I searched the forums and i did not find any discussion bout this matter so im starting one , cause i am really interested it the fact "why?" . Why would someone do something so stupid , you dont really have to be a smartass to know that it will not improve the quality but it will take more space for nothing . I would not waste my time to think about it , if not more and more transcodes would appear . I dont have any problems whit getting some albums in lower quality like 192 kbps cause im recoding everything using itunes to aac 192 . But the fact is that its still a lot better quality than transcodes are cause its only cutting off on 19 kHz . I think what i want to know the most is why ppl upload them at all , and transcode it in the first place , why waste more space . A 16 kHz song is a standard 128 kbps quality song where each 1 minute is about 1 mb big , why triple the amount of space they use up when the quality does not improve .

If youre that much into alternative genres , than you should try Tobyas , they are a great post grunge/alternative metal band . They released a new album this year but i dont have it , their first album is on itunes shop . Another great band would be Silhouette from the Skylit , great heavier sounding alternative rock with some post hardcore and electronic elements . Theyre album Arche is somewhere on the forum posted by me , if you still didnt download it , go check it out its really worth it .

Well i like to separate by countries as well but not into special "made up" genres , on the other hand i listen to asian music only anyway , you know japanese , chinese , malaysian and so on . Cause most of the "vk subgenre" stuff is made up by fans , and so angura has 2 different characterizations , one is its a style where bands play western styled rock and metal blending in japanese traditional stuff , and the make up and clothes are more into japanese traditional stuff those are bands like kaggra , onmyouza , inugami circus dan , the other one is that those are underground bands with darker sound and black clothings and make up , like mucc and girugamesh . Obviously the first one is more true , cause mucc is 100% eroguro . There is also the part that ppl read the characteristics of a genre and still classify something as they see fit . I heard of ppl who classified Crossfaith post hardcore with electronic elements , well thats exactly 2/3 of the electronicore description . Another great example of ultra paradoxal genre misclassification is Detroit Metal City , its a band playing Groove Metal , but the manga , anime and movie say they are Satanic Death Metal Band , but theyre make up tells you they are Extreme Black Metal or Raw Black Metal band . Its not like ppl dont want to learn about genres , its just that they are bombarded by such nonsenses all the time . There are a lot more new totally made up genres coming out , like Djent thats sounds not much different than progressive metal , or Sid Metal , thats basically sounding like a mix of Heavy and Power Metal , but the band wants to call it theyre own way . And there are more and more crossover bands coming up with weird genre mixes that are hard to classify , like funkcore , punk metal (never really heard any of that) . Theres also the whatevercore genre that if you look closer describes not the bands but rather ppl who dont know how to classify something , cause all bands that land in this category are either electronicore bands or bands that play some older genres like new wave or disco punk .

Thats good for doujin circles , altough 90% male vocals there would land in the bad vocals folder , but its not from my viewpoint but from what i read on doujinstyle , if you ask me , there are more good male vocalist on doujin scene . On the other hand , i dont think that the person who started this topic meant it this way , i think he wanted it as genres . I kinda understand him , cause if i want to make a mood playlist and want bands like gyze , making a playlist by Visual Kei would not fit at all , on the other had dumping in the playlist all modern melodeath bands would fit . 1st Crossfaith is not really that distinguishable from western bands , they sound like a lot american electronicore bands , they are not the first band who adds dubstep and electronic elements to melodic metalcore , its rather mega popular in the US , i would even say its as popular as Pop music . 2nd Oshare Kei bands are simple to classify , they are either pop punk or pop rock mostly with electronic elements . There are some Nu Metalish bands in Oshare but not many 3rd Nagoya Kei is almost always made of dark sounding genres coming mostly from the punk tree , like garage punk , post hardcore and metalcore , that can be heard in most Nagoya Kei bands like Deathgaze , The Studs and Lynch . Most of the time combined with alternative metal of course to make it sound more mainstream . I think oshare and nagoya are the easiest of all VK to categorize into genres , especially oshare as its dominated by pop punk .
  5. kurenaishineek

It depends on what you think gothic music is . Nightwish and Within Temptation are not gothic , Silver Sweet Edge Phantasm are gothic .
  6. kurenaishineek

Than look at all those goddamn post in this topic , im offtoping ? GODDAMMIT he just asked bout genres , not what you think about him wanting to tag it by genre not by subculture . It dosent need to help , its just a fact and maybe i bring it back a lot but no one in this topic is holy , cause all ppl here wrote crap no one asked for . Kei means style from japanese , so proper name in english would be visual style .
  7. kurenaishineek

