Himeaimichu reacted to The Reverend in #98: 四季彩-shikisai- by 和楽器バンド
Had a long drive over the weekend and noticed this album was on Spotify so finally gave it a listen (the tracklist is completely different on Spotify for some reason).

Basically my biggest complaint. Their sound is novel and cool in small doses... but over an entire album almost becomes a gimmick. The vocalist's unrelenting vibrato on some tracks can wear on you. Agreed the production is great though.

This band would be a great candidate to just eschew the concept of a full album in general. If they released a single a season with a cool video (as they definitely have the capability of making) they'd probably be one of my favorite bands.
I wouldn't even consider just releasing single songs (or maybe singles with a b-side) as 'fleecing' since they put their shit online. A $5 single four times a year probably makes the people who buy physical copies happier in a 'have a bigger collection of *things* for the same price' way and the people who aren't buying their albums anyway don't get tired of the slog through an album and forget about them the rest of the year.

These record labels really need to hire me and let me enact my vision for a perfect world

Well, Rozz Williams (Christian Death) kinda did something  similar back in the 80s/early 90s

But this might just be a coincidence. Rozz had some sort of influence on VK though. I think there was an interview of Baiser's Yukari where he stated that he was very much into Alien Sex Fiend and Christian Death and some of VKs root sound and looks can be traced back to deathrock music and fashion. But Kiyoharu, Kon and Co. might have also come up with that stuff all by themselves.

Himeaimichu got a reaction from efuru in Do you think there exists a possibility of visual kei taking off in china?
Well, there is a subculture in China that is inspired by Vkei called Shamate, but they're hated by the general public, since, well, it's like any alternative counter-culture.
They're mostly made up of Rural Young Adults who go out into the city to work and make a living for themselves. They're generally closely knit and consider themselves to be family. Mostly because the entire public hates them xD.
As far as I know, there doesn't seem to be a Shamate music scene, they just stick to American Rock and Japanese VisualKei.
Even though there are literal millions of Shamate out there, they're not really a big, vocal movement. They just want to live how they want to, despite how much the public hates it.
Vkei itself is interesting though because it's an indie-based scene (For the most part) that has a huge following. It's a rare occurrence, since most indie music scenes have small, online followings.

Rock music in general that isn't Pop Rock is quite rare in Asia outside of Japan, especially in China and Korea, with their Confucian based conformity culture. Japan also has this especially, but not to the extent of China and Korea. China also has a strict government that enforces conformity (i.e the government trying to force Mandarin in Guangdong and other non-Mandarin speaking areas). As with the Shamate movement, it's really hard for any counterculture movement to get their expression out. Also, knowing how much China controls their internet and media, it's likely that the government could even easily suppress a rock music movement if they wanted. China itself isn't known much for having any sort of underground music movements that gain ground.

Basically, it'd be much easier to try in either Taiwan, or Hong Kong, especially since Hong Kong is famous for having one of the biggest thriving underground music scenes.

Though, one crazy idea is for a band with a good enough following and a record label they own to support some Chinese VisualKei bands and sponsor some tours, but the last occurrence of that kind of band with that kind of label with that kind of following is Kisaki and his label Undercode... and well... we all know what happened to that...
BP records could try, since their bands already perform in China, and there could be potential money to be made, but I doubt they've thought of it.

I'd really like to see Vkei become a "thing" somewhere else though, so it'll last longer. But, when looking into the reality of things, Vkei seems like something that could only exist in Japan (And Sweden but what doesn't exist there?)

Don't know whether this is a newb, troll, or is just delusional. (What's worse is that it comes from an argument on Vkei being Emo. Yeah to end it all, last time I checked, Emo was Rites of Spring, Fugazi, Sunny Day Real Estate, AFI and Jawbreaker)

And yes, definitely the ancient Japanese, the Jomon and Yayoi peoples, were playing heavy metal while wearing a lot of makeup. Forget all those archaeologists who said they only had 6 string Kotos and Clay flutes. This guy is obviously an expert on Vkei

Even though I consider myself an X Japan fan, I agree with your points.. I wouldn't ever attend an X Japan concert on it's own anyway, because of the crappy theatrics. Also, it's not the same without Hide. (Though, I do think that Hide is horribly misunderstood by Vkei fans. He was more than a sad guy, he was unstable, and needed therapy).
Heck, X Japan themselves aren't as important as they're hyped up to be. I mean, Saver Tiger formed first, and D'erlanger and Dead End got popular way before X. Also, ToshI got his famous look from Kyo of D'erlanger. Before that, X looked much different.  Heck, X even copied a few riffs from their fellow indie bands (Blue Blood taking their intro from Crows in Black by Rosenfeld) and they weren't any more than another indie early Vkei band until Hide came along. Heck, apparently, the term "Crime of Visual Shock" came from another band, though someone will have to confirm that for me.
And while Extasy bands did go on to major labels and all, not even the labels prevented Zi:Kill and Glay from breaking up, and I don't ever hear about Tokyo Yankees anymore. Gilles de Rais was a failure too. The only former/current Extasy bands that still preform that I can think of on the top of my head are Luna Sea, X, Tokyo Yankees and Glay. Ultimately, Dynamite Tommy's Free Will label was more successful in the end, because they're still a driving force.
While X may have been one of the first Vkei bands to go major, that isn't nearly as important as the driving force in the indie scene, as Vkei is built from the ground up. The indie bands are the backbone.
I'm going on a soapbox here, but I felt this needed to be said.

I'm guessing they're doing 2 full albums because they have a bunch of material not released and vkei is marketed in such a way that rewards rapid, continuous content, rather than sporadic releases that build upon a legacy.

Actually, Kamijo supposedly gave them the idea of the name and said they should use it, and gave them that bogus explanation of it meaning grey coin in English, french and german, which they used to mention in interviews until they released the truth that it was utter garbage.

I'm going to bet also that any makeup steals by Kyo would be from Kiyoharu and not from Kon. For some reason visual kei musicians are very wary about taking influence from contemporaries, which is why when there are sessions and things they usually cover bands from the previous generation rather than their friends.
