Fingers crossed for quality, but not gonna hold my breath. I think they've got it in em to knock a new release out of the park, at least I want to believe it, but we'll find out soon enough.

These guys grew on me really fast. Their guitarist is a total shredder and the vocalist has some great pipes!!

I loved Alice Nine's first releases - 祇園盛者の鐘が鳴る and 華想夢想紙 were big faves of mine back in the day, but I remember almost nothing after that (except that song that uses the Lufia 2 battle them as the chorus melody...). Saw a picture of them in a magazine recently and had to double take - full on boy band realness now, eh? Not sure if I can actively think of any current bands I can't stand, but the whole oshare-kei phase in general was just really...not for me.

I find most western djent kind of played out except for maybe Architects and Northlane (if one could wholly slap em in that genre, I guess), but this is fuckin' FANTASTIC!! Feel like I'm gonna be obsessed with this for a little while.

I like the sound of this sample more than anything else they've put out so far, though perhaps because it sounds more immediately like Issei-era DIMLIM to me (which still isn't as good as current DIMLIM, but I dig nonetheless...) Songwriting seems a bit more cohesive and not as much ALLTREBLECLICKYCLACKY production so it feels like a step in the right direction. Look is...something? On first look I was really taken by Mio and Uta's looks, but the more time I spend looking at it...hmmm...something is missing?

I really, really like this. Kinda rides the line of the shreddy metalcore stuff and modern VK in a way that isn't really breaking any molds, but sounds polished and well-done. Excited for the single! Also still absolutely crazy about their aesthetic, especially in the context of the video.

anyone got general recommendations for cool/off-the-wall stuff to do in Tokyo?
I'm putting together an itinerary right now, but it's my first time and I'm trying to find stuff that my wife and I can enjoy together (because really it's all eating and exploration now, haha)

in case you like to play games and you smoke, i suggest game centers in akihabara, you can arcade games AND smoke at the same time there, 100% fun
another obvious suggestion is disneyland~ since youre going with your wife it could become a very romantic experience for you! as far as i know japanese couples use it as a date destination a lot. but prepare to spend all of your money on mickey ears and stuff, the japanese walk there all covered in that disney crap so you wont be able to resist

Yeah - they're definitely something special (even by definition alone) within VK. Can't really think of anyone else that has done their sound specifically, even the other electro/goth leaning acts approach it from a different angle. Would love to see them inject some of that initial goodness into some new tracks, but at the very least I'm glad Kaya seems to be enjoying a relatively successful career (from what I can tell?)

stupid question, but I don't speak Japanese and translate doesn't really help me understand this...
what does 後日解禁バンド mean? they're listed as an act on a live I'm attending and I thought it was an act I was unfamiliar with, but now I'm not sure...

I think "後日解禁バンド " means that more info will be revealed about the band(s) playing at that live at a later date, i.e. other band(s) participating that haven't been listed/announced. Not sure about the band, Aster, though 😕

when I purchased tickets I was like "hmm, maybe some session or something" but then I googled now and realized it listed on a lot of lives, so your answer makes sense and I feel like a dummy. curious who could still be announced then...

regarding Aster, there is a band called "GLEN" that appears to have formed recently with a single being released called "Aster" in May? they show their first live is scheduled for 5/27, though, so not sure if there's any relation.

The Japanese language is a tough one to crack.
Funny enough, when I first saw the name, "Aster", I immediately thought of the band (Glen), and realized that Aster is only the name of their single, not their actual band name, lol. But yeah, I don't think there's any relation unless there's some hidden joke going on? Not that it would be uncommon in VK, lol.

Still on the fence about these guys. Chain of Tragedy was just okay and I haven't gotten all the way through Folklore yet, but the production on all of them has seemed less than stellar to me. The songwriting just feels a bit bland when put alongside their "peers." The production doesn't help them at all, either - makes everything sound flat and empty to me.

@nomemorial Oh, that's awesome! That taiban (mixed bands) live sounds like it'll be a blast with that lineup! Best advice is to not be afraid to have fun and join in on the furitsuke (a choreographed dance usually created by the band for a particular song) with the fans. Hope you have lots of fun! Would love to hear how it went when you return ^^

I've been saving as much as I can for almost a year now and it's STILL feeling like not enough (and my wife and I are picking up and moving across the country a week after we get back home so uh, that'll be interesting)
I'm hoping to write up a quick live report when I get the chance! I really enjoy a lot of the bands on the lineup so it was perfect timing for me.
