  1. Sorry for the late reply! I thought I would get a notification or sth ;D I hope you'r still around, so that we can discuss Ancafe :)

There are some very good songs on your list! I can also very much recommend a lot of AnCafe's B-Side songs from their older days.

    Here are my favourites:

    1. Snow Scene

    2. ese Uranai

    3. Aurora

    4. Koukai

    5. Rinne no tsumi

    6. Ame no Hankagai

    7. Inazuma no senrizu

    8. Hisokyo

    9. Super Rabbit

    10. Kawayus Rock

These are in no particular order, but they are all amazing. It was very hard to chose my top 10 favourites because there are just so many!

I can feel you haven't been around j-rock for years)

    Yeah, in 2013, I believe.

I've been away for a couple of years (even though I listened to JRock a lot, I was just not very much up to date with new bands/releases)

Or maybe I just forgot about it and now I'm shocked all over again haha ;D

I always thought it was pronounced just like the wizard of Oz :)

I still bang these guys pretty frequently. It's hard to think that they're gone. TBH their disbandment hit me almost as hard as ReS looking back at it.

*getting back into the j rock scene*

    ....Oz disbanded? :(

  4. Now that I'm in full on JRock revival mode, I also decided to give Mucc another chance. I've never disliked them, but I never really got into their music. But I have to say, my teenage self was WRONG. Listened to Gokusai on youtube, and it's a great album indeed! I kind of like the way it'd set up, every song is unique, and it seems as if it follows some kind of concept. I just added another CD to my "soon-to-buy" list.

  5. My last music-related buy escalated quite quickly for there were many records on sale. Now I'm poor, but quite happy as well...haha ;)

Dir en Grey- Arche (I know, FINALLY.)

    Merry- M.E.R.R.Y

    Merry- Nonsense Market

    Merry- Peep Show

    Merry- under-world

    Merry- nu chemical rhetoric

AnCafe- Laugh Song (sadly, only the regular edition, I would've loved to have bought the other one as well, but toooo expensive)

    Girugamesh- Monster

    Girugamesh- Chimera

Next buys when I've got the money:

    Merry- modern garde

    Girugämesh- Go

    Maximum the Hormone- Kusoban

    Luna Sea- Eden

  6. I'm so mad at myself for getting into them a year after I've been to Tokyo....just saw modern garde for 1000 yen on the website of a shop I've been to...sigh. But I also found it in a anime/vk shop not far away from my hometown. It's 23 euros though. Whyyy.

But, on a brighter note (not for my bank account though), I finally bought M.E.R.R.Y, Nonsense Market, Peep Show, Under-world and nu chemical rhetoric! Except for nonesense market, they were all on sale for 8,95 :)))

I'm definitely planning on getting modern garde as well.

I'll let you know what I think :)

  7. Which album was better: Chimera or Go? I'm not familiar with either of them, but I cannot buy both.

I loved their older stuff, and Monster was a pretty good album as well. I generally prefer their heavier stuff.

EDIT: actually wnated to post this into the general threat *facepalm*

  8. Can I just say that I've seen clips on youtube, and I've never seen the band so ALIVE? Like, they are full of energy, they communicate so well with the audience, and also maybe it's just in my head, but there seems to be less tension among the bandmembers as well? I really enjoy wantching their new lives (actually I thought they were getting better again around 2013.)

I could take one of my neighbour's horses if we didn't live an hour and a half driving distance from the nearest airport. lmao They casually hang out on their lawn like giant dogs.

I'm just not looking forward to taking 20+ hours to travel somewhere.

ahahahaha, oh my God, where do you live?! :D

Yeah, 20 hours sound awful...our airport is one hour away, I can't even imagine having a travel time to the next airport that is longer than the flight itself. But I'm sure it'll all be worth it!

I also hate that airport with a passion but the staff have always been fabulously great with me and my hillbilly ass because I don't know how public transportation and flying works. Sorry I grew up in the middle of nowhere, we just have boats and a lot of broken roads the government refuses to repair.

You're only a real hillbilly when you ride your horse to the airport, wearing a cowboy hat.

  11. I agree that Pussy wasn't a particularily good song....but I think there were some pretty good ones on LIFAD as well (Waidmann's Hail, Führe mich, Halt, Rammlied, etc)

Btw: I recently talked about the way Rammstein is often perceived in Germany and how some people were giving me weird looks because I wore Rammstein shirts? I actually thought society was mostly done with it, but then this happened a few hours ago:

I was on my way home on the bus around midnight. A guy who went off at the same bus stop as I did, asked me about my tote bag, which I had bought at the last Völkerball concert (Rammstein cover band.)

Just out of the blue he asked me: "Is that tote bag from a band or anything?"

Me: "It's Völkerball, a Rammstein coverband."

Him:" ah, Rammstein. Well, they are in the grey area, so I guess that's still okay."

He wanted to walk away, but I wouldn't let him off the hook that easily:" Well, I guess "grey area" is debatable. Their lyrics are not about white surpremacy or anything. I personally don't listen to to Boese Onkelz or Freiwild because they are way too fascist." HIm: "Well, I've never really listened to them or looked up their lyrics, so I wouldn't know."

