I need to share this band since it seems most of my friends into J-indie are uninformed of them.

jan and naomi are a post-rock/folk duo with soothing vocals and may calm you down. Totally recommended!

I don't really listen to J-indie, but when I do, it's usually out of random.

薬師るり (Ruri Yakushi) - sings anime ops and shit. Discovered her thru a hentai I watched a while back:

antihoney - Probably the first j-indie group I came across when my sister showed me a creepy Youtube video many years ago. I remember being enthralled by the creepy music, contrasted by the female lead's innocently timid vocals, giving the song an overall eerie, but sweet atmosphere; the horror movie-esque fanvideo didn't quite help either. Nonetheless, I decided to check out more stuff from the band and I eventually came to the realization that the songs were actually being sung in English, and I could understand some words without even looking at the lyrics (which is rare!). Unfortunately, it seems that antihoney were stuck in underground hell as they haven't released more than just 1 album since 2009; however, they are still distributing songs on their website as of 2015.

borderless - a two-man vocal group that was active during the early 2000s. These bears were pretty popular in the gay indies scene as their music had appeared in some gay visual novels and were under the now-defunct "minority" label Dandoo Records. They broke up in 2005, and one of the vocalists, Takashi, went solo, but from what I've been able to find, the last thing he announced was back in 2011. Assuming that the guy's now in his late 40s-50s, I'm pretty sure he's retired by now.

チャマタソ。 (chamataso.) - Another gay artist that I discovered recently while scouring thru Twitter. Debuting as 南浩平 (KOH-HEY Minami) a.k.a. сн∀ма in 2012, chamataso is a young solo vocalist who embraces his "Japanese gay idolist" persona and takes his popstar prowess to another level as he ascends through club dance, rap, and wacky melodies. With dance hits intertwined with his cartoonish vocals, chama's music should be a blast at the club~🌟

*He recently released his latest album called "ごはんがおいしいナァ!" just a few weeks ago~ :3333

Recently discovered Vivid Undress  while browsing JPS. Knowing how I'm such a sucker for female vocalists, it was a instant love for me. They also remind me heavily of SFP at times.

Some years ago, I used to go on Sparkplugged and Jrockexplosion and discover a nauseating amount of bands I liked, now that seldom happens anymore, not to mention I lost interest in many of the bands I used to enjoy. I can't tell if I've become more selective after the initial overindulgent excitement of discovering something new or it's the scene failing to produce any refreshing sounds. It's probably a bit of both. I haven't checked out a lot of new bands lately and I hope for that to change.

I guess I should share some recent-ish discoveries to keep up with the theme of the topic. This new track by Yorunitokeru heavily reminds me of the unknown forecast's awesome second mini (they have since gone downhill for me). I really dig the plaintive melody and hauntingly pained vocals and of course the song wouldn't be complete without some visceral screaming to dispel all the pent-up tension.

Spoiler

phyxmoment are a shoegazey indie rock band. They don't do anything too extraordinary or interesting & the vocals need work, but it's pleasant enough for what it is. They make me miss sugardrop (what are they doing these days...).

Spoiler

Also what feels like Kankaku Piero's millionth video is for a pretty solid rock tune.

Spoiler

That Emerald track that was posted was super cute, I need to check them out. Also antihoney, they sound a lot like a female version of Danish one-man-band Sleep Party People.

Someday's Gone is such a nice, underrated band (and freaking IMPOSSIBLE to find stuff online)...

EDIT: Just found out that their only album is on Spotify, check it out! it's GLORIOUS!

Koyomi from Re:ply also has some sick tunes:

Another old but gold little favorite of mine:

Their only album is amazing!

if you still haven't checked these guys out from the june recs do yourself a favor and listen to them now! i haven't heard such good j-indie in years and i'm honestly excited for these guys. they're bringing the j-indie roots back!

for those who like some outrageously weird but good stuff, check these guys out. they're experimental and bleep bloopy with some fuzzy noises and strange-to-playful pianos. as far as i know, they self-produce all their music and upload them on their webpage only, so really underground stuff! a lot of their style and aesthetics come from experimental, lo-fi films and all those old 80s melancholic feels.

my favorite of theirs so far. it's less weird and more melancholic capturing the very essence of youth in those lonely and bleak summer days.

HASAMI Group somehow vaguely reminds me of Shinsei Kamattechan back before they got all streamlined and sterilized, just with the noise pop toned down and the lo-fi pumped the fuck up. Is the hypnagogic pop wave finally hitting Japan too?

well, after trying to look for more info on HASAMI Group i found more noise/lo-fi goodness!

LOWPOP LTD. are more alternative rock but i love this slower-paced song of theirs. don't think i need to say it, but expect some lo-fi production.

this screamo-like demo of theirs is pretty neat too.

these guys are like downtempo noise rock and sound really good. this might be for you @CAT5?

Looked into the band été a bit recently because Fuse from yorunitokeru wrote a comment for their latest single. Their singer's voice is adorable, but "mourn" is the only song of theirs that really sticks out to me so far.

I've kind of got my eye on them though. I'm curious to see what they sound like in a year or two.

I'm not sure if anyone has linked to iPod of Mine's channel yet, so here it is:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvPREVXf0QDjVIZDhmT0TtA

Twitter: https://twitter.com/iPod_of_Mine

He or she curates huge lists of indie bands & other nippon tunes, so check that out.

Here's a really underrated artist w/ decent production value. More on the electronic/poppy side.

I was off in the mountains over the past weekend so I couldn't put together a list, but tomorrow I'll have 20 artists to spam on here.
