Jesus, boi, get your falsetto under control.
  2. Crishuna, yeah! I need more from them.
  3. Does anyone else enjoy the TV shows by Australian comedian/character actor Chris Lilley? We Can Be Heroes: Finding The Australian of the Year (2005) It follows the story of five unique Australians, who have each made a large achievement and been nominated by friends and family for the Australian of the Year award. Summer Heights High (2007) It is a documentary series of high-school life experience from the viewpoints of 3 individuals: Enthusiastic and delusional "Director of Performing Arts" Mr G; private-school exchange student Ja'mie King; and disobedient, vulgar Tongan student Jonah Takalua. Angry Boys (2011) The show explores the issues faced by young males in the 21st century – their influences, their pressures, their dreams and ambitions. Lilley plays multiple characters: S.mouse, an American rapper; Jen, a manipulative Japanese mother of a skateboard star; Blake Oakfield, a champion surfer; Ruth "Gran" Sims, a guard at a juvenile detention facility; and her grandchildren, South Australian twins Daniel and Nathan Sims. Ja'mie: Private School Girl (2013, airing currently) The show follows Ja'mie King, who previously appeared in We Can Be Heroes and Summer Heights High, during her final weeks at Hillford Girls Grammar School. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKtwDjf_5gY___________________________________ I only discovered his stuff through a friend this summer, but I think he's hilarious. In his shows, presented in mockumentary style, he plays multiple characters (men and women). I've only seen the series Summer Heights High and I've started watching his newest series Ja'mie: Private School Girl, where he reprises his role as private school superbitch/popular girl Ja'Mie King for the third time. He's really committed to his different roles, so I have to give him kudos. It seems like he's upping the amount of crazy in this latest series and I'm loving it so far. Seriously, the amount of quotable/GIF-able moments in the show is off the charts. But one of the things I appreciate is that while the characters ARE ridiculous, entertaining and over-the-top, there's also something very realistic about a lot of them. We probably all had a Ja'mie King at our schools. Can't speak for all of the shows as I haven't seen them yet, but Summer Heights High and Ja'mie: Private School Girl are definitely recommended!

Thank Jesus, they could really benefit from a second guitarist. Their rerecording of "Re:birth" sounded so empty/terrible; it was super obvious that they only had one guitarist.
  5. Cool! Haven't heard a single the pillows song in a while, but I used to really enjoy them. Also, w00t at THE BOHEMIANS and WHITE ASH. Interesting release!

They uploaded a live performance of "Hero" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmMeYxJHsrk

Hey Deith, No, I don't buy singles that often, so I don't have this one. I downloaded it too, haha. Hopefully, someone can upload the regular edition... Have you seen the PV? http://www.jpopsuki.tv/video/NEGOTO---Synchro-Manica/5d025f44839cce77f73316a41ff1ee2f

Yeah, streamlining the list is a great idea. Some categories (like "best ballad") were definitely filler. I do kinda want to keep the "What the Hell were they thinking!?-award " though, simply so Misaruka's terrible Gekka no Yasoukyoku cover/PV can win, haha.

^Thanks, Trombe! LOVING that bass and atmosphere. Perfect gif.

Holy shit, it's coming out so soon! Hopefully it will also be available on their webshop. I need this! Saishuu, that song is from a single BEFORE "A Day in the PanoraMagic" and they were still known as "dim my division" It's more "angura" than their usual shoegazey stuff.

Joining "Pandabear" on the Jupiter nomination. My suggestions would be: DIV - ZERO ONE I honestly hate using the term "j-rock" but this really is a solid "j-rock" album. After this album, I foresee them landing a major-label deal and as long as they maintain this quality (*eyes narrow* we'll see...), I'm fine with that. The positives: +Great compositions; restraint shown when necessary +Almost all of the new songs are better than the three old songs +Cohesive sound throughout album, but with enough variety +Chisa is a highly capable vocalist +Wonderful improvements in the synth/electronic arrangement department You can see my full review here. http://www.monochrome-heaven.com/topic/24314-div-zero-one/?p=303649 (Most of the other reviewers seemed to have equally positive thoughts about the album.) Samples from the album: ねごと (NEGOTO) - 5 Unfortunately, only Deith and a handful of others on MH seem to care about them, haha. NEGOTO is a (imo underrated) major-label all-girl pop-rock group with keyboard and quirky, indie rock influences. While this second album shows less of an emphasis on the keyboard/piano, the composition and musicianship is nonetheless very strong among these young women (I believe they just finished college this year)! Check out some of their creative PVs to hear their sound. (Carpe diem) - Carpe diem One of those "fringe" VK bands that maybe kinda associate themselves with the scene, but bring something new and fresh. The closest thing I can compare them to is Jikkendai Marmot, though this band is darker and more rock-oriented. But that "jaunty" factor is somehow still here on certain tracks. The vocalist does have very exaggerated vocals, but this time, I see that as a positive thing. Although the album is padded with instrumentals, the musicians are very capable and, unlike filler "SE," these melancholic tracks are actually a joy to listen to. I'm pretty sure this band came out of nowhere for most of MH, but I'm glad we got the chance to hear them!

