My girlfriend got herself a dog yesterday, a mix of doberman and labrador. She's got a lot of energy, but she's such a kind beauty (so far). She finally found some peace too, so she's been quiet for a period of time now. Yara is her name, a name that should be familiar to a lot of you who watches TV-series.

As usual, the rules are pretty simple: you can list what releases you thought were the best, and explain why in a few sentences. You can even pick just 1 album if that's all you've got, and keep it to a maximum of 5 items. Feel free to add or remove any albums later if you feel like your taste has changed, etc. Oh, and try to include a sample or two so that others could peep those sweet tunes more easily!

LINK to songs you think tells us a bit about the band/album, don't embed them. We don't need a million youtube videos.

Anyway, the more people the merrier. So please join us!

I have more than 5 great releases this month so I'll come back with my choices later. It's a hard pick.

Czarface already have two of the best hip hop albums in recent time to their name and based on this track they'll soon have three of the best. That sounds so god damned good!

This song is so bad I just can't hate it. It's so god daned awful in so many ways, but the "synth break" is superb. Silly, stupid, dumb as fuck and godfckingawful. So bad it's good. The rest of the song is very standard, though, but those parts of the song just makes it hilarious.

agree about Ori & The Blind Forest. I've played it quite a bit and liked it a lot. Beautiful, haunting atmosphere that it's impossible to fight. If you're not drawn into the world you're probably quite sick and should rather be at a mental hospital.

Wait a minute. Are you saying that X Japan couldn't start VK because no-one sounds like them? Now I don't know nor give a fuck, but saying a band didn't start something because no-one sounds like them are dumb as fuck. If that's what you're doing.

Anyway, there's a lot of (speed/thrash/power) metal bands that took after (early) X Japan in the late 80's and early 90's both music- and image-wise. This is a known fact.

What are the ex-members of Kagrra doing these days? I wish the remaining members would form a band together with some of the spirit of Kagrra. Not a carbon-copy of course, but something along the lines of mid-era Kagrra.

I'm not sure what's more disturbing, out of nowhere starting to masturbate in someone else's living room, or to just let it happen, turn around and fucking fart. Jesus. I wish that story was real.

If you had heard a song like Kakusei Heroism without knowing Bou had left and Takuya had replaced him, you would NEVER have guessed it was a different guitarist. You may not like the song itself, but no way would you have said "oh shit, they must have gotten a new guitarist because this sounds so different from before". You wouldn't have heard a god damn difference at all.

The difference between Shikisai Moment and Magnya Carta is a million times bigger than the difference between Magnya Carta and Gokutama Rock Cafe. Music-wise Gokutama Rock Cafe is nothing but a Magnya Carta v2.0, and you can hear that the majority of the songs are written by the same guys who wrote the majority of Magnya Carta. It's weaker, sure, but it sounds more or less the same.

I'm very surprised to see Fuyu no Castanet on the list to be honest. It's a bit different than your typical Merry song, but i always thought it was a very Merry-esque sounding song and it gives me a retro vibe too. Gotta admit I'm a huge fan of the song as well. I think it's fantastic.

Please check imdb for more info:

    - Soshite chichi ni naru (2013, drama): Awesome, beautiful film.

    - Tokyo Pop (1988, comedy): Underrated and very funny [Includes a brief appearance of all the X-Japan members], nice to see Tokyo in the 80s.

    - Tokyo Sonata (2008, drama): good film.

    - Tokyo! (2008, drama, surreal): I don't know exactly what to say about this movie except that it has 3 different stories which are made by 3 different directors, the first one is ok, the second is too crazy for me, the third one is my favorite which is a story about a hikkikomori.

    - Kids Return (1996, drama): awesome soundtrack, Kitano and Hisaishi, nice story too; I found out about this movie because Baru (ex.DuelJewel) drummer used to do a drum solo during DuelJewel gigs in 2003 with a track which was the theme song from this film.

    - A scene at the sea (1991, drama): slow-paced, beautiful silent movie.

    - Kikujiro no natsu (1999, drama): beautiful hisaishi soundtrack.

    - Ugetsu monogatari (1953, drama): Japan in the 16th century, very good film.

    - Suna no onna (1964, drama): slow-paced but unique.

    - Life of Oharu (1952, drama): tragic, very good.

    - Yotsuya Kaidan (1959, classic horror tale): good.

Yotsuya Kaidan and Ugetsu Monogatari reminds me of Isshi from Kagrra, I think it would be the kind of movies he would enjoy because both of them are classic horror tales [ps. Isshi used to write and read classic japanese ghost stories, it was also an inspiration for some kagrra' songs].

Jidaigeki are Japanese period dramas usually set to the Japanese Edo period, but you'll also find films set to both Heian and Meji periods too. It's films about samurai, farmers, craftsmen, and merchants of their time, but the samurai setting is the most common one and the one most people are familiar with. Samurai films, commonly called chambara, is an own subgenre of jidaigeki which includes films such as Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Harakiri, Sanjuro, The Hidden Fortress and so on. But many of my favourite films are some of the "lesser known" ones like The Sword of Doom, Samurai Assassin, Samurai Rebellion, Lone Wolf and Cub, Lady Snowblood and so on. Both films such as The Lone Wolf and Cub series and Lady Snowblood belongs to the exploitation-side of chambara. More blood, violence and stuff. Incredible films. Anyway, I'm a huge fan of jidaigeki and chambara films in general.

Why don't you believe this? My friends all seem to think it is a great film, so I don't see why it shouldn't be to be honest. They all have similar tastes to me and I actually trust them when it comes to films. We're the kind of people who don't give a fuck about IMDBRotten TomatoesMetacritic scores or reviews, we watch films and make up our own opinions on them and recommend each other films.

Frede Alvarez, the director, also made the very impressive remake/reboot of Evil Dead, which sure gives me much higher hopes for this film. Been very keen to see this for ages now (since Alvarex first started talking about it).

But that doesn't mean it's not a horror film. Not all horror films are there to scare the living shit out of you. Different films and different sub-genres and blendings serve a different purpose.

Films like Captain Kronos – Vampire Hunter, Alien, Evil Dead II, Dracula, Mr. Vampire, The Hound of the Baskervilles, Frankenweenie, Martyrs, Eden Lake are all horror films but they serve a different purpose (in 2016 at least), just to take a few examples.

But at the end of the day the line between horror and thrillers are very blurry and it can be really hard to tell the difference here and there.
