  1. I'm extremely impressed with Morte Et Dabo.

It's like all of BMTH's new album all in one song.

I haven't heard BMTH's new album other than It Never Ends, but Morte Et Dabo is pretty sick. It's definitely one of the highlights of the new album and is a prime example of what this band is really good at. They can fuse different tempos and styles and transition flawlessly from one to another. It's a staple of their songs and adds interest and fun to their brutality. Hence why Morte Et Dabo has a whole bunch of things going on but its condensed.

I'm actually disappointed this band just finished headlining a north American tour and came nowhere near where I was. They're on the warped tour but I'm still not sure if I'm going. They deserve more than a hour to play. There are songs I really want to hear live.

    Mort Et Dabo

    Breathless

    Closure

    A Lesson Never learned

    Nobody Don't Dance No More

  2. dey r kwl. I played the fuck out of Crack The Skye when I got it on vinyl

Through listening to this band I found out about The Ocean, who are somewhat similar and just as kick ass.

I def need to check out the ocean then.

Just bought Mastodon's live DVD - Live At The Aragon. It's got the entire performance of Crack The Skye plus a few others. :rawk:

They're working on their new album so I'm also excited about that.

  3. Your current and dream gear/instruments

Violin was the first instrument I learned to play and I've been playing it for years now. This my awesome Karl Willhelm Violin.

This was my first guitar. A takamine acoustic guitar G series. Its one of the best acoustic guitars I’ve ever played and sounds better than other guitars that are $300 or more in its price range. Vibrant, loud and awesome resonance.

The two other guitars I own are a Schecter Omen Extreme 6 in Trans Ocean blue

And my most prized possession, a Ibanez S5470 Prestige Red Viking.

I have two pairs of amps. A Marshall MG30FX 30 watt combo practice amp which is great for practicing at home with headphones or a band. Plus a Peavey 100watt valveking head and valveking 4x12 cabinet halfstack for filling in much larger spacious rooms.

Aside from that I’ve got a SM58 mike, a crybaby wah pedal in additions to other guitar pedals and some cables. So that’s everything I killed myself to get.

    Now my dream gear.

A Les paul studio deluxe. :domo:

  4. Okay since I've had enough time to listen to their new album I can honestly say that I love it. At first I thought it was okay since their new record isn't as engaging as their last but there's some definite improvement and experimentation. The inclusions of string sections, higher pitched growls, catchier choruses, improved guitar work, and an industrial sounds.

Morte Et Dabo is a perfect example of this. It's heavy and chaotic and has the low and high pitched growls, sparse menacing industrial beats, and a hooky chorus with an awesome guitar riff. The Match is sort of similar minus the higher pitched growls and with a techno breakdown. Both are some of my favorite songs. I also loved Dear insanity, Closure with another awesome electronic breakdown, A Lesson Never Learned which has the poppiest chorus they have ever done, Breathless, Another Bottle Down, and Someone, Somewhere which features only clean vocals.

To sum up Reckless and Relentless:

Pros: Deathcore like metal with techno breakdowns

Cons: The lyrics could use some work.

  5. I remember I use to hate poetry in my early years but then I started writing tons of songs. Granted most of them were crappy 14-year-old penned songs with a few jewels here and there. Then I started to take it seriously and made great effort to improve. Part of that was analyzing lots of songs, and getting into poetry. Now I love it and study it on daily basis. I experiment using different techniques, rhythm schemes and writing about a wide range of subjects. I also have an immense respect for bands/artists who take great effort not only to make awesome music but to write awesome lyrics. Especially since there are bands out there with sub par or downright horrid lyrics. The better ones usually have music that’s good enough so that their song writing can be overlooked.

I'm sure I'm not the only here who writes lyrics, so feel free to give us a taste of your poetry/songwriting.

  6. flcl.jpg

FLCL revolves around Naota. His life in the city of Mabase is interrupted by the arrival of Haruko Haruhara (who is an alien) who bursts on the scene by running Naota over with her Vespa scooter, then giving him CPR and hitting him on the head with a blue vintage Rickenbacker 4001 left-handed electric bass guitar. Ever since then, Giant Robots from Medical Mechanica have been coming out of Naota's head.

This is one my favorite anime series. Not only is it hilarious, but its got an offbeat animation style(usually during lots of character movement), and a really weird but original plot. I love the characters and excellent story telling. Which is why the mix of comedy, scifi, action, romance, and sexuall perversion are pulled off so well. A lot of the writing is really smart and subtle and something I grew to appreciate after watching the series more than once. Another thing I grew to appreciate was the series length. Initially a complaint I had was that such an awesome anime was only 6 episodes long but now I think it adds to the genius of it. And inevitably after watching the series it made me a pillows fan.

Haste the Day was an American metalcore band signed with Solid State Records that was formed in Carmel, Indiana 2001. Their band is named after a lyric in the hymn "It Is Well With My Soul." The band released their debut release, an extended play titled That They May Know You, in 2002, followed by five studio albums: Burning Bridges (2004), When Everything Falls (2005), Pressure the Hinges (2007), Dreamer (2008), and Attack of the Wolf King (2010). The band disbanded in March 2011.

    Final line-up:

    Stephen Keech – lead vocals

Mike Murphy – bass, backing vocals

    Dave Krysl – guitar

    Giuseppe Capolupo – drums, percussion

Scotty Whelan – guitar, backing vocals

    Haste the Day - Travesty

    8mc_oby6_GY

This is one of the metalcore bands I really got into for the past 3 years. Which was why I was highly disappointed when I heard they were breaking up. I did manage to see them live on their farewell tour and they left with what every band should leave with, a great album.