We ended up discussing it for a bit, and well, he just thought Rammstein was a possible nazi band, without having ever looked into them that much. Also, he thought I was a possible nazi because the emblem on my bag and the word "Völker" (can be roughly translated as nations) was enough for him (even though Völkerball literally means dodge ball.) I'm glad he asked, though. I just wish people would let go of these prejudices and not think I'm a f****** nazi all the time *sigh*

  12. I just talked about this topic with a friend of mine, and found this old thread, so here we go:

1.) Do you feel that the Japanese culture views this imagery differently from how Occidental cultures do?

Yes, definitely. They don't seem to have much of a problem with it, really.

2.) Are you personally offended by it?

I'm not really offended by it, but only because I've seen it two many times. I know a lot of other people, though, who are/would be VERY offended. When I tell ppl about nazi imagery in VK bands they usually do not quite believe me (or they don't even want to see it because they think it's so horrible.) Most would see it as a reason to stop listening to a band alltogether, no matter their intentions.

3.) Do you feel it is done to convey the same messages as 1930's and 40's political propaganda? Or is it more of an edgy thing that is much less frowned upon in that culture than it is for Western fans?

I'm very sure there is no underlying political agenda (if I tought there was, I would be veeery offended.) I think they mostly lack education on the topic and, yes, they definitely want to be edgy by using the crimes of nazi Germany for shock value, which is upsetting on so many levels.

4.) What's your opinions on using other WWII imagery, be it based on the Nazi party or not? (Example: Malice Mizer waving the flag of the old empire during shows to tell a story from the view point of a Japanese soldier, the use of old WWII uniforms as costumes, etc)

I'm, understandably, not a fan. Fetishising nazi uniforms, or using nazi culture as a fashion statement is a product of pure ignorance for the pain that many people suffered. Japan was part of World War II- why are these people (who don't share the believes of neo-nazis) using nazi symbols as if they meant nothing? The probable answer is that they a ) don't think about it and b ) that they are pretty much desensiized because in their culture, it's not that big of an issue. I blame these people for putting no thought into what they are wearing (and what they are unconsciously promoting) , but I blame the system for these peoples' lack of education on the topic.

Apparently they're allowed to not pay us holidays for leaving work early the previous shift. :/ It's somewhere in the contract and company policies.

And thanks! I'm feeling better, just very groggy and a constant headache. I spent most of the weekend asleep.

Ehm, wow. I'm 99 % sure that is not allowed over here (that doesn't maen that companies don't try, also nearly once happened to a friend of mine.) I'm really sorry this happened to you. Please accept this (slightly awkward) virtual hug! ; )

  14. @jiji94: I hope you're feeling better! Are there laws in your country for paid holidays? That really sucks. They fucking HAVE to pay you.

I have a stalker right now. She breaks into a room in the house in the middle of the night and waits for me to leave my room and  then watches me using the toilet. I sometimes let her sleep in my bed (and that can be tiresome because she wants direct body contact the whole time), but she's not allowed to go through my underwear drawer (although she really wanted to.)

Don't worry, it's just our adorable neighbours' cat. She's sleeping next to me on the couch right now.

  15. Toshiya: looks the same as always

Die: fabulous hair, but THAT scarf.

    Kyo: ...I don't...what...his hair and....just everything.

Kaoru: saw pics of his new hair on tumblr a few days ago already, and the term "mid life crisis" also came to mind...he had beautful hair. Why. Just why.

    Shinya: same old, same old

  16. Me: I'm totally over my crush that I had on Kyo during my teenage years! I can finally SOLELY focus on Dir en Grey's music! I'm an adult, I'm-

*sees pics of Kyo wearing a Kimono with his natural black hair colour and no makeup*

    Me: Well fuck.

  17. From what I've seen from live DVDs, I always felt like the atmosphere at japanese concerts was in a way similar to those of a football stadium in Europe...haha! Everyone is doing the same movements, chanting together. On the one hand, it's pretty cool because japanese fans seem to support their bands and are great at dancing or chanting along, taking the cues from the band members. On the other hand, however, I always felt that this concert culture restricts fans in a certain way. Why not dance or headbang  however and whenever you I want? Going with the crowd can be electrifying, but at the same time I feel like experiencing music in your own way is freeing af.

What do you think? I mean, I cannot speak from experience, so I'd like to know what you guys prefer/leaning towards to.

Thanks for the encouraging words ^^ My first week there is almost over and I think most of the people there have been very nice and easy to talk to. I'm still a little lost with how everything there works, what I'm supposed to do and where to go but hopefully I'll learn all that quickly, too. Beginnings are always hard, haha.

(I'd like to correct though that I'm not actually studying science, university of applied sciences is just the name of the school/institution or whatever, it's a bit different from an actual university. The whole education system here is just so weird compared to other countries so these translations and all are often a bit misleading and hard to explain... I'm actually studying Business IT there. ^^)

Upps, sorry. I actually do know what an university of applied science is, but I was just very tired when I wrote my post....I can actually guess what country you're from ;) But Business IT is great as well! you go! :D

Oh, and don't worry about all the things that you don't know yet. I needed around two or three semesters to finally get settled into university life. At the beginning, it's confusing, not knowing where certain libraries or offices are, but there was always someone around to help.

I'm glad you've enjoyed it so far!
