  1. cheezus, that is great, anybody has this maybe? couldn't find it anywhere... :(

Ooh, I wish someone would post something by them!

I also really like this song:

Last time I checked, their stuff only seemed to be available from Tower Records and other stores that didn't ship overseas, but now it looks like their stuff is appearing on CDJapan, HMV, etc.  I'll probably add their first and second mini-album to my next order.

  2. Eine (dumme) Frage für die Deutschen:

    Kennt hier jemand Toast Hawaii?
    http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toast_Hawaii

Heute habe ich dieser kulinarischen Seltsamkeit in einer Fernsehshow begegnet.

    Anscheinend eine deutsche Erfindung? Komisch...

Isst hier jemand Toast Hawaii? Schmeckt's?

  3.

Not counting obvious ones like Jun Togawa's Mushi no Onna...

I'd also mention Erik Satie's Gymnopedie no 1, but I'm not really remembering the names of the tracks I listened to that were influenced by it

Just for good measure, we have to link to Jun Togawa's "

."  One of the most frightening songs ever.

Also, I hope you'll be able to remember any of the songs influenced by Gymnopedie. I'd love to hear some copy pasta'd riffs from Satie or even Debussy.

Here's a couple I thought of off the top of my head, Peace.

Canon in D: Misaruka - Kanon (shocking, right?)

Bach, "Air on the G String": Lily project -

    Chopin, "

    ": 네미시스 (nemesis) -

(Sorry, I know this one isn't "VK" per se, but the with the band's first vocalist here, it's VERY obvious what they were going for.)

Love this thread by the way, haha.

  4. Great news!

Nemesis has announced the 2nd part of their 3rd album, "Dream."
According to Yesasia, the release date is March 8th.

    01. 오후의 속삭임
    02. Dream
    03. 인어공주를 위한 소나타
    04. 애원
    05. 남겨지다
    06. 타타타
    07. Dream [inst.]

    Here's the title track:

and a live version of another track:

    Sounds beautiful as always.

  5. @Suzaki: Don't listen to many of those bands, but I like Aicle's "Hammerhead"!

Margot & The Nuclear So And So's - Books About Trains

    サウイフモノ (souiumono) - 道のり

of Montreal - Lecithin's Tale of a DNA Experiment that Went Horribly Awry

    Erik Satie - Gymnopédie nº2

    GRAMMATICS - Double Negative

Flight Of The Conchords - Bowie

    DIV - milky latte

    네미시스 (nemesis) - 우리는 사랑이었을까

    Koop - Come to Me

João Gilberto - Trevo de 4 folhas

Interesting list.  All bands I quite enjoy; some of them are even among my favorites, though none of the songs themselves are my "favorite" per se.  I think Nemesis wins, because that song has such nice pretty and relaxing piano.  Sounds like the soundtrack to a Miyazaki movie or something.

Though Cat, didn't you break your own rule by doing a shuffle list from your "favorites playlist"? Reporting you.

  6. Some more shoegazey and dream pop offerings!

Boy Friend (not to be confused with the k-pop group "Boyfriend")

Synth-based dream pop duo from Texas. I stumbled upon them, because the singer used to be in one of my favorite bands in high school.
    Extremely slow, hazy songs.

    Memoryhouse

Another dream pop duo, but this time from Canada.  My friend "byudie" introduced me to them. Their sound combines some indie pop tendencies (bands like Camera Obscura), particularly on their most recent release, but there's plenty of relaxing dreaminess to be had.

    DIMMDIVISION.

Mysterious band featuring members from lots of respectable "angura" bands like The God and Death Stars, deadman, Moran, the studs, etc. They combine this sound with elements of shoegaze. They say their music should give "a feeling of floating."  Their newest single (recently uploaded) is absolutely gorgeous, imo.

  7. The main improvement I can think of would be allowing multiple choices (maybe 3?) for the "best" stuff (best album, best single, etc.)

It's REALLY tough to pick just one.  Not being satisfied with my single choice has definitely affected my voting in the past, haha.

Or would that make tallying up the scores too much work?

  8. Well, here it is finally.  The live DVD to the limited edition of the Lightdentity/Re:myend! single:

Since I know how quickly their stuff gets removed from youtube, I made the video unlisted and gave it a very generic title, haha.

    Tracklist
    1. 季節 (kisetsu)

    2. メルシールー (merci lou)

    3. sharp ♯

    Enjoy!

On another note, has anyone checked out their 2nd album "5"?  What did you think of it?
I ordered the limited edition and it came in some "unique" packaging:

  9. Really glad to see Vior Gloire, 88 Kasyo Junrei, The God and Death Stars, and The Novembers pick up some wins!

Unfortunately there were too many good indie albums/mini-albums that I wanted to vote for (UNiTE, Pan-d-ra, Odotte Bakari no Kuni, DIMMDIVISION. etc), but I just couldn't choose... Plus, that deadline just snuck up on me and I forgot to vote at all, haha.

And I guess I should give Grieva a try.

  10. Something I've been thinking about for a while...

Do you think of your favorite music in terms of bands, albums, songs, or even genres?

For instance, I tend to think about my favorite music in terms of favorite bands.  Though last.fm has kind of helped me to "visualize" this, I can more or less tell you what my favorite bands are.  However, when someone asks me what my favorite albums are, I have trouble since I usually have a more holistic approach to bands.  It's usually a band's entire discography (or however much I've listened to) that helps me determine how much I like them.  Picking a favorite album (particularly when bands have many other types of releases like singles, mini-albums/EPs, etc) almost always means leaving out some favorite song featured on another release.  Only rarely does a band pack almost all of my favorite songs onto one album, so I can undoubtedly say that such and such album is a favorite of mine.

And then others have NO problem listing out tons of albums that they consider their favorites.

Other people, like my brother for instance, seem more genre-oriented.  He seems to like all kinds of metal, though I hardly ever hear him mention particular bands that he likes the best.

So how does everyone here tend to "digest" their favorite music?
By band, album, song, genre, or something else entirely? Or maybe a combination of these?
    DISCUSS!

  11. Can anyone help me to resize pictures?

On the previous version of the forum, I could resize any picture using the "thumb" option.

It would look something like this (except with normal brackets on both sides):

    {thumb=400] *PICTURE URL* [/thumb}

The "400" would make the width of the picture 400, rather than whatever larger size it was.  Extremely useful so you didn't have to manually resize pictures when you wanted to embed them in posts.

I've found the "thumb" option on this current version of the forum too, under special BBCode, but it doesn't seem to work the same way...

    Any help?
