HikariKoba and YamiKoba shall soon collide. The earth will tremble in the wake of their preordained meeting. The gears of fate have been set in motion. There is no turning back.

I couldn't really get into the new COHOL. Not that it was "bad" or anything, but it was missing the melodic edge of their first album imo. I love melody in general, but it's particularly important for me in heavier music.

I actually imagine some of my favorite songs as anime themes XD

I didn't mention this in my blurb, but suiyoubi's main draw for me is Kenmochi Hidefumi. His production on the album is pretty sick, and I've always enjoyed his style in general. I had an issue with kom_i's vocals at first, and I still think she's expendable, but I've more or less forced myself to get used to them, haha.

I don't think I ever tried CHARA before this year, but I thought 'SECRET GARDEN' was fairly enjoyable. She worked with a bunch of cool musicians like Mabanua and THE NOVEMBERS on it.

Looks like TK from ling tosite sigure composed a song for Ando Yuko's upcoming album. I was pretty hyped when I saw this on twitter, but having listened to the sample on itunes, it sounded like your generic ballad. I didn't hear anything remotely resembling TK's signature style either. Ah well, here's to hoping that the entire song turns out better. http://www.ando-yuko.com/news/special.php

What's a good place to start with this band? I REALLY liked their 'kyuubi' single and the tracks they had on the 'FAMILY PARTY' compilation!

The DIY culture definitely exists in Japan, it's just much less visible to us than certain other areas of Japanese music. There's so much stuff out there that doesn't get recognized my overseas fans. For one, downloads play a big part here since that's how most people abroad discover Japanese music - there's a ton of stuff that never leaks or gets distributed in this way. Part of the reason is that this stuff simply isn't very accessible. When it comes to DIY stuff, since a lot of these people don't operate through labels or belong to small, underground labels, often times, the only way you can obtain their music is at live shows or through local shops/distributors. And even for the DIY stuff that does get pirated, there aren't really many dedicated fandoms to support this stuff - so things like lyrics, interviews, reviews, etc. don't get translated. Information in general doesn't get very far. Despite the Japanese music industry being a fucking fossil (like most music industries), I don't think their current system will be going anywhere in the near future. However, it does seem like more and more musicians are taking to bandcamp, soundcloud, and other means to get their music out there. Artists seem to be more conscious in general, so that's a step in the right direction at least.

Lyrics generally don't matter to me unless they're bad to the point that they're distracting. I've always been more attracted to timbre - sounds and their many shapes and forms. On the flip side, the right lyrics with the right music can really be compelling.
