plastic_rainbow 2162 Posted July 7, 2016 (edited) Since AvelCain will be officially disbanding very soon I decided that I'd translate some of their lyrics. As far as I know, the fuckyeahavelcain on tumblr are the only ones who have translated their lyrics so far. And if I'm gonna be honest, they're not exactly the best... Therefore, I bring you my own translations! Can't say that I'm that great at translating lyrics either, but I try to be faithful during my translations~ I will update this thread each time I translate more songs. So far I have translated three:囁/Sasayaki Spoiler English: Whispers The voice from that day, the words from that day Are buried into my brain and won't go away The wounds from that day, the sight from that day Are buried into my brain and won't go away Helplessly, I was scared of IT Helplessly, I was sad about IT Helplessly, I was hurt by IT Helplessly, I cannot do IT The dream from that day, the hope from that day Was dragged out from my brain 自責/Jiseki Spoiler English: Self-Condemnation Hey, I'm always thinking about you Oh, blind love Hey, so please don't ever Let go of me Oh, dependent love But, why Did I lose myself and hate myself You see, I don't have any confidence but I like you I'm sorry I'm sorry You must hate me, right? But I already know that It's painful and painful Don't leave me alone I can't stop crying Hey, someone like me Should die already Oh, emotional instability I want to die, save me Crushing my heart I hate myself You see, I still love you even now I'm sorry I'm sorry It's all my fault, right? But I already know that It's painful and painful If only you'd be here for me I can't stop crying Please listen to the end Never ever forget I don't want to be apart It's lonely and painful The truth is I want to be happy But it's probably useless... I'm sorry for being alive I wonder if there's a place where I belong If I could be reborn Oh, please let me be together with you forever 籠目歌ノ呪縛/Kagomeuta no jubaku Spoiler English: The Cursed Song of Kagome A far distant memory where a bird sings at dusk Unable to return to the time we played the song of Kagome[1] These feelings we left behind bind me In the emptiness where the absence of you only spreads I embellish it in red alone Let's meet again To the place where you liked I cannot reach you who is laughing inside a cage What hid away and revealed itself in the evening of dawn was my neck...[2] Goodbye -------------------------------Translation notes:[1] The song of Kagome is a reference to the chant sang in "Kagome Kagome", which is a Japanese children's game. See wiki for more info.[2] I had a bit of trouble translating this line because of the word 滲む(nijimu) which has various meanings. I initially thought that it meant "to blur", but it didn't make much sense in the translation so I then figured out that one other definition, "to reveal itself", made the most sense. With this translation it's easier to understand that Karma is referring to the swinging motion of himself hanging, where the neck hides and reveals itself in the shadows.edit: Thanks to hiroki for the suggestion, 滲む can also mean "to be soaked" (ex. in blood) which also works well in this context. In addition to this, 首(kubi) literally meaning "neck" can also mean "a decapitated head" or "cut off neck". Thus, if you put these together you also get the notion that what hid away and was soaked (in blood) was his cut off neck. ---------------- Quick links 蛇と姑獲鳥/Hebi to Ubume (The Snake and Ubume) [2013.02.20] 1. 蜷局/Toguro (Coil) 2. 蛇と姑獲鳥/Hebi to Ubume 3. 懺悔、寡黙ナル君ニ。/Zange, kamoku naru kimi ni 4. 籠目歌ノ呪縛/Kagomeuta no jubaku (see above) 自責の筵-じせきのむしろ-/Jiseki no mushiro (Seat of Self-Condemnation) [2013.09.04] 1. 囁/Sasayaki (see above) 2. 自責/Jiseki (see above) 3. 手首の切り方/Tekubi no kirikata 4. 赫い部屋/Akai heya 5. 揺り籠/Yurikago 6.DEVIL'S+SANCTUARY (2nd press, 2013.09.15) 6. 狐狗狸/Kokkuri (3rd press, 2013.12.26) 7. 花一匁/Hana ichimonme (4th press 2014.7.11) AvelCain-アベルカイン- [2014.04.02] 1. 贖罪/Shokuzai (Atonement) 2. 