Pandabear 414 Posted June 20, 2011 yeah I'm not to certain about the genres, but basically this thread is for discussing electronic music.I know these songs are really mainstream but stuff Like this:Alice Deejay- Better off Alone http://youtu.be/0dBu5X3TvNwMelanie C - I Turn To You ATC - It Goes Around The World Ian van Dahl - Castles in the sky I realized I really like songs like these but only know a few artists or groups. Can anyone recommend some good artist or albums?
Guest Posted June 20, 2011 Can we discuss other types of electronica in this thread, or is it only mean for electropop, techno and dance?
Pandabear 414 Posted June 20, 2011 ^ Any type. I just mentioned those because those are the ones I'm familiar with.
Guest Posted June 20, 2011 Nice! I'll post some stuff that I love then: Kraftwerk - The Model MHHv4u8Vomw Clubroot - Low Pressure Zone VYi56l0r0co Apoptygma Berzerk - Electricity IF0pYABBoEU Carl Sagan's Ghost - Take a Moment E7IRHIO0Y8 Ildjarn - Daybreak i1u0C8KzR4c Burzum - Tomhet Ks14KaZ6NT8 And, I guess most of you guys have heard of Burzum. Tomhet is the ending song of a black metal album. He also released a couple of ambient albums while being in jail. And as for Ildjarn, probably THE rawest and ugliest black metal band ever. But released a few ambient albums as well.
Prism 8 Posted June 20, 2011 PzspqDXmoYY Probably my favourite piece of space ambience. Album is AMAZING as it is but I wish the guy would make a full album of this stuff.
lukrecia 22 Posted June 21, 2011 I think first, I will also open my contribution with some tracks I like: (Shackleton + King Midas Sounds = AWESOMENESS.) nUQonOU38VE Jamie XX from The XX to collabrate with Gil Scott-Heron and rework his last album "I'm New Here"? Sounds odd, but it turned out to be surprisingly good - and NY Is Killing Me is one of the best songs from "We're New Here". W7c3wRzUUjs It was quite surprising, that Zomby has signed to 4AD, a label which focuses mostly on rock, because his music is quite far from rock'n'roll - Natalia's Song from his fresh new album, "Dedication" is a mixture of sexy r&b vocals, dark and Burial-like rhytms, and a bit of trance. Great music! tiyxPeuBf0M Burial + Four Tet = AWESOMENESS. I also like the two new tracks with Thom Yorke on vocals (Ego, Mirror), but this is the classis song from this duo. PdTbgx5ZXSk ...and a last one simply because we can't get enough of Flying Lotus. XKQVcJ_Zi9M
LIDL 692 Posted June 21, 2011 YAYE! A Topic made for my general taste! there is so many artists i like and genres too. As long as it connceted with electro and dance and shit, i am in. Recently i just found this talented people. Thanks too random download habit for trying something new. But actually not really, maybe i thanked more to Daft Punk whether or not they considered as dubstep artist. But, aside of deadmau5, I love me some IKONIKA and Unicorn Kid. IKONIKA: iz_IVmxKKdw r5af8whHy3M mvpgiiotL0U Unicorn Kid: doo1fVPu4c4 58Fwq4i4iwo jknlhDgzRDQ And some good Daft Punk: s9MszVE7aR4 _6Afc2uzw4g FGBhQbmPwH8 And agraph (which introduced by the great doaseternity ^__^v) : VqQGasPnaYo vGCnMGr-n0k Ahf08-J73ro Also another artists from another genre that i dig: Ladytron: 84_3CCqvljA Imogen Heap: Z9_S8nrdERY Basement Jaxxx: zO9I61gYlms La Roux Q0679vkxBhg Crystal Castles 5JqTDE66M_w Oh Man, i need to behave! Vurtox 3 Posted June 21, 2011 Neither of these are "Techno" "Dance" or "Electro-pop" but lately I've been listening to: http://www.symphonyofscience.com./index.html & http://www.colorpulsemusic.com/ Although on the topic of Electro-pop I do listen to Hurts (not the Japanese band,) somewhat religiously. lukrecia 22 Posted June 21, 2011 @Chianti: Sweet! Good to see, that I'm not the only one here, who likes Ikonika! Her debut album was one of last year's best dubstep releases, and it always reminds me of Mortal Kombat; songs like "Video Delays" are the best from "Contact, Love, Want, Have" - feels like I'm an autobot, haha! And Satanicpornocultshop is fun! (^o^)y
Prism 8 Posted June 21, 2011 Hurts are fucking amazing. The live version of Illuminated they recorded a video for floating around on youtube that I'm too lazy to go find is phenomenal.

Illuminated and Silver Lining are two of the GREATEST songs I've ever heard.
