haha, nah I agree. When people are wasted, there's not much intelligent conversations to be had... or maybe some unique philosophical talks ..? well that's besides the point, but more importantly when I go drinking with people, I don't actually aim for getting drunk. That's not the end goal for the evening, I go out to meet people and talk with them. drunkness just sometimes happens depending on the company.

I've also lived in a commune where no one drank any alcohol and we had the greatest parties there too, so I definitely don't think you can't have fun without alcohol. But variety is good. sometimes drinking with people can be more fun.

Altho lately, I've liked dancing more and more and I'm a piss poor dancer if I'm drunk. I hate it. I can only do that stuff when more or less sober.