彩虜-あやとり-/Ayatori 3. plastic_rainbow 2162 Posted July 9, 2016 (edited) ^you're welcome!! new translations: 手首の切り方/Tekubi no kirikata Spoiler English: How To Cut Wrists Cut myself. Painful Please tell me the meaning of my life. My heart is so crushed. How to cut a wrist. The end of blood. Being alone I searched for the meaning of life, and wandering about I began to open my wrists Hate Cutting my wrists the pain that flows out is a very beautiful red color, I want to die Painful I want to erase my loathsome self and my dreadful memories completely, save me These feelings that cannot be expressed are overflowing Before my heart collapses Another me reflects onto my wrists Hate The pain that flows out continuously is a very filthy red, I want to die Painful Notice everything about the bandages stained in blood and my trembling voice, save me Let me take a painless overdose right now There is nothing meaningful like life within the wrists, but I continued cutting, I want to die With only the number of cuts, I hate myself With only the number of cuts, I want you to look at me, save me Just how many tears can heal the heart? Want to die. 赫い部屋/Akai heya Spoiler English: Red Room I FLEW PAINFULLY TO THE BEAUTIFUL WHITE WALL LOOK AT ME ALL BLOODSTAINED... I CRY SADLY AT MY PALE WRISTS THE CONCLUSION OF RED RED BLOOD... plastic_rainbow 2162 Posted July 13, 2016 (edited) new translations! 蛇と姑獲鳥/Hebi to Ubume Spoiler English: The Snake and Ubume[1] The moon is devoured fleetingly, and I think about you who I still haven't seen yet The midnight's silence and a beat inside the womb Darling The day is devoured sadly, and I sleep with you who I still haven't seen yet Hope was torn away I'll no longer be able to see you In the rustling sky of dawn, the silent shell is now buried with reason of tears and leftover distorted thoughts The pain of a coil crawling around the body are tears of regret I continued calling you Without clearing up the grudge here The sky dyed in dusk does not know sadness, an empty cradle waits for a baby in solitude I waited for you all along I will hold you, who is sobbing within this bosom, tightly in an eternal dream ------------------------Translation Notes:[1] Ubume is a type of yokai/ghost in Japanese folklore of a woman who died in childbirth. One translation of it includes "woman in late pregnancy". See wiki or this site for more info. The second link is especially informative and explains how when a pregnant woman dies she would be buried along with the unborn fetus still inside of her. Or other times the unborn fetus would be cut out of her and placed in her arms during burial. I think these two aspects of the story can parallel with the song. 御手紙/Otegami Spoiler English: Letter Beautifully[1] A burial dream heads towards consciousness These words are playing Beautifully[2] A burial dream heads towards consciousness These words are playing This very moment is already wounds of the past Without you counting them, or destroying them Even so now, they're deep wounds A notice of grief[3] sends your way The emotions I knew for the first time Were lovingness, as well as sadness Ah Does it not reach you? These words are withering away We're drifting away You're the first and last person That's why, see, I spelled out my beloved Beautifully A burial dream heads towards consciousness These words are playing Beautifully A burial dream heads towards consciousness These words are playing I'll write a final letter As I am waiting for a reply My tears well up As I have no address Does it not reach you? These words are withering away We're drifting away You're the first and last person That's why, see, I also spelled out grief only for you Dear You[4]. Please burn these piled up letters together with me to ashes. Yours truly ------------------------Translation Notes:[1] In this line karma sings 美しく(utsukushiku), but uses the kanji reading of 憂(u) to spell it out. The kanji 憂 can mean grief and melancholy, but I kept the literal "utsukushiku" meaning and translated it as "beautifully".[2] Same as [1], karma uses the kanji reading of 鬱(utsu) to spell out "utsukushiku". The kanji 鬱 means depression. Just a side note, but if you put 憂 and 鬱 together you get 憂鬱(yuutsu), which basically means depression, again. And this is why learning kanji can be a mess because there are so many out there that have similar meanings and so many that can be poetically used to spell out different words like karma did in these lyrics.[3] The word used here 哀(ai), meaning grief, is most likely a play on 愛(ai), meaning love, as they both have the same reading/pronunciation. karma uses these interchangeably in other areas of the song.[4] karma uses 様(sama) here, which adds politeness and elevates the status of the person directed. It is very difficult to translate or convey in English. 