One of things I always liked about this band is how on every album everything improved. The vocals, the instruments, the sound production etc. Plus I love Stephen Keech’s vocals. I found them to stand out more from other metalcore bands and to have more of a raw and harsher edge. While Mike Murphy’s vocals were always much more engaging and catchy.

Attack of the Wolf King, which was their last album is probably their best work and IMO one of the underrated metal albums of 2010. Stephen and Mike give their best vocal performance ever, and is actually best heard on the balladish song White As Snow. The drumwork, bass playing and subtle technical guitar playing are all top notch.

Aside from Attack of the Wolf King, Dreamer, and Pressure the hinges have to be favorite albums of theirs. Burning Bridges was also quite good, even though I don’t know of the more death metaly vocal were due to a different singer or that it was their first album.

  8. I can't say I've ever been into manga before since I don't like borrowing books from the library and I didn't have a job before to purchase several volumes of one series. But I decided to pick something up at the bookstore since I was having my wisdom teeth removed and would be home in bed for a couple of days. And I came across this.

    biomega01.jpg

    Biomega Synopsis:

In the year 3005 A.D the N5S virus has swept across the earth, turning most of the population into zombie-like drones. Zoichi Kanoe, an agent of Toa Heavy Industry, is humanity's last hope, and he's not even human! With the help of Fuyu, an artificial intelligence built into the computer system of his Heavy Duty Coil motorcycle, Zoichi's search for the key to salvation will take him on a journey across surreal landscapes and hurl him into battle against mind-bending evil. Zoichi Kanoe plunges into the depths of 9JO - an island city in the middle of the Pacific Ocean - in search of Eon Green, a girl with the power to transmute the N5S virus. He's not the only one looking for her, though... Agents of the Public Health Service's Compulsory Execution Unit are also in hot pursuit. Zoichi and his transhuman allies have no time to waste; the countdown to the zombie apocalypse has begun!

I've already read the 1st volume and its pretty awesome. I love the doomsday feel of the manga and the dark landscapes and futuristic cities are really well drawn. The zombies are both gross and terrifying. Zoichi is pretty bad ass armed with an assortment of weapons and his rad motorcycle. There's lots of action and a moment of humor every now and then.

I''ll be picking up the second volume sometime this week. I especially recommend this if your into scifi, cyberpunk, zombies, action, or grizzly bears.

  9. I think at this point everyone can blame herpes.

Also I'm not sure if I should categorize this as bad or not, but I basically got a back boob massage by some girl once. I was at another metal concert and she was standing behind me and apparently really into the band because she kept jumping up and down. And since the crowd was really packed every time she jumped I kept feeling her boobs bouncing along my back. She did stop after like 3 or 4 songs.

  10. Overall I'd call them a shitty band, but Lunar Strain are amazing and Subterranean are good. But I wonder what it is with Melodic Death Metal bands that suddenly goes Alternative Metal/Rock.

I love their early work and though I don't have as much disdain as you do for their releases afterward( since I actually like some of it), it also makes me wonder why the hell melodic death metal bands all of sudden go Alternative metal/rock.

  11. Fortunately for me I haven't had that many. Other than occasionally being next to some random guy with horrible B.O or being stuck behind a 7 foot giant.

The one true bad experience was when I went to a metal show. I was all the way in the front, next to the stage enjoying the music when some dudes began crowd surfing. Every ten seconds someone was literary launched into the unreceptive crowd and passed overhead. It totally ruined the experience for me since I had to constantly be on guard and couldn't enjoy the music.. Despite all that, I get kicked in the head a couple of times and dropped my digital camera. I ended up moving away from the front to the side.

Skeletonwitch is an American extreme metal band from Athens, Ohio. They are currently signed to Prosthetic Records. Skeletonwitch's vocals are characteristically in the death metal/black metal vein, with Chance Garnette performing both the low guttural shouts and growls as well as the higher pitched black metal screams. Vocalist Chance Garnette and guitarist Nate Garnette are brothers.

    Chance Garnette – vocals

Nate "Nate Feet Under" Garnette – guitars

Scott "Scunty D." Hedrick – guitars

    Evan "Loosh" Linger – bass

    Tony Laureano - drums

Metalswim got me into these guys. Awesome video by the way.

  13. In-Flames2.jpg

In Flames is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Gothenburg, formed in 1990. Since the band's inception in 1993, they have released nine studio albums and one live DVD. As of 2008, In Flames has sold over 2.5 million records worldwide

    Anders Friden - Vocals

    Björn Gelotte - Guitars

    Peter Iwers - Bass

    Daniel Svensson - Drums

    Niclas Engelin - Guitars

In Flames, along with Dark Tranquillity and At the Gates, pioneered what is now known as melodic death metal. The founding members of all three bands all lived in Gothenburg, Sweden and they were all friends who shared the same musical interests. Eventually, that group of friends branched off into three bands with the same musical direction, In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, and At the Gates.

Jesper Strömblad formed In Flames to write music that combined the melodic guitar style of Iron Maiden with the brutality of death metal, something which Jesper stated he had never heard any band do. In writing songs, Jesper also decided to make use of keyboards, something which was (at the time) uncommon in death metal. Ever since In Flames' debut studio album, Lunar Strain, the band has made use of keyboards.

In Flames, being one of the pioneers of a new music genre, have influenced many bands and most notably they were a direct influence on the new wave of metalcore. Many metalcore bands such as Trivium, Darkest Hour, Slowlife, As I Lay Dying, and Still Remains name In Flames as one of their biggest influences. In Flames is also a direct influence on many of the melodic death metal bands that have followed. Melodic death metal bands such as Insomnium, Omnium Gatherum, and Blood Stain Child also include In Flames as one of their biggest influences.

    In Flames - Moonshield

    CffJeVSAJk8

Been following these guys for awhile and through all the changes in members/musical directions, The Jester Race is my favorite albums of theirs.
