On these currently: Interzone by William S. Burroughs: An interesting mixture of early writings leading up to his wild Naked Lunch era. Begins in a clean matter-of-fact style employed in novels like Junky or Queer and gets progressively weirder by the end, foreshadowing (and even kind of bleeding through to) Naked Lunch. It's an okay collection of bits and pieces so far, just what I was expecting (tho I think I'll just continue to stick to his novels). Tender Is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald: This is my first novel from this author, so far so good. The novel chronicles the life of an American doctor who fell in love with and married one of his mental patients, living the high life with a circle of rich friends, but of course their fate and relationship gets progressively worse/complicated. I'm about 2/3 through, and expected a bit more from the story, but the writing style is nice and just about manages to hold my interest.

Just bought my tickets for the Gorgoroth/Melechesh gig that'll be held here in Budapest in March, so I felt like revisiting some of their old albums... man, this drum sound is cracking me up but I kinda love it at the same time too. So primitive and don't-give-a-fuck, hahaha...

Kill Command - Randomly decided to check out this kinda-low-budget flick, but despite its limitations it actually looked kinda neat! The CGI was especially good for such a humble budget, I was impressed. If you guys remember what I said about Spectral about a page back, this one's very familiar too: futuristic sci-fi military porn, only this time with killer robots (lovin' the machine design btw!). Nothing spectacular, but it was okay enough for me not to skip / fast-forward any parts. Worth a lazy afternoon watch.

bring it onnnnn, crazyman

Getting major King Dude vibes from that song, but pretty good!

Sorry, I don't have the time/energy for it. I might check out some stuff now and then tho, and write my opinion here ofc. But I can't guarantee I'll check out everything.

Some cool sounding stuff in here that I'll surely check out later! (Shohei Amimori, No Party for Cao Dong, THIS IS JAPAN, uyama hiroto, koh nakashima, Deep Sea Diver)

ffffffuck no. Best LUNA SEA kei band ever. tbh I thought they've already disbanded like a year ago or so, oops. maybe that was just news of some members leaving?

Currently reading Aldous Huxley's The Devils of Loudun, and it's pretty great so far. It's kind of a historical non-fiction novel dealing with demonic possession / witchery in a 17th century French town, but also has surprisingly long and in-depth passages about the workings of various faiths and philosophies of the time. I dunno if everything in here is 100% accurate but the guy sure seems to have done his research! Very interesting read.

Cool stuff! I'm not too well-versed in this era, but I occasionally whip out this excellent compilation:

Awww yeahhh, that was the good good stuff!

@LestatGlad to see the love for Shaarimoth. @VisutoxNo probs, hope you'll like it! I managed to listen to Convulsing's album, it's pretty powerful stuff. Lovin' the guitar sound and sinister melodies! And speaking of sinister melodies, I've been revisiting Chaos Invocation's small but potent discography lately... magnificent, ferocious black metal all the way! I've just checked their Facebook page too and it seems like they'll unleash a new album this year not far from now. They write "early 2017", and the album title is "Reaping Season, Bloodshed Beyond". Can't wait!

^ Nice one, thanks for the recommendation! And I see it can be snagged for free at Bandcamp too, sweet~ I'm currently listening to my first 2017 release that deserves a "daaaamn, that's fine!" from me:

I've just begun listening to Predatory Light's debut album from last year, and only one track in but HOLY SHIT If the rest is as good as this, I might have a belated 2016 favorite on my hands.

The Blackcoat's Daughter - God damn. If you love dreary, eerie, slow-burning, menacing horror (like The Witch, for example), then just watch this. Excellent atmosphere, phenomenal music and photography, and a thoroughly intriguing (if a little simple) story. I am beyond impressed. I am guessing it is best watched if you don't know anything about the story at all, so please avoid the IMDB page (also, dunno what the imdb users smoke to only give it a 5.4 tho??).

^ Thanks for the suggestion! I actually started listening to their stuff semi-chronologically last year, but didn't get too far (I think I listened to a demo and an EP?). Gonna give their other albums a spin tho, that's for sure, cuz I like the unholy occult atmosphere they're going for. And HELL YEAHHHH, new Midnight!!! Can't wait!

Finally listened to that Cultes des Ghoules album for the first time. Well... it sure was long, lol. I couldn't really get into it. It had its moments, and the atmosphere and production/sound was pretty cool too, but that wasn't enough to hold my attention for such a long time. Not gonna re-listen anytime soon. I know it's a bit different, but if we're talking "long-ass metal albums" I much much prefer Cobalt's "Slow Forever" from last year.

^ Thanks for the Nietzsche suggestion! To be honest, I only picked this up because there was a discount on it, lol (and cuz I've always wanted to read something by him). But yeah, I've read up on him a bit and it does seem to be one of his heavier works.

Yeahhhhh boi, bring dat retro synth #aesthetics!

Finished Catch-22 by Joseph Heller a couple days ago. At times it felt quite hard to read in long bursts because of its cyclical and repetitive nature but sometimes the flow really caught me. In any case, it's both an incredibly hilarious and disturbing ride showcasing the absurdity of war. I can see how it became a classic. Also recently finished The Last Werewolf by Glen Duncan, lent by a friend of mine. I'm not too big on modern werewolf/vampire lit and the like, but it was good for one occasion I guess. Very easy to read, and also surprisingly quite literary/sophisticated compared to what I expected. Not too memorable though. Currently in the process of finishing Friedrich Nietzsche's The Antichrist. Even though it's a relatively short piece, I can't take more than a couple pages at a time. Very demanding stuff that makes you think. I can't say I agree with everything in it, but he does raise some interesting points.

Just finished watching Atlanta (season 1). Very nice stuff, somewhere between comedy and drama, sometimes with suprisingly weird and thought-provoking undertones. It's pretty much a slice-of-life thing, so there isn't really an overarching grand plot to speak of, but that's one of the beauties of it (and also the varying focuses and subtle or not-so-subtle style changes in each episode). Looking forward to season 2. Highly recommended.
