This album is something else for sure. Oh dear, oh dear.

Diverse as fuck, but always keeping a red thread throughout each song which keeps ut together.

Mirai singing in Japanese is so fucking cool.

The Jethro Tull influence is quite obvius with the flute, but it sounds immense. You also hear influences from pretty much all the other Sighthings albums.

Heresy (Part 1: Oblivium) is just stunning. Gorgeous track. The same type of "different" as Somniphobia, The Tranquilizer Song and Nietzschean Conspiracy. Part II and III are also amazing, and together they form something completely unique. Just mindblowing.

Biggest difference from Graveward is that You's guitar playing is more integrated into the sound. The tracks are suited a lot better to his style. What a guitarist by the way. Does some truly incredible stuff during the album.

Some ingenius stuff going on with the vocals too. Is that throat singing on several of the tracks?  Sound so good.

Will write more later when it's gotten more time to sink in. Album of the year tho. Close to perfection and probably one of their best.

Been spinning this a few times over the weekend and I must admit I am very disappointed. I find it rather mediocre, and it just lacks that melodic side that's always made Sargeist so good. This sounds more like Behexen, than Sargeist IMO. Title track is probably my favourite as it sounds a lot like classic Sargeist. Melodic and catchy, yet cold and grim.

    On another note:

New Kriegsmaschine album just dropped. Not heard a single word about this until just now. It sounds like Kriegsmaschine alright, and is clearly a continuation of their previous album, Enemy of Man. Sounds good, and even better than Enemy of Man. Like I said when Mgla released Exercises in Futility, Darkside's drumming just gets better and better with every single release, and I wonder if this is the best drum performance on a black metal ever? Hell, fuck that. Best drum performance on an extreme metal album ever? Darkside just takes things to a whole new level of creativity, but without taking anything from the rest of the music. Truly impressive!

Features M. and Darkside of Mgla btw. However, don't expect anything like Mgla. This is a very different band.

Edit: the more I listen the more do I realize that the drum work is just out of this world. Holy crap! Mindblowing!

Mirai might be a weirdo (he's weird as fuck tbh), but listening to or reading interviews with him is a real pleasure. Or just watching or reading him interview other bands, which he does a lot as he's a music journalist as well. A very interesting man.

I'd love to see an Amoeba What's In My Bag episode with Mirai, and the rest of the band. Think that could be interesting.

    Thanks, about 80% custom.
I wanted to make my own mask but the materials didn't fit the budget. So I started with this latex mask, it was pretty deformed and had a shit paint job.

So I stuffed and melted it, fixed it to a foam head, then hand painted with watercolor and copic mix, some acrylic.
Aside from the mask I had a plain black sheet, and then bought white skeleton gloves. Painted those red and gold with fabric paints, tattered the robe and hand laid at least 40 feathers and lace strings with a net backing. Same for the neck feathers I cut by hand and laid all of them. Also cut wig thatches and laid the hair although you can't see it hardly in any of the pictures. I also sculpted the horns, painted them etc.
Finished project when it was fresh: (cause it's 4 years old now and kinda faded...and I ran into trees since then lol.)
It was my first time trying to put something together from a drawing on a 100$ budget so I am happy with it. Only downside is the head weighs around 15lbs and has to be balanced pretty precariously, so your neck is fucked after a couple hours.

It may come from the fact that I have always written album reviews for myself so that's why I tend to keep my opinion to myself as well X)

Been re-listening to some Thy Darkened Shade today, they truly are in a realm of their own. Their last full-length was released 4 years ago already, and last year they only had 2 split appearances (great tracks nonetheless) so I really really hope some longer new material is being prepared.

Everything they released so far is pure gold, but their 2nd (latest) album "Liber Lvcifer I: Khem Sedjet" is just A++ stuff. Kickass occult, complex and melodic BM.

Some very good and interesting answers during this interview. While I like Graveward very much, it's interesting to hear why he thinks as he does about the album.