Sorry to burst you bubble but 90% of new VK IS VERY BORING AND PREDICTABLE , older bands mixed a lot genres , todays VK bands are 90% dominated by a shitty mixdown of Alternative Metal and Metalcore . Other then few examples of course , and the VK rock bands , the metal one suck as hell . VK rock bands are a little less predictable but still its either pop punk , pop rock or alternative rock . So really dont try to make up some excuses for being lazy to know at least some characteristics from some genres . Read about 1 genre daily and after a month you will know a lot more . Altough its not really my place to say it , its your decision how you tag your music , its it either pop and rock , or pop and rock and metal , or even you use VK as a music tag , its your choice .

Okay i help out here a little cause i see as always ppl start to generalize , and justify why you should stick to calling music by not genre but by a subculture . Its stupid cause music is music , and only thanks to its stupid comercialization ppl started to think of it as a thing you "watch" and not "listen" . So heres the list , most of it is head on , some is a little simplified cause i dont know all the Rock genres out there . Kaggra - most of their stuff can be described as a mix of Dark Rock and some Traditional Japanese Folk elements , so lets say Folk/Dark Rock Kra - did not listen to much of their stuff , but its mainly alternative rock with jazz , pop and funk influences , there are also some pop rock songs from them Alice Nine - only listened to what they have on spotify and those are all pop rock songs , altough japanese wiki says its rock, pop rock, hard rock , so probably the more harder songs are power pop , but i only hear pop rock Versailles - thats pretty simple , cant believe no one hit it right its Symphonic/Neoclassical Power Metal , if you cut out those symphonic elements you have basically the same stuff Galneryus plays . Early NoGod , no difference early or not , they still play the same , its Heavy Metal , altough they got a lot better in it . Lolita 23q is a little of a mixdown of a lot of stuff in different genres , you have some glam rock , power pop , pop rock , industrial metal and nu metal . Ayabie only few songs i know and all where pop rock . Alsdead/Deluhi/Lycaon/Heartless , basically its what i hate in VK its a rather shitty americanized mixdown of alternative metal and metalcore that makes in neither metalcore nor alternative metal , deluhi was at least a little good at it the rest reather boring and repeatable , as all bands making this mix . New Lycaon dont know , did not listen after the crap they played at start . The Gazette started as very technicaly and guitar driven mix of darker industrial with hard rock , later they started with more commercial style of nu-metal trying to copy american metal bands , later turned themselves to alternative rock and alternative metal , no dont know ive already gave up they can record any album that wouldnt suck . Dir En Grey early stuff was a lot of genres , with some punk rock and garage punk , inustrial stuff , pop rock , rock , hard rock , there was even pop punk ("Jessica" , you remember this song) and some other stuff i dont really remember . Later started to play more commercial and americanized nu metal , then they started to change experimenting with stuff , mixing progressive metal with death metal and deathcore elements like on dum spiro spero , with some add on of ethnic stuff like in dozing green , now they still play a little more experimental but lighter and changes style to alternative metal . Older VK bands played a lit of different genres , Aliene Marriage played Dark/Gothic Rock , Pierrot played Hard Rock and Gothic Rock mostly , Luna Sea is a mix of many rock genres and from what i remember correctly thats what progressive rock is , and they do sound like all the other prog rock bands im listening too . Glay is power pop and pop rock . Copy cats are copy cats , theyre just copies and basically do the same stuff the ones they copy do . Miyavi , uh not really like him so cant help you out , but heard someone called some of their stuff blues . Piass is a hardcore/thrashcore band , hardcore songs where good , the thrashcore ones , well i dont like this genre . Renter en soi , call me what you want for not knowing this band but ive never heard em . But i checked it on youtube , well to be precise only some songs , Protoplasm - Gothic Rock Last Scene - typical lighter Alternative Metal song Amongst Foolish Enemies - Alternative Metal/Metalcore So its for now its hard to classify em , but i think taging them as Alternative Metal band would be the best here . Hope it helps out , if you really want to classify em so you can easily compare em and make better playlists , than you should read bout the genres on wikipedia maybe knowing the characteristics of some genres will help you in the future . I know there is a lot of genres , but you really only need to focus on some of them , cause no matter what other ppl say VK bands are not really playing that many genres , they mostly focus on Alternative Rock & Metal , Nu Metal , Punk Rock , Power Pop , Pop Rock , Metalcore , Gothic Rock , Dark Rock . Bands like Versailles and NoGod are rather rare , true metal bands on VK scene are almost non existent . BTW just a stupid offtop question , anyone ever heard a VK band playing Post British Pop (like Coldplay or Keane) , cause some time ago i heard such band on youtube but i forgot the name and i wasent logged in on youtube so its not in my history .

