seikun 317 Posted February 20, 2014 And I recently came across this band (Yes, they have a long-ass number in their name). They have no band photo on their homepage, but the music gives me a strong oldschool vk vibe. I am addicted to the song. I want it!!!!!
Wonrei 108 Posted February 20, 2014 Well, when I think of these bands inspired by old school vk they do get some things right, but they really forget about the production, mixing all this kind of "side" stuff. Grieva could really benefit from the shit tier cassette tape sound many old school bands had.
Champ213 1858 Posted February 20, 2014 I am addicted to the song. I want it!!!!! You can download the full version here, it's free! Please try to touch the visual music scene in Japan at the forefront! Thanks for the link. I tried to download the song, but I couldn't u.u Perhaps it is necessary to register in order to be able to download... From my faraway location, it seems to me that Visual Kei bands inspired by old school Visual Kei are slowly rising in number... Those of you who either live or regularly travel to Japan may know better.
seikun 317 Posted March 2, 2014 Has anybody been able to download スカーレット-581486956803- 's song from cdbaby? I just can't download it. u.u There a free button and when I click on it it opens another window, but it contains no free access to download the song for free... Keiyuu 745 Posted March 2, 2014 You need a cdbaby account, but I just registered one within a minute. That shouldn't be a problem.
Champ213 1858 Posted March 2, 2014 Yeah, it only takes about 2 minutes to register an account, and it's free. I could upload the song, but I guess it would be better if you get it from there, I assume they get download statistics and see how many people downloaded their stuff. And you can get their other release really cheap there too.
seikun 317 Posted March 2, 2014 You need a cdbaby account, but I just registered one within a minute. That shouldn't be a problem. I was hesitant but I already registered and downloaded the song. I like it, although I wish it was longer. Although the guitars are repetitive throughout the entire song I like them. Are their other songs also old school Visual Kei? Ikna 1225 Posted March 10, 2014 Late reply, sry.I have checked out Deep Rave a bit and I think I have even downloaded their first self titled release (it's somewhere on my harddrive). Really liked the Luna Sea vibe too. And it seems the new self titled Mini will be in the same direction.I listen to AvelCain a bit and they are oldschool friendly, but I have a hard time getting used to Karma's growls. His voice in general is an acquired taste. That Scarlet group sounds very interesting. always thought some doujin bands already sounded very similiar to the more fast paced old vk bands. So it was just a matter of time one would appear that really has obvious old school visual influences.I also listen to GAUZES, Bugscream and La'veil Mizeria, but they are all in essence "homage" bands who really try to sound like the groups from the 90s. I recently discovered Crimson Shiva for myself. Although they are not really old school they seem to be influenced by it. For me they, along with DEZERT and maybe AvelCain, remind me of the early 00s VK scene. (around 2001-2005, I guess)

You are right, I just listened to the samples from the new mini-album for the first time: They are actually a lot more Luna-Sea-ish than the previous mini-album (I posted this here a while ago.) Naoto's voice is a bit deeper, but when he hits the high notes he totally sounds like Ryuichi too! In the video at 1:12 min, when he sings "zutto" - that's an A++ Ryuichi! seikun 317 Posted March 11, 2014 So it could be infered there is a small old school Visual Kei-inspired trend going on?
lichtlune 915 Posted March 15, 2014 I dislike newer visual kei for a lot of the same reasons i dislike newer anime and many other newer things. Its the emphasis on production and commercialism over artistic expression. When something has been tampered with too much in the studio it loses that magical personal touch in my opinion. I understand music is a business but its also an art form. I feel if visual kei could broaden its demographic some and took more advantage of the opportunities the internet can offers It would see more success. like making CD sales more accessible to non-Japanese fans, Testing the waters with Digital Releases and Crowd funding, etc. I feel crowd funding is the future. Older visual kei might not have been as polished and the production might not be up to par but i feel it was more genuine in sound and overall style. The themes and aesthetics were also more radical and extreme or at least it felt that way to me. Bands today just feel too casual for my taste.
Peace Heavy mk II 7200 Posted March 18, 2014 Crowd funding like tumblr famous people who pray/prey on creeps to buy them shit off of their amazon wishlist?
lichtlune 915 Posted March 18, 2014 Crowd funding like tumblr famous people who pray/prey on creeps to buy them shit off of their amazon wishlist? Its more like funding for a tour/album or something like that. Its better than conditional disbandments. Or being constrained to the pressure of a major label. Biopanda 2675 Posted March 18, 2014 Japan is very closed to that sort of thing though. Things like kickstarter are just now starting to finally make a bit of headway over there, but even then it isn't much.

Things like kickstarter are just now starting to finally make a bit of headway over there, but even then it isn't much. Yeah well I've already seen a few bands try it with some success. I don't think its the "now" but more the future like i said. Japan will eventually give in. Its also a good way to know where a band is financially and i think people are more willing to give when they know a specific set target amount of money needed to fund a project. I don't think a band should be entirely dependent on this method but rather use it to fund big releases and tours and the like.
RickGazerock 1 Posted April 5, 2014 There is one thing that i only see visual kei fans complaining about, that all the bands sound the same, if people start to think that visual kei is a music genre and like it the way it is, all this kind of comments would stop. I never saw a grindcore fan(for example) in a discussion saying that all the bands sound the same, they actually just like it!

With vk you just have to find what you like and not give a fuck. oh yeah guys grieva is on the modern team.
seikun 317 Posted April 28, 2014 Technically speaking, most of today's bands sound better than old school Visual Kei bands. Kind of they play a bit better than some old bands. But on the other hand, most bands today make boring music to me. By boring I mean many bands make that weird electronic pop music (to call it something), the so-called Neo-Visual Kei. Other bands, the one that make aggressive dark music usually sound monotone. It is the same boring note throughout the whole song. I also love theater onstage but most bands don't do that today. I miss the insanity of old school Visual Kei music. But there are bands like GRIEVA who have revived that insanity. Unfortunately bands like GRIEVA are the least today. Bear 1817 Posted April 28, 2014 I never saw a grindcore fan(for example) in a discussion saying that all the bands sound the same, they actually just like it! That's because they don't all sound the same. Not even close. Take this , this, this and this and compare them to eachother. They don't really sound the same at all. seikun 317 Posted May 21, 2014 I'm afraid Neo Visual Kei will be remembered as the most tasteless era/side of Visual Kei... I might be wrong though.
