  1. I wish these guys would consistently release stuff on the level of their PV songs - all of them have been amazing so far, but their other songs (despite not being bad) just don't do it for me.

  2. Okay, I finally listened to this.

First off, be aware that there appears to be two track lists out there, one of which has the titles practically in reverse order. So watch out for that.

Now The Black Swan is clearly Jin just picking up the mess that NEGA left behind, so it's obvious that he had a Ruki-like iron grip on which direction the band's sound was going in. And that's... not necessarily a good thing. NEGA wasn't that great. There were signs of promise here and there, but they were few and far between. The same applies to The Black Swan.

NEGA was notorious for having awful production; listening to a NEGA song was like someone shoving my head into a pile of pots and pans, then clanging on them with a hammer. It's the opposite here. There's almost too much bass at some points. You don't have to be a major band to have good production, so I don't know what Jin's problem is.

The songs come across as tons of ideas just mashed together with no regard for how they fit (and yes, the trademark "NEGA SWOOSH" makes an appearance). The band is promising, but that doesn't matter if they don't know how to compose a song that makes sense. My main problem, though, is the same one I had with NEGA:

    Jin

This dude can NOT sing at all. I mean, we all know that VK vocalists are almost always lacking in terms of technique because they just never bother to learn to sing. But with Jin it's not just hitting wrong notes or having no breath control; he lacks creativity when it comes to melody and phrasing. When Jin isn't aimlessly mumbling and whispering his way thru a verse, he sings a melody that he's probably used several times before. It makes everything he's ever done just sort of blend together.

But despite all that, I think Jin is super sincere about what he's doing. He just... doesn't really know how to do it. He needs guidance.

You pretty much nailed everything that I think about this band. And somehow this last point is probably what makes me come back to them in the hope that Jin polishes his skills and adds some actual professionalism to the passion.

    (Also, yay for Bloodborne avatar!)

  3. You have an amazing voice for Power Metal there, and I had hoped that that was what the rest of the track followed with as it began to build up towards something rather epic. But then the screams began and I find them to be very non-fitting and not in line with your clean voice, if I may be entirely honest. The combination just sounds very odd to me and the traversion from Power Metal into metalcore is rather sudden and... weird. As if the two pieces don't belong together.

Have you ever covered Power Metal? I'd love to hear you sing some Stratovarius.

Glad you liked my singing, thanks a lot!

Yeah, fair enough, those are definitely some rather sudden changes in the song. Originally, our musical direction was more towards more Metalcore and modern Metal, but since both of my as well as our guitarist's influences include Power Metal, the chorus got that flair unconsciously somehow :D Generally, we wanted to do a lot of genre-jumping in the songs (as I did want to bring in some J-rock feeling), but we will have to work on making it sound more natural and smooth.

As to your question: Yup, I used to sing a lot of Kamelot, but those covers are rather old unfortunately - if you still want to take a look, here you go.

Also working on a Galneryus cover with another band!

    yo those screams r sicccccckkk

    Thaaanks, glad you liked them!

  4. Hard decision for me, so I will be diplomatic and choose both. I really enjoyed their newer sound and all their releases apart from Arche, but Withering To Death remains my favourite album of them, plus I clearly prefer Kyo's old, less nasal clean vocals over how they sound nowadays (I still enjoy them now though):

  5. I really want to like THE BLACK SWAN, but for me Jin just ruins the whole thing - I don't hate the guy and I guess to some his tone may appeal, but apart from that he is just downright a bad singer who can't hold a note. I do like their music though, but well, gonna vote for the other guys, never heard them before, they sound nice!

  6. Hey, after posting that example in the Karaoke thread, I thought I could show off some of my favourite collabs since they are some of my biggest projects.

The one I posted before and the second one in here are part of a contest I took part in with my YouTube collab group RE:CHORD. The Incomplete cover actually got noticed by girugamesh's Satoshi, he even shared it on his twitter!

This one was with a group that covers anime openings, there will be more stuff with me on that channel soon :)

  7. Thanks guys!

And yeah sure, I would be willing to join. I can also take over the scripting and mixing if you want, I'd just prefer if we chose a song with a proper instrumental since working with these vocal removal songs is really a pain ;D

I also got a channel with quite a few subs, so I could promote the other singers there if they want to! Monochrome Heaven All Stars incoming :D

edit: Suggestion! How about X Japan's Kurenai? It has a decent instrumental and a good length to put every singer into spotlight! Also, since Toshi is pretty much always singing in female range, the female contestants could deal with it too if they decide to join us, whereas the males who can't hit the high notes can just sing it an octave lower, still sounds good for that song.

Also, I could (no promises though) possibly arrange an artist and animator making a cool video for us, here is an example of a nice collab which used that kind of stuff (I'm Kal in there):

Most likely not on a scale like this of course, but I simple video with names of the people singing and maybe some artwork should be fine ;)

Let me know what you think, if you are interested I could organize the thing together with Jiyun.

  8. Hey guys, I am BLAME! Thanks so much for everyone who has been voting for me, I didn't expect the last round to go like that! It was a great contest and I really enjoyed every round, there were so many good entries, thanks to all the other participants and of course to Champ for organizing the whole thing :) If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask me!

And as a side note: Winning this contest actually means a lot to me, since about five or six years ago, the second Karaoke contest on this forum was the reason why I attempted to sing and by some mircale won the contest (mainly due to most participants dropping out :D), which was probably not very deserved, but still motivated me to stick with singing. So it feels amazing to come back and win this contest again and this time without the contest ending earlier than expected!

Lastly, I really want to know who Dayu is - I recognized some voices from older contests, but damn, you have an amazing voice and your singing is really impressive!

  9. ^ You should specify the time at which the breakdown occurs on all of the videos.

Anyhow, UPLIFT SPICE are known to have some pretty rad breakdowns at times. Most recently in their song "U & I" - from 2:00 to 2:33

Wowow this band sounds great, need to check if I can find stuff of them here

On topic, just going with some of the first ones I used to love. Not really breakdowns in the sense of Metalcore though:

  10. Not the main type of music I listen to, but I do enjoy quite a few K-pop artists. What a lot of people hate about it (ridiculous visuals, pretty boys trying to be thugs, blatant melodies and so on) are the fun things about it, I enjoy it exactly because it is so ridiculous and over the top. I wouldn't necessarily say there is no talent in K-pop though, some bands have amazing singers (SHINee for example) and some groups like Big Bang do have some more creative tracks with decent songwriting. It also comes down to what you define as K-pop, since if you go more into Hip Hop, there is some high quality stuff like Epik High or Outsider.

I can understand why a lot of people hate the whole thing though ;)

  11. Thanks for listening and commenting! Hmm, the lyrics are indeed not overly personal - to me it didn't feel soulless at all when I recorded it, but that's definitely something rather subjective. I guess it might be because I have a pretty technical approach to singing? I sometimes think a bit too much about the singing itself (which is most likely due to the classical background), so I guess a rather Rock-ish approach to the vocals might help to have a better impact. Definitely appreciating the feedback, gonna try to improve that, thank you!

  12. @emmny: Thanks a lot, so glad you liked it and even more glad you enjoyed my singing! Haha, was hoping D'espa fans would drop by, they will always be my biggest inspiration for music :)

Yeah, I kinda see what you mean with that - this one is pretty straightforward, so we will try to make the songwriting more interesting for the next few songs, thanks a lot for your feedback!