My main suggestion was and remains... rather than choosing ONLY 1 candidate for each category, we should be able to submit perhaps 3. My rationale for this is that it is often quite difficult to decide the absolute best in any given category (especially for fickle people like me, ). That combined with "voting politics" (trying to consider, will my vote for 'obscure band x" count if everyone is picking Mejibray or GRIEVA for some award) makes it extra tough. I think having the chance to submit 3 candidates for a category solves these problems. Now I realize that having 3 candidates from each participating MH-user will increase the amount of work for you, so I am volunteering right now to help with anything you'd need regarding this competition (if you want)!
  13. 踊ってばかりの国 (odotte bakari no kuni) is releasing their 3rd full-length album. The self-titled album will be released January 22, 2014. The album will feature 13 tracks and the price is ¥2,625. This marks their first new release since the departure of their former bassist (new bassist is scuzzy tye dye guy) and subsequent hiatus. Glad to have them back! Their 2012 mini-album "FLOWER" was one of my favorites last year, so I'm excited! http://www.excite.co.jp/News/music/20131105/Okmusic_5910.html http://odottebakarinokuni.com/news/200/

The "extended tag cloud" is a great idea!
  15. I actually think there's something quite "fresh" about this track. Of course, it's dark and crazy, but about half of Kiryu's stuff is like that, haha. Agreed, sounds better than Tomoshibi and Etsu to Utsu, but I really enjoyed Aienkien (and the whole single). Mahiro's vocals might just "click" with you one day. I downloaded one of Kiryu's earliest releases back in the day, found it really awkward and deleted it from my HD a few days later, haha. Then one day, I heard one of their later singles and somehow, their sound made sense to me and I've really enjoyed them ever since. But ugh, I really hate that they continue this 4-type release bullshit.
  16. If you don't live in Japan, it can be a pain to see their music videos, but "Byudie" shared this with me. Loving the song! http://www.jpopsuki.tv/video/NEGOTO---Synchro-Manica/5d025f44839cce77f73316a41ff1ee2f
  17. I'm so puzzled by Juka's songs, haha. There's nothing remotely dark/halloween-y about these tracks at all... (Although I do guilty pleasure love how cheesy/ elevator-music sounding "aimless" is.)
  18. Is "Yasu" going by a different name now or did he disappear from the face of the MH-planet?

Already seen the Misaruka one, but thank you. I'm compiling a list of PVs shot there (I've found 10 so far, including Misaruka; see the first page of this thread for the whole list). But if you find any bands that have photoshoots there, I'd be interested too.
  20. fitear1590

Thanks for posting! I've been hooked since GIFT, so I'm definitely looking forward to this. As far as I know, the only other thing this year was the Fourth Wall EP.
  21. fitear1590

Even though this is "kinda" breaking the rules, I thought I would post this here, since it may have bypassed many of the indie fan's radars. Yeti, although formed from the members of 4 VK bands, sounds like no other VK band out there. They have a very strong indie/math rock influence. Check em out!
  22. fitear1590

yesss, bring on the German! More bands need to use pseudo German, not just fake French!
  23. fitear1590

Here's something interesting. I only JUST realized that Aicle had a photoshoot at the infamous arch place (the main promo image from their 心臓 / "Shinzou" album era, even though the Shinzou PV does NOT appear to be filmed there). And I saw this random band -jiji- on a VK flyer and they also had a band photoshoot here, haha. Anyone know of any others?
  24. fitear1590

Nice Augie, I really like the pier picture! _______________________ Here's some more point-n-shoot-tastic pictures (taken with my iPod touch, haha): This one is from my recent trip to the futuristic Valencia, Spain Inside Gaudi's Sagrada Familia church in Barcelona, Spain. Unlike any other architecture I've ever seen! And here's a church in my current city in Germany. Basic, but I like it!
  25. fitear1590

Yeah, digging those guitar riffs! A lot!
