I find it unnerving that if you're in a 90s vk band that happened to be making dreadful music you could still gloriously play this "sincerity" or "passion" card; but if you're doing well in today's vk scene suddenly it's all because you have great bells and whistles + good at being a shameless sellout because, alas, you've arrived 10 years late and the ethereal spirit of vk no longer permeates your soul.

You have put in words what I've felt for so long.

  2. I was quite impressed by Versailles' Masquerade when I first heard it... then realized that listening to a Versailles album is more like listening to just one super long song. They do have great songs, Kamijo is a great vocalist, Hizaki an outstanding guitarist... but I feel they are repetitive.

I got the same vibe from Jupiter. I heard their first single and sounded exactly like Versailles, just with another vocalist, so I didn't really give them another shot.

I'll probably be hated for this but Malice Mizer was another dissapointment for me and the only songs I can actually like are Beast of Blood, Illuminati and Gekka no Yasoukyoku, which as a matter of fact only grew on me because of D's cover... As good musicians as they may be/have been the two or three albums I tried to listen to sounded dull and boring.

  3. Hollowgram is still active? I could have sworn they had vanished and Ryo was now singing in Keel... Then again everytime I check on him he is doing something different.

D may be going downhill musically speaking, but as long as Asagi can sing (and even his disease hasn't fully stopped him yet) D will remain active. All we can do is pray he gets over that whole Alice in Wonderland piñata-like-thing and takes a long good look at his first works.

That whole DEG thing sounds exactly like L'Arc en Ciel... which means that, exactly like L', instead of calling it quits once and for all they'll throw some separate recordings together, release something every once in a while, make a shitload of money and keep ignoring each other. I wouldn't put my money on their disbandment, since they are actually expecting us to put it in their new single.

Crim just left Elysion and, sadly, his girly looks are what seem to make them popular (at least on social media and among all vk listeners I know outside this forum), so I'm guessing they won't last much longer.

  4. 10 Quality Time

    9 Receiving Gifts

    6 Words of Affirmation

    5 Acts of Service

    0 Physical Touch

Doesn't surprise me at all since I hate being touched, even by my best friends, and I love when my friends give me food XD my best friend is often busy and he knows I'm happy with just a cookie or something edible like that instead of spending long hours with me haha

  5. Just thought of a bunch of bands and realized half of them are disbanded already or aren't really visual kei so... here's what I follow if it's active and what I keep listening to even if some are long gone.

    Active bands:
    1) D

    2) Matenrou Opera

    3) VRZEL

    4) Gotcharoka

    5) Diaura

    6) Morrigan

    7) Jiluka

    8 ) Hollowgram/Keel

    9) Holyclock

    10) Exist Trace

    Disbanded or in eternal hiatus:

    1) As'REAL
    2) Kagrra

    3) Malisend

    4) D'espairsRay

    5) 9Goats Black Out

    6) Syndrome

    7) Janne Da Arc

    8 ) Laputa

There's stuff like Luna Sea, Acid Black Cherry and Vamps that I can't really count as VK so... I would have another top ten of non-vk rock bands that I follow XD

  6. I must say I was dissapointed. But not surprised really. Burning Soul was a great song, Ether was... well, was. Not too awesome, but not a bad song either. I was hoping of something better, but their digital releases didn't seem memorable to me. Sure, they improved in the instrumental area and the first part of the songs did look interesting enough, but they were too long and not catchy enough to compensate that lenght.

Pandora was great, but way too short, as opposed to their two last digital releases. Fantasia is the only song that really blew my mind.

Best tracks: Pandora, Burning Soul, Silent Scream and Fantasia.

As much as I love MO, since Kassai to Gekijou no Gloria, and counting some exceptions of course, their releases have gone slowly and steadily downhill (which makes me sort of understand why Anzi would want to pursue another direction, musically speaking). I hope that Chikyuu is their rock bottom and that they will improve on this. I also hope they find a great guitarist. Filling Anzi's place after eight years isn't that easy.

  7. Thanks!

Lynch and Kiryu are actually in my "to listen to" list, I raided a friend's hardrive a little while ago and took everything she had from them. But I haven't actually sat down and listened to them yet. I'll check Arlequin out!

Blesscode I've heard and they are pretty good.

  8. Thanks! I'm sure I'll enjoy it. It's been a while since I've joined a forum but my past experiences were awesome.

I really enjoy L'Arc/Vamps (my introduction to japanese rock and later on the VK scene). Acid Black Cherry, D, Matenrou Opera, Malisend, VRZEL, Luna Sea, Buck-Tick, Diaura, Rayflower, Ling Toshite Shigure, Biosphia, D'espairsRay, Mardelas, The Lotus are among some of the (many yet not that many) bands I like. Nocturnal Bloodlust is growing on me, despite being a lot heavier that what I'm usually into :P

For some reason I haven't been able to get really into Malice Mizer/Moi Dix Mois/Kamijo, no matter how much I listen to them.

Edit: Kagrra, Morrigan, Exist Trace and Mucc are also among my favorites.

  9. Hi everyone

My name is Komorebi, I am from Chile and after snooping around for a few days I decided to join this wonderful forum

I've been listening to VK/(J)Rock for about 5 years (yeah, not that long) and this year I started getting more into the newer bands, so there is A TON of music I do not know (this includes many older or "classic" bands from the 90's). That being said, I am open to any reccomendation. I'm more into melodic and clean vocals than growling but I give every band a shot to prove their worth and talent. I dislike judging a band based solely on their looks so I avoid youtube.

I hope I can get along with everyone here and maybe even make some good friend.

    Have a great day/afternoon/evening~
