    I wonder if say Happy Life will even be on the next album? I always perceived it more as a part of the NO SMART era, but they do have a history of jamming singles into albums regardless of whether they fit or not  Recording a more straightforward album like NOnsenSe MARkeT feels right for the time, and they got to stretch their songwriting muscles a bit too with it and Beautiful Freaks, but I also miss retro guro Merry. And it's not like they have given up on that, take a song like [collector] for example! That hits all the right spots, but ended up only as a single b-side,  as have all their most out there songs really [Oriental BL Circus, Charlie, stupid x cupid...] I wonder how much of it is label pressure and how much - self-censorship. Good thing we have the concerts at least. If you're asking about current favorites, I'm so stuck on the '09 Shinjuku Loft Concert (Identity/BURST EPDVD).

    Since you reminded me about it a few days ago, I've been listening to Koseiha Blend Classic on repeat... well, even more than usual XD So. Good. Ngh. Just the amount of raw creativity that went into Merry's early singles, you don't even need fancy instrumentals or production for it to count.

    Other than that, well, even as they may be flawed, there is something I love about each of their albums. (Moderngarde being the exception to this rule, as I  think it's basically perfect ). There isn't a band I'm rooting more for, what with all the introspection in the last two albums, I'm curious what that will lead to. If one day they manage to create an album that combines all I love about them, it will probably be my undoing.

    yaaaassss almost exactly what I think of Rei-Rei 💕just didn't know how to say it!!

    And I didn't even realize that!! I wouldn't be surprised if Fuyu no Castanet served as an inspiration or smth to them, since this is the only song like this that they've ever done~ and yeah, it was hard for me to get into them too, since they're a smaller band, but later on I fell in love orz 💦💦

    I'm glad you're starting to like them, more Merry fans should definitely check them out!!

    Gendai Stoic vibes indeed, at least when it comes to Rei's singing  And do I even hear a bit of Fuyu no Castanet in Amesansan? Not sold on them yet, but I think I may get there. Just watched Amaji 3 times and Rei didn't miss the chance to make me smile every time (that note at 2:09, he's so like a cat). And he gives off a different vibe from young Gara anyway, lighter - less drive or melancholy, more whimsy?

    Okay, so this band is my MOTHERFUCKING LIFE. ok that's too much but still *looks at her small Marco collection, along with other cds from Rei's previous bands* They capture the spirit of MERRY perfectly, especially their old visual era. Rei is a huge fanboy of Gara especially, you can clearly see that in his vocal abilities, and well, just look for yourself:

    He even has his own corset too, and likes to do handstands sometimes. xD That's some devotion right there.

    Marco deserves more recognition than what they have now, and the fact that they're only releasing live-limited CDs at the moment is just wrong ;w; I was very lucky to get Amesansan, because it really does sound a lot different from their usual songs, and it's pretty~ I hope they stick to releasing more music soon, aside from venue-limited ones, so that I can hear more of them without having to hunt shit down at auctions!! ;w;

    I really, really like this band, and I just wanna see them grow and grow. What do you think?

    Also happy to meet you! You can say I got into Japanese rock three years ago, only I spent the first 2 of them playing BUCK-TICK on repeat. 2016 was the year I managed to separate from the mother planet enough to really get into other bands, and now I'm on a J-rock honeymoon, where I end up losing myself in some song or album every week. MERRY are my new love, cali≠gari grow on me with every minute, hide, sukekiyo, LIPHLICH, Pura, Daisuke's bands & MUCC (see "MERRY are my new love", hahah, it was inevitable)... Outside of v-kei I'm hooked on Jun Togawa, Shiina Ringo and Urbangarde. I know I'm just in the beginning of this journey, and I'm excited for what I may discover.

    Other plausibly relevant points:
    Anything that's 20th-century, Japanese and counterculture-ish is a possible interest, though I don't know 1/10 as much as I wish I did.  I dropped out of my Math major in uni and now I'm hoping to enroll into a Japanese studies program next year. I am the kind of person who complains about the existence of ratings and reviews and indulges in them anyway   I'm not the best soul round, but I'm trying.

    sing it out to the gods, queen ;w;

    Even though I don't do it often, I love listening to MERRY live. Especially when they decide to do acoustic stuff. Gara is really good at showing emotion when he sings these kinds of songs, and it just makes one feel all sorts of things inside. The first time I even watched this clip, I got chills. Shit like this still makes me wonder how the fuck this band is so underrated....
