Some people seem to believe that piracy is (only) a service problem - Masa's first point gives me this impression too. The implication is that if you make music as accessible as possible, piracy is going to magically disappear. Sadly this is true only in the limiting case where the music in question is rare to the extent that it hasn't surfaced on the internet. If anything, vk is among the least affected by piracy (in relative terms) as opposed to games, movies, pop music, whatever., because the obscure live-limited releases and distro's are impossible to pirate if they don't even exist on the network to begin with.  Yet it hurts them more because in absolute terms as they have a far smaller slice of the consumers' pie.
 
For stuff that people can buy from shops or online, releases are only "immune" to piracy for the first 24-48 hours or so. The artists know this as well; that's why fans are always being bugged to "pre-order" upcoming releases. The reality is that more and more people today who actually BUY music do so not because they want to listen to the music, but as a symbolic act of pledging their support. It's like making a "donation" to affirm that you like what the artists are doing. Why else would I want to spend money on a CD and wait for it to arrive, when I can simply click on a link to get it for free instantly? Most of my friends who buy CDs (not many do anymore, admittedly) don't even open their CDs when they arrive at their house, cuz they've pirated the digital files long ago. The industry realizes this as well, so they have stuff like in-store events and promotional lucky-draws to encourage purchase.
 
Anyway, I should say that I don't want to endorse piracy. I do, however, wish that bands like NB would stop whining and direct their effort to formulating a marketing model to sell their stuff in our current age where music doesn't sell the same way it had used to (something for people to buy, take home, and listen). If there's only one thing AKB48 or any of their countless analogs can be praised for, it's being incredibly successful at this.

Lately I've read Decameron, the Prose Edda, Presocratic philosophy, a Yeats biography, some criticism from Baudelaire, parts of Ulysses and parts of the bible.
 
I am currently reading Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis, who wrote Narnia. It is an introduction to Christianity which was adapted from some radio talks he made during WWII. I thought it would just be for Anglicans, but he states it is for all Christians.
 
After that I plan on reading The Outline of Sanity by Chesterton, which outlines the political philosophy known as Distributism. Other vague interests include the Mahabharata and a book on the influences of Greek culture on Wagner which I have ordered and should come in January. I should probably return to Homer, Virgil and Ovid. My initial plan was to develop an understanding of classical philosophy, which would lead to an understanding of Christian philosophy and ultimately later philosophers as well, but I might just stick with Plato, Aristotle, Augustine and Aquinas and start attending church, together with my reading of the bible and Lewis/Chesterton. My understanding of political philosophy could rest on Distributism. I see no need to concern myself with Marx or Burke. And last but not least I would like to read Tacitus and maybe some Irish history.

i'm sad to see that it has come to this.
 
not gonna take sides since I hardly know the details of the drama, but no matter how you look at it this is a blow for people who actually care about the 'no 1 curr' bands, or random ad-hoc sessions, or what live-limited cd is being distributed in sendai next weekend. whether the news is of quality is for the audience to judge; however without an appreciable volume of news filtering in there's nothing left to know about, much less to judge. and regardless if you like trombe, or however questionable his motives may be, it can't be denied that he's been a great service to not just you and me but the international vk community since it should be patently obvious that every self-professed 'vk news source' out there is basically a c+p of what's posted in MH.

idk electro effects is kinda what they do though, isn't it? like I think they've been pretty consistent with that so if you don't like the sound of it idk why you're even commenting on vivarush lol

This feels really weird cos they seem like a totally diff band without Yoh, but I guess i'll follow cos i'm a huge fan of Jekyll. I'm fine with autotune but I'd rather hear Jekyll's real voice cos he has really nice vocals.