Also, some of the stuff said about the new album sounds so promising!

You need to pay more attention my posts, brah, cuz Obliteration is a band I've talked a lot about on here. Not a big fan of their debut album which is a fairly standard and mediocre release, but Nekropsalms is really good and Black Death Horizon is just amazing. That production job is just too fucking sweet.

I highly recommend fellow Norwegian death metallers Reptilian if you like the sound of Obliteration. Their one and only album Perennial Void Traverse is a complete masterpiece. They sound A LOT like Obliteration, but I feel like they're a bit more chaotic at times. Just as good as Obliteration if you ask me. Fantastic album!

Yes! Fantastic film, and by far the best clown horror I've seen miles. Miles and miles and miles ahead of the new It. Much cooler than the original It too. So fucking creepy.

Nah. First you go out and buy the best, most expensive and most exclusive peanut butter you can find. Then you take a huge spoon, dig into the glass and just eat it straight off the spoon to get a feeling of what it's like.  Then you make yourself a delicious peanut butter and jelly sandwich and just enjoy life for a moment. It's gotta be strawberry jelly. The real, natural stuff made of 98% strawberries with just a bit of added sugar. Preferable homemade, but you can get some good stuff in some stores too. Expensive as fuck tho, but worth it. Be sure to stay away from the awful, artificial shit you get in most stores with 60% strawberries and a lot of crap you don't need.

They've said that the first half is rather straight-forward, while the second half is out there. I know MZ have said that one track is the most controversial song by a black metal band in a long time. I can see Famine going full black metal rap on it. Full on white traah, black metal rap. Hah

Lol, new Behemoth is such a damp squib, and I put the blame on Nergal.
This basically sums up what I think of the album. But for me though, the singles that dropped before the release (except for Bartzabel, which is my favorite from ILYAYD) were basically warning us not to expect more than that. I had hoped that they would be the weakest from the album, but actually they are in the image of what ILYAYD has to offer (and vice versa).

i thought i was gonna off myself but i found this thread and also found my will to live...the will to watch satsuki hit rock bottom over n over again

also tbh i think people overlook how mediocre RES were in the greater scheme of things, especially considering they were a fkin FREE WILL band but they best they managed was shibuya quattro. I think yukari/whoever at free will really tried to push them hard, but as far as i see it, they were unlikeable outside of their core fanbase. Their music had some good moments, but honestly most of it was sloppy musicianship over some good melodies--satsuki isnt even a good singer, just has a pretty voice. When they were good, they were awesome but when they flopped it was awful lmfao. comparing them to kagerou, DEG, merry etc, RES kind of are a joke.

That said, I think the band were just an awful fit with poor management. They were more or less assembled by yukari to do his thing, but once they had to make their own image and sound, I dont think any of them (free will mgmt included) really had a good sense of taste or vision. Its not to say they werent talented, considering the amazing work mika and takumi are doing now (tbh the gag is that those are the only talented members they had), but it certainly didn't come across in their music all that often.

This is coming from someone who used to LOVE RES. I wonder how much satsuki flopping has coloured my thoughts on their music hahaha

That's some very good choices, Jig. Especially Deathhammer. More of the same, but these guys truly know how to write riffs. Every single album is just one big, fat riff-o-rama without a single bad riff. Amazing!

I have huge gaps in my Sigh knowledge so I'm just getting back into them now... man, what a quality act! Previously I was only familiar with their first few albums, but everything else I've listened to so far ranges from 'pretty good' to 'amazing' so hell yeahh! Just spinned Graveward yesterday for the first time too, and while it took me a while to get used to the overall production/sound the whole thing is brilliant. I love the emphasis on all the quirky keyboards, samples and atmospherics while also being totally metal.

I still have some albums I have to catch up on (mainly the last few) but my love is 100% reignited!  Also I couldn't find anywhere to listen to the new track from the upcoming album as YT keeps telling me it's not available for some reason - does anyone have a link where I can peep it perhaps?