Bands should worry bout illegal downloads? Is this a joke? Come on, how much are you into music. Most ppl know that 90% of bands income are live concerts and other performances and not the albums they release. And the piracy did not increase that much thanks to internet, it was high even without it. So saying that some aritst should worry bout illegal download is kinda like a bad joke told by someone who dosent know much. My friend has a band and he said hes not gonna record any CD's cause they get more cash from concerts, and they upload all theyre stuff free on their site and still get a shitload of cash.
  10. kurenaishineek

The answer for me is simple , yes upload it if you dont mind , and if youre not scared of the consequences if you get caught . For me , uploaded albums are the only way to listen to asian music , cause of stupid media who try to only play the latest fukin crap out there and ban the good stuff and the stuff thats not in english language or not coming from EU and US . Not to mention ppl like me who are rather poor and have a hard time to get enough cash for living , so WE dont deserve to listen to music we like cause its not in some dumb TV ? Cause we are too poor to buy it , with todays CD's prices being so high ? I say bullshit , the labels steal money from us and they steal from the artists as well , cause they are being paid only a percent or so of the CD's price . Well its different when an artist releases it himself , but still it want change the fact that no matter how much you talk and talk bout it , the fact that ppl will download illegally wont change at all . Also there is the fact mentioned by some ppl earlier of paying even more cause of import cd shops , and not to mention the ultra high prices of transport , just for example my friend bought the Tenra Bansho Zero books for 50$ and paid 60$ transport cost , thats fukin insane . So my end statement ? Legal Music yes , but only for rich ppl . If the labels would truly want to fight illegal downloads they could do a lot just by lowering the prices , cause they dont need 50% profit on each CD .
  11. kurenaishineek

    BTW nice zombie look .
  12. kurenaishineek

Is this not masato from coldrain? Sounds legit , have to look for their mini album .
  13. kurenaishineek

All bands are good and what i was looking but only Disgust got to me , as a band that sounded really good , the guitar work was definitely better then in the rest of those bands . Thanks for all the recommendations , ive picked out some of the bands to check em more closely . If you remember any other good bands in this way than keep it coming .
  14. kurenaishineek

For non-VK im and expert , i know all those non-VK you gave here , and i know all other non-VK metal bands from japan , thats why i wanted to try something else and come back to VK . Gregory sounds really good . @Maniac , 3 random favs eh? Man you hit the spot , the normal vocals are a little unskilled in some of them but the shouts and screams are good , and Jiluka had some nice guitar work there too .
  15. kurenaishineek

Well i would like to look at some new stuff , i know a lot from oldschool vk scene from before 10 years , so something good from last 10 years . Im listening to onmyouza but i dont really treat them as a visual kei band , rather as a kabuki style heavy metal band like seikima II , im listening to Galeyd and D'espairs Ray as well . From mucc i like there darker and heavier stuff like the album 666 . Lament has muted shouts , and thats what i dont want at all , i can take autotune normal vocals , but muted shouts and growls sound like they dont even know how to shout and growl , the same goes for the Piass . I wan real shouts and growls not something like this . if you shout or growl only this is aceptable , no crapy efects that make the vocals sound muted .
  16. kurenaishineek

ive listened to them for a while , but i got bored with bands who mix Alternative Metal and Metalcore , because they use only fast riffs from metalcore and nothing more . Also there is too many bands doing this mix , making this boring . This song is not better it sound like what i heard from them 2 years ago , repeatable not to mention most other bands with fake shouts and growls have better guitar work then Deathgaze .
  17. kurenaishineek

