After a few years of borderline radio-friendly stagnation, Girugamesh have hit back with quite possibly their best release yet. Last year's Monster symbolised a beacon of hope for both fans and the band. The aggression was back, the heaviness was back, Girugamesh was back. Although steeped in pop-sensibilities at times, the album took a 180 from pop to electronic metalcore, leaving the burning wrecks of Now and Go far behind.

It's been a year since their last full-length Monster, and Gravitation not only keeps this reclaimed heaviness in place but polishes it to perfection. Kicking off with their hardest song to date, 'Go Ahead' lures you in with gentle tones before ripping your head off. Satoshi's transition from gentle crooning to terrifying growls, for example, are nothing short of frisson worthy. Having the rawest vocals, the hardest breakdown, and the most memorable chorus, this song characterises the EP and spearheads their new sound. As a song that can only be described with superlatives, 'Go Ahead' highlights how Gravitation has led the band to a new level of heaviness. This permeates throughout the EP. While 'Reflection' displays a hard metalcore influence, for instance, 'Vortex' goes beyond that, opting for a thrashy deathcore vibe; a massive departure from Go in many respects.

I thought it would let up at some point but the whole EP is like this; every time a lull in the intensity is expected, it continues its bombardment of chunky riffs and pleasantly incessant drumming. This is exemplified best in 'Reflection' where Satoshi tries to do some severe damage to his throat...in the best possible way. They could have included a slower, gentler track to give the listener a breather, but instead they opted for five heavy songs varying in loudness and intensity. The infectious electronic elements and catchy vocals which have characterised their more recent efforts are used to full effect here, modernising their previous sound and making each track as memorable as the last. All of these elements culminate in 'Vortex' which, replete with screams, riff-heavy guitar work and double-bass pedaling, is the best way to end Gravitation: in the same loud and exciting way in which it started, exuding a confidence not found on their older material. This is the Girugamesh we wanted after Music and the band sure as hell knows it.
 
By cramming everything their fans love about them into one neat package, Girugamesh has created their best effort yet. Contrary to more recent releases, the intensity and loudness of their old sound is back and better than ever. While taking a new form reflective of some current "-core" genres, classic Girugamesh permeates to the point where they might win their older fanbase back.

Upon listening to Gravitation it's clear that Girugamesh are back and louder, heavier and better than ever!

I started off playing woodwinds in school band, and eventually started to explore other options, teaching myself saxophone during my junior year of high school when I became drum major of the school band. I also took AP Music Theory my Junior year, which is when I picked up piano more seriously since it was a good base instrument to know to branch out to almost anything. I didn't pick up guitar seriously until after I graduated, though that is nothing more than a hobby that has been neglected and is now collecting dust on the back burner. I've played other instruments, but not enough to confidently say I PLAY them on a regular basis. I'd like to pick up drums again.

As some of you may have noticed I've been posting here and there. Can't say I'm super back for sure. I have just been so busy.

Not that anyone would probably care too much, but I started a new job with a two hour commute to and from work. I'm physically and mentally exhausted from the drive. Working 8 hours and driving up to 4 hours a day doesn't really leave much time for yourself other than eating, maybe a movie or laundry, shower and sleep. 

My free times are really on my weekends, which i'm privileged enough to have Saturday and Sunday off now. Considering that soon my siblings will start school and they already don't live with me, I have been using those weekends to really spend time with family and relax. I'm hoping that once I relocate closer to my new job that I will have more time for myself to interact with this forum again. 

I really do miss the chat, and late night plug sessions, but unfortunately when I get home I just want to sleep by then or play a quick hour of FFXIV >___> which if any of you play that please let me know what server you're on if it's an NA server. I'm specifically on Lamia (NA)

Looks like I had an OS problem... If I had formatted my computer on time none of this would've happened probably. But I'm a dummy when it comes to this stuff I should know better now.

You can actually disable a lot of those touch screen centric features in win8 i believe.

I'm not too well versed when it comes to the whole copyright mumbojumbo on radio, but that podcast that's always featured over at jpopsuki seems to feature majorly popular Japanese artists like Perfume and Ayumi Hamasaki without repercussions. Don't think they have the actual budget to acquire a permit for airing that. What I've noticed though is that they feature the music only during the live stream. The actual recording viewable afterwards only has the talky bits left in and the music cut out. Maybe that is an questionable option for making this work after all!?

I love this band. Although some releases are kind of bad.  But I love the cheesy synths lol.  I don't mind the auto tune that much.  I was a big fan of Vidoll and love Rame.  I like how they have a somewhat original sound compared to most visual kei bands.  And Ice's voice is really nice.

I'm still pretty new to them but I think they're fun to listen to, even if at times they sound way too much like Vocaloid music and their visuals scream cosplay I also really like Ice's voice, which is why I started listening to them.

So I happened to come across this thing today.

 
I think it's a lot better than the release previous to this one. I know many people probably look at BFN as some kind of joke because of the cheesy synths and the hella auto tune on Ice's voice sometimes. Rame, Ice and Toki having come from well known bands in the past, this is probably a very different project that people may not exactly prefer.

I personally dislike over use of auto tune most of the time when it's clearly used to AUTO TUNE BAD SINGING. Considering BFNs theme and the kind of music they claim to aim for I think the auto tune they tend to use sometimes (often) is acceptable. From live videos I have seen, it seems it's difficult for them to perform such a strong electronically inspired sound. Regardless i think this band is really fun, and while they're not technical, they're very very enjoyable.

I got a tablet less than a year ago and I mean i've doodled some things on it but never really finished anything or even went to the extents of shading and coloring, so please forgive me for the terrible shading and what not (although it's probably more of my lack in the arts department more so than my knowledge of tablet efforts)

Their look is reassuring to me, the gas mask look is cool but I was relieved to see they aren't shying away from VK. The outfits with the gas masks could come across as... Generic core kids..
Tenten's lyrics in the past have covered the usual themes in VK of identity, mental health, drugs and struggles within society in general, politics included. The MBHI lyrics that have been translated so far are solid , I'd really like to see more of the debut release translated.
Also damn I WISH they had the budget to make something like Obscure...

They can do whatever look they want. I don't care if they dressed up as bald old men in caterpillar outfits... I'm shamelessly biased towards Tentens voice and the members from SKULL.... so just keep making music MBHI and explore your sound, and I'll be happy.

xDDDDDD "bald men in caterpillar outfits" that would be so awesome. I love their sound but i'm still in the "ehhh" zone about MBHI. I'm waiting for them to release my head's bursting open call a doctor. The preview sounds amazing. imo of course.
