Crimson got a reaction from Katt in [CLUB] Starter bands for people getting into old school VisualKei
I know. I remember browsing vk .gy and saw the name BY-SEXUAL and thought "What a name for a band. Definitely gonna check it out."
As for Neil, I remember someone recommending it to me.

Crimson reacted to aetarna in Visual Kei on Spotify Compilation
Because I have no life, here have a small list of visual kei artists available for listening over spotify. Some have full discographies some only few albums or singles. there are also instances on several artists from all over the world being grouped together on one page, because of shared name.
What is spotify? - to put it short, a digital music streaming service. It comes in two flavors - free with ads, and paid via subscription, with no ads and few useful perks. Sign up, log in, most likely download their application to your computer or mobile and you're set.
Isn't that piracy? - no it's completly legal and artists and/or their label (we know how that goes...) are getting paid for each listen.
For the start I cut this list into two categories. First one is the bands that retain their japanese song tags even on spotify - for all purists who want their last.fm scrobbles accurate

Crimson reacted to Laurence02 in My Introduction
Hi from Sweden!
It's very much a niche thing here as well - I know of less than ten people actively listening to (at least, older) VK here.
You have nice taste! Do you prefer indies-era X or major-era X Japan?

Haha, that's quite true The only life form here are aliens or space-like krills who know little about visual kei XD Aside from the digression, it's nice to meet you as well ^^v

I understand seeing where you live. VK will be hard to get in outer space 😂. Jokes aside nice to meet you both @monkeybanana4 and @K-x-H.

Crimson got a reaction from platy in My Introduction
I am a university student from Bulgaria and I can speak four languages (very little Turkish, ironically my mother tongue, Bulgarian, English and medium level Japanese at best).
I was very into Japanese music since little, because of anime. But I only listened to anime openings, endings and occasionally some anime, dorama OSTs with a little K-pop from time to time.
But last year changed everything, I was introduced to heavy music by listening to Lordi and that's when my metal and hard rock obsession started. I became more indulged in different genres of music and become more musically diverse in my opinion. I am always open to a new genre of music to listen to.
As far as my VK introduction went, I listened to Versailles and that was a great introduction to a new style of expression in music. After Versailles, I started getting more into other VK bands like exist trace, Dir en Grey, X Japan, the GazettE, Insanity Injection, BY-SEXUAL, NéiL, Malice Mizer and Codomo Dragon which are all my favourite bands of all time. I have a lot more bands I have listened to but these I listened more than just one song. I also listen to some foreign VK bands as BatAAr and VII Arc.
For J-rock bands, I really love Wagakki Band, Galneryus, Yousei Teikoku and Abingdon boys school. For J-pop, I really recommend Yama-P and Utada Hikaru.
I could talk all day about music and hope I can share my opinions with you guys because as Visual Kei is very niche in the west it's almost impossible to find VK fans in my country.

Crimson reacted to Dyingmoments in HELLO EVERYONE
I'm Jamie. I'm an engineer from South Carolina. Ive been into VK and most J-music since....sometime in the late 90's. Im not sure when it was but someone posted a link to the ESP Japan site and I saw all the glorious and batshit guitars there and had to hear the music these people made. The first band I listened to was Malice Mizer. This was before youtube so I had to get on soulseek and download everything I could find. Before long I was watching Gackt descend from the ceiling of a cathedral in angel wings and 7" press on nails and I havent looked back since.
I suppose what I like most about VK, as a man, is how it approaches a male perspective in vastly contrasting and opposing ways from alot of western music. VK presents an intimacy that you just dont get from male performers in the west, especially in heavier settings. VK artists can be distressed or vulnerable or sexual in a way that's not the standard western "old man and the sea" style of abstraction. I guess its that, alot of times, they approach sexuality or sentimentality in a direct and open way that, as a man, just does'nt exist in my world.
Im a pretty sentimental person and, especially being a man in the south, that has its own problems. VK is kindof a wonderland for me in that sense. Im sure thats why it appeals to a mostly female fanbase, though from experience women dont seem all that thrilled with having men like that in their life directly.
I joined because I find that, when you bring up VK on most forums or in most music discussion settings, it generally invites disaster. Alot of people that are "serious" about music, if they've ever heard about it at all, discredit it as being silly or as an extension of otaku culture. I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand I completely see the otaku argument. I think there is a larger portion of the fanbase that would'nt be into it if they were'nt into anime or videogames. Im not saying that makes them any less of a fan at all, but I'm never sure if they really like it for the music or mostly because its "HOT AZN BOIZ". I also get that being attractive and being fashion forward gives alot of westerners the impression that the scene is a gimmick. I guess I understand that and I definitely think there are some bands that are far less serious about their musical output than others.
Anyway I'll stop rambling. I'm happy to be here and thank you so much for having me. I hope I make some friends and learn alot of new things!