Cas 4 Posted June 21, 2011 Boards of Canada is probably my favorite electronic duo. I absolutely adore Geogaddi, though I believe that Music Has the Right to Children and The Campfire Headphase are generally the more preferred albums. Also, Portishead's Dummy is a fantastic album. Boards of Canada - Music Is Math F7bKe_Zgk4o Red Sun - 青いダダ Jdpk_VmksW0 睡蓮 - Spine 2CouFqK8sQQ Tim Hecker - In The Fog II HXEpMIFFvdQ&feature=related アーバンギャルド - 傷だらけのマリア 3ap-mKCDvuc Portishead - Roads WQYsGWh_vpE
lukrecia 22 Posted June 21, 2011 The new Tim Hecker is a bit weaker, compared to his earlier works imho. Still very good though, but his best album is still "Mirages", I think.
Kaye 296 Posted June 21, 2011 Melanie C - I Turn To You I realized I really like songs like these but only know a few artists or groups. Can anyone recommend some good artist or albums? Whoa, that's a while ago. Just remembered I still have her CD somewhere... Loved the song when it was released!
Pandabear 414 Posted June 21, 2011 Whoa. I got a lot bigger response than I was expecting. Already know stuff like Daft Punk, Ladytron, and crystal castles, who are awesome, but I'll be checking out everyone else's recommendation. And hurts.
Tony 1 Posted July 31, 2011 Cut Copy anyone? 8R1X2TxW5Rk and The Presets: CZe9YxJNs48 Two of my favourite Australian electronic bands, must check these out if you don't know of them.
Pandabear 414 Posted October 8, 2013 Reviving this thread from the dead and renaming it. Discussion for all types of electronic music. House, club, electro-pop, trance, techno, drum and bass, dub step, experimental, ambient, etc. It's been a couple of years and after getting to properly know this genre, I've become a huge electronic music fan. Recently I've been into stuff like Flux Pavillion. Who's probably my favorite dub-step artist right behind zomboy. Guy has great melody and danceable beats. Flux Pavillion - I Still Can't Stop Flux Pavillion - I Feel It Also love Trifonic. He mixes ambient-triphop-experimental-glitch together for some amazing stuff. Trifonic - Ninth Wave
Zeus 7997 Posted October 10, 2013 It's been a couple of years and after getting to properly know this genre, I've become a huge electronic music fan.Same case for me! But my tastes are a bit more minimal. I'm a fan of Aphex Twin, Swarms, Fugenn & the White Elephants. I'll leave a link for Aphex because he's by far my favorite electronic artist. He's also one of the most influential electronic artists of all time, so if you're looking for somewhere to start he's a good bet. His music is a bit...weird though. Pandabear 414 Posted October 12, 2013 ^ Nice. I've been meaning to check out aphex twins. And ever since Mirror's edge, I've become a huge solar fields fan. Introduction being one of my favorite tracks he's made period. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FviZW1BeGtU
Ikna 1225 Posted October 12, 2013 Surpised Depeche Mode haven't been mentioned. Yeah, i know they are pretty well known, but they have been the innovators for electronic New wave music and Synthpop, so I guess they should be mentioned here. And most of their disco is flawless 8except maybe the last album) Well... Clan of Xymox are a darkwave band and more in the whole electronic dark alternative music section (or electro goth, but I don't know if that's actually a real genre...) However, their 80s stuff is really wonderful atmospheric and ethereal synth wave.
Pandabear 414 Posted November 6, 2013 ^ Wow I really liked the Clan of Xymox stuff. I'll have to check out more of their material. Lately I've been more into instrumental stuff. Been looking for artists specifically from Japan and found a killer few. Recently discovered him. He does vocal stuff too, but I really like his clubby instrumentals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTnY6RRuzRw Progressive house with some hints of dubstep. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWVc9k7r3pI You can never go wrong with 80kidz. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wh2ciwXJGO4 There aren't many songs by aran I've been able to find, but from what I found, I like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lh5qy0BsmLo Not japanese, but I'm still on flux pavilion fix. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZS_2qH-pCSA
Pretsy 1343 Posted November 9, 2013 I have to post one of my "fresh" electro discoveries here too: Dimitri from Paris (yes yes, I like House/Downtempo-ish stuff, then what?) For odd but understandable reasons he is considered to represent "the western side" of Shibuya kei -style (what's that? VK-related stuff? No, google it), and that is noticeable in his porn music-ish/70's French club-ish sampled tunes with laid-down vibes. Even though he is in my list of "artists who shouldn't really have done songs for anime x etc.", I still adore his sense of what is "relaxing music" a la French way Audio therapy
nekkichi 6043 Posted November 10, 2013 can any of you nerds recommend me something close to ? I need a new working playlist, my current one is getting stale orz it doesn't need to be videogame music in particular, but I'm ok with that too. tyvm <
Pandabear 414 Posted November 11, 2013 ^ You need denkitribe. He uses a lot chiptune influence in his songs that have that videogame feel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQptaAovyIs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt-idiJGcNg Or how about some Dirty Androids? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iTHLmGeGvo Maybe some TyDi? Yoko Kanno may not me be an EM but this song is pretty awesome. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJVnX8EE3Q8 As is this one 1 nekkichi reacted to this
