank the kool aid so I enjoyed every moment of it. And then everything started going downhill 2016.10.30 - VAMPS Halloween Party. I'm not a big fan of VAMPS but it was really cool. Plus Momoclo were there too and they're totally my fav aidoru. Wagakki Band were pretty awesome too! 2016.11.25 - COMMUNE Vol.2 - DEZERT were fun, Plastic Tree were cool (they mostly have nostalgic value for me), MUCC stole my heart yet again. lynch. were supposed to be on the lineup as well but Akinori just had to go and get arrested a couple of days before. 2016.12.22 - Aldious - I'm not the biggest fan of Re:NO but she was surprisingly good that night (I think she sounds a bit anemic on their studio stuff). 2017.01.06 - te' - not v-kei but I guess talking about Japanese bands in general is cool? I was floored. They're just electrifying live. 2017.01.08 - Luminous101 - another 'not-v-kei'. They are a super cute indie band and they sometimes kinda sound like Weezer. 2017.01.23 - Arimura Ryutaro - I love his solo album, it really reminds me of old Plastic Tree stuff. The concert was really good. I wrote some stuff about it. 2017.01.29 - This is the FACT - a livehouse headlined by DEZERT, with A9, Nocturnal Bloodlust, LM.C, アルルカン and MUCC. It was an exhausting yet incredible experience. 2017.02.04 - MUCC - I saw them twice that day and lived to tell the tale. 2017.02.18 - Wagakki Band - I got tickets after seeing them at the Halloween party and thinking they were really cool. I grew kinda bored with them as the initial wow factor wore off, but live they were still kicking ass and it was an incredibly entertaining show.
