i guess hiroto's started a youtube channel and will be posting drumming videos? i'm all for it, especially if we get more snippets of songs like LOVER that have only been played live (although it's pretty hard to pick up on the rest of the song when the video's focused on the drums...)

It was announced at DADAROMA 2nd Anniversary One Man Tour Final 「造花とカラシニコフ」 (1/14) that they will release their 3rd mini-album '「dadaism♯3」' on April 19.

Pictures on Twitter but I'm too lazy to copy them. If anyone has the setlist from tonight I'd love to see it.

Is it me or Shou couldn't really hit the right notes in early Alice Nine? He sounds so... out of tune...

JamesR got a reaction from Kaleidoscope in What is the perfect album length for you?
For me, 40 minutes is the optimal length. Many death metal masterpieces clock at 35 minutes or less(Atheist's Unquestionable Presence, Deicide's Legion and Entombed's Wolverine Blues come to mind) and I find it somewhat frustrating. 45-60 minutes is still ok in my book, but it's extremely hard for a band to deliver one hour of consistently good music...

Am I the only one happy with the recent influx of 'br00tal' VK bands like Nokubura, Fixer, Jiluka, D.I.D., by:Arlant, Deviloof, Scarlet Horizon and(to a lesser extent) Dezert and Damy? Is nu-metal influenced -core  the next trend?

like i had very hy hopes for them but this sounded pretty boring! >.>''
also even that sound effects sounded not really addicting at all - there are/were many electrocore Vk bands with much better/more addicting electronics...

My vote goes to Aicle. They took the oshare sound championed by the likes of Lolita23q and ramped up the technicality to levels rarely seen in "pop rock" or whatever genre you might think they are. Maybe we can consider Dog In The PWO as spiritual sucessors of their sound, but it certainly isn't the same. Come on, just listen to this math-y rock clusterfuck and try to tell me it isn't perfect:

    Very easy : First wave.
Although I'm much into the early bands (BUCK-TICK, BY:SEXUAL, AUTO-MOD etc.), the first wave is the one that's got the bulk of bands I like (Kuroyume, Malice Mizer, Plastic Tree etc).
Also, little note, I've seen all these bands play live since I was in Tokyo during the first wave.
PS: Kuro Yume Live at La-Miss Ration 1994. Shot by me.

JamesR reacted to TheStoic in Google trends showing the decline of visual kei
To me, the popularity of post-hardcore and screamo music with younger audiences also peaked in that same '09 time, which, stylistically, V-Kei shared sonic similarities with.  Not to mention American festival runs were featuring Japanese bands (like family values with Dir en grey, a Taste of Chaos with Mucc/D'espairsRay, etc.) to build the Japanese music exposure with artists that shared their sound with.

... but then came the EDM and Dance-pop wave that took the wind right out of the sails of rock popularity.  Now you have metal artists pushing more electronics into their sound to try to bridge that gap, and it is just not keeping people interested in the genre.

I think the decline of V-Kei has more to do with the decline of Rock in the face of dance-pop and EDM than it specifically does with just the niche of V-Kei.  I mean, you have people also jumping on the K-Pop bandwagon now more than ever, showcasing the popularity of embracing Dance-pop/EDM sonic sound that is "so hot right now" with the kidz of today.  Rock and metal festivals are also struggling in the U.S. to stay afloat, so it shows that right now, there is no money in promoting the genre.  As a result, less people are exposed to rock-oriented groups that typically would not seek them out, and you have decline.

Luckily the internet is alive and well and people have many resources to search for music; The responsibility is now on people like us to bring V-Kei, J-Rock, and guitar centered music to the younger group of impressionable listeners that are more interested in mumble-rap and EDM divas today.

Those are just my thoughts.  This is an interesting topic!

I think it all boils down to Sho and Akane, looks like they've been friends for a long-ass time and I think even if the band dissolves, they'll just form a new one under some other name
Btw, S.K.P. and The Resolution re-recordings are like a thousand times better than the old ones

Jiluka, D.I.D. and Fixer are the holy trinity of VK metalcore

I think this particular battle might be too close to call - I enjoy the atmospheric/DeG moments in Fixer's sound as much as I like the vicious djenting and breakdowns of Jiluka, but since Divine Error is still fresh in my mind(killer track!), my vote goes for Jiluka.