As in the title im looking for some VK recommendations , lately i want to add some bands to my collection . Im rather a new VK hater , but still i wanna try some stuff and maybe i find something i will like . First i wanna say what im not looking for and what makes me gate new Vk , its all those "fake" auto tuned growls and shouts that sound like crap . When i hear them i feel like im gonna vomit my brain out . All those shitty effects only destroy true brutal vocals , that where meant to be brutal and not f...ed up . So im looking for VK bands where vocalist now how to growl and shout without all those stupid effects . I dont mid auto tune on clean vocals , but not on growls . I know i could look for myself but i checked 50 bands since last week all with screams , shouts and growls on some stupid effects that made them sound like frog croaking having a hard case of constipation . Heres what i found good : Lycaon - Early stuff very good , later a little too boring for my taste . Nocturnal Bloodlust - i follow em since before they started to be VK and they are good , but i hate em for losing 3 members after wanting to go VK most stupid choice and the worst loss to japanese extreme music scene , cause there are only 3 deathcore bands now . Versailles - they more old school VK then new school , awesome band Girugamesh - best shouts ever , after Music theyre albums started to be to Pop-ish . CodeRebirth - sounds promising , but only 4 songs , thats not too much to rate them yet Deluhi - what to say leda learned a lot from syu so his guitar work got awesome on later stuff , and the shouts where really brutal and great .

Still , VK bands in 90's where playing a lot of styles , DeG played 10 different genres . Todays VK bands are centered around alternative metal and in the most shitiest way possible . For 8 years now i didnt hear any VK bands that dont play alternative metal , the first one was Omega Dripp and thats why i got hooked in by them very fast , even if they arent so great , still they are better than 99% on new VK . Not to mention , that most bands , have so crappy sound and repeating songs that i can listen to one of them but when i listen to a whole album i dont see much difference between the songs . They are all the same , sounding like the same crap , with even more crap on it . Second of all looking like someone is one thing , and i give a crap bout it , cause i dont look at music i listen to it , they can look like shit , if they play good i will listen to them . But if i hear nega or sadie or lynch that have most songs just stolen from oldschool VK bands its just fukin makes me mad . They take it as theyre own songs , when in reality they are more like covers or rearranges of others songs . So dont compare Kawamura Ryuichi to what im talking about , cause those are two different things .
  19. kurenaishineek

Yeah but the more know bands didnt doo as much crap as now , i can make a list of 90's VK bands that where great and it would be a long list , 10 years of music and a lot over 300 great bands that i know . New visual kei from 2000 up unitl now , 13 years , and only 5 good bands worth mentioning , if you still dont see any difference than i wont waste any more time , i just pointed a crime in music scene from my viewpoint , as the topic suggested . It wasent meant for any discussion .
  20. kurenaishineek

Yes , and no , inspiration is one thing , i dont mind that , but total rip offs are something else . Touhou arranges are excused , they are supposed to arranges of touhou songs and sometimes they have mixed in elements of other songs to make it more fun , but if i listen to a new visual kei band and i hear songs that where made by other bands and are not called covers , than its a crime , cause they stole those songs . So by this crime i meant stealing songs thats one , second thing , true old school visual kei was made to be unique and its was so in old days , now all band change they look if the band they copy does so too , thats the second part of the crime . Music is meant to be listened and played , not watched and made by looks .
  21. kurenaishineek

The 90's bands had a very unique sound so im trying to get my hands on some bands lately , lets just say that this topic is for recommending bands from the 90's , also it will be a good topic to check when you will have the need for some older stuff . So my favs are Siam Shade - if you look for hard rock of the best kind , dont look any more , this was one of the best HR bands ever , melodic riffs , awesome solos , and really happy upbeat songs . Lastier - do i have to say why? it oldschool VK . L'arc En Ciel - cause i loved they old style and . B'z - awesome hard rock band , call them a legend if you want , they made the rock scene better , and they still exist , but theyre newer albums are not that great as the older ones .
  22. kurenaishineek

Being a Visual Kei band and defiling what the fathers of VK created by copying each others songs . This is the biggest crime , and if you ask me , every one that is guilty of this crime should get executed .
  23. kurenaishineek

Great but those are only 4 bands that are unique vs hundreds of copys .
  24. kurenaishineek

Gangnam Style in Metalcore , most fun song ever . Malaysians now how to make a good cover song . So go listen to it NOW .
  25. Lately ive started to listen to Pinoy music and i must say they have some great and awesome bands , so i thought i share one of them with all off you , of course it will be just some info with some songs from youtube to give them a listen . ChicoSci is 5 piece rock band from Manila , Philippines . They started in 1996 named Chico Science , but theyre debut album "Revenge of the Giant Robot" was released 4 years later in 2000 . Their early stuff was mainly nu-metal/rapcore but after the first album they started to get some more melodic feel to their music , also they changed theyre name to ChicoSci . In 2012 they released theyre newest album "This Is Not A Chicosci Record" , i highly recommend this album to everyone . Its a great mix of different genres like post hardcore , alternative rock , new wave and pop punk . Just one listen to this and youre gonna love it , cause this albums is a masterpiece .
