Eh? I've always heard extremely nice things about Russian fans and their behaviour at lives. I don't know about this... but I read HORRIBLE things which happened during Versailles' Russian concert. Maybe it depends on the band, but they were lovely when D'espairsRay were there. I was really touched by the way they behaved. Why can't you go to the UK? That's relatively close to Italy...

Noooooo, Hizumi has never smoked. He doesn't drink much either. The rest of them, on the other hand, smoke a lot. Karyu smokes up to or over two packs a day. Imagine that second-hand smoke.

It was more like everyone was spreading rumours about him having AIDS, I think. Which has already started with Hizumi as well.

Curiously, though, I believe Tatsurou and Hizumi share (or shared) a vocal coach and employ the same singing techniques. So I'm doubting that Hizumi's vocal problems are caused by a peculiar vocal technique, just overuse and over exertion. I mean, they have been working nonstop for two years. For those interested, I translated Karyu's entry, which is quite sad in the way that it's written (dejected, broken sentences, etc) but he again just asks for everyone to wait and believe in Hizumi's ability to recover. And says that he will continue to write songs for D'espairsRay, regardless of their activity pause, for as long as need be.

Anyway, because the translation from LJ makes it seem a tiny bit worse than it is (not bashing the translator here, love his/her work), it should be noted that basically after the tour Hizumi plans to take the beginning of next year off and hopes to return at some point the same year (maybe mid or late 2011 then) fully recovered. Hizumi pretty much insists that the decision is a positive one and I agree with him. They should have taken a break a while ago. I suspect all he needs is rest and to focus on getting better/seeing doctors.

I pray his condition improves. I knew this tour would be impossibly tough on his vocals. They really should have rested a bit. Kind of sensed this coming, to be honest, so I'm not that surprised.

I haven't listened to the new album yet, but I suspect they'll be playing new songs at the live on Sunday. Unabashedly my favourite Blind Guardian song is actually their cover of Dream A Little Dream of Me. And I love the A Twist in the Myth album, so I don't personally think anything after Imaginations / Nightfall is bad. I'd go as far as to say A Twist in the Myth is their best album, but that's just me. Not so big on A Night at the Opera. Too much of Hansi's vocals can be grating, though. I'm a bigger fan of him dueting with other vocalists on Ayreon's albums.