蛾/Ga Spoiler English: Moth Sinking into a vortex of obsession I kept you until you rotted and died Become more unhappy than me Unrequited love I was hated, I was hated I was hated, I want to disappear already I was hated, I was hated I was hated, I was hated Falling into a spiral of imperfection I crushed you to death left in thought Become more unhappy than me Unrequited love I was hated, I was hated I was hated, I want to disappear already I was hated, I was hated I was hated, I hate it I can't fly, I can't fly I don't want to see these kinds of wings That butterfly is flying beautifully I want to disappear "d" "i" "e" "I want to die." I inflict self-harm repeatedly everyday Let me be at ease and kill me now Become more unhappy than me Unrequited love Someone like me Someone like me I can't fly, I can't fly I don't want to see these kinds of wings That butterfly is flying beautifully Things will be what they will be If I could fly like that I would not have gone to the rooftop "d" "i" "e" "Die." -------------------Translation notes: Just my own thoughts, but I think the butterfly metaphorically refers to the speaker's unrequited love. And the speaker is the moth on the other hand. I say "speaker" because I read somewhere that karma's lyrics are written in the perspective of a girl, so these are not necessarily karma's own feelings. Also, the lyrics do not directly say "you" anywhere in the song, but I assume that the person the speaker felt hatred and jealousy towards was her "unrequited love", who was more perfect and beautiful than her and made her feel imperfect. plastic_rainbow 2162 Posted July 17, 2016 (edited) ^thanks! and sure, i'll get those done for you. was just about to go through their s/t album too~ i just finished these three new ones that i've been working on. will start working on them next. ^^ 懺悔、寡黙ナル君ニ…/Zange, kamoku naru kimi ni... Spoiler English: A Confession, To Silent You...I confess to silent you. I am sorry to have loved you. I look at you while hiding From the beginning to end I'm sorry that I love you All important things and everything breaks I'll repeat my sins now so that They can be counted The place and day where I met you And these feelings I couldn't suppress Will they become sins?I confess to silent you. I am sorry to have loved you. You probably don't know me anyway? A longing beautiful girl I'm sorry that I love you All beauty and everything rots I'll confirm the wounds on my body now so that They will increase Don't you need me for your own happiness? For my own happiness you... Have no answer 揺り籠/Yurikago Spoiler English: Cradle "The lily flowers which bloomed fleetingly, swayed gently and dispersed quickly" I can't remember the rest of the song That was interrupted among the seasons My memories of you that I've kept locked up from disappearing Don't take them away with you I waved my hand goodbye Because I lost the meaning to live I close my eyes to those happy days Look here, I'll come back very soon Goodnight It's a long journey blurred in tears I walk alone with my voice unable to reach you A vivid outcome of my life Flowed out in a haze Just a little more and my breath seems to tear apart, that's why I want to see you I waved my hand goodbye Because I lost the meaning to live I close my eyes to those happy days Look here, I'll come back very soon Goodnight (You gave me meaning to live No matter how much pain I was in, if I was with you I felt like I could overcome it No matter how painful our memories were, being with you was a precious time I won't be able to meet you anymore The lily flowers that you loved were too pretty) Sleeping and embracing in a cradle[1] Sleeping and dreaming in a cradle I waved a hand goodbye Because I lost the meaning to live "The lily flowers gathered at the end of my fallen self-condemnation" I won't cry anymore Because there's you Only you Are the one I love ----------------------Translation Notes: The sections in parentheses indicates the spoken section of the song. It was not included in the original lyrics so I transcribed them by ear and added them.[1] In this line karma uses wordplay and writes out 揺り籠(yurikago), meaning "cradle", with the word for "lily" 百合(yuri), which then looks like 百合籠. I decided to keep the literal meaning and translated it as "cradle". 花一匁/Hana Ichi Monme Spoiler English: Hana Ichi Monme Come, let's hold each others hands Echoing voices run through the schoolyard after school Is there someone left out? Our school uniforms become stained in red The teacher pretends not to notice We threw away our youth in desertion It was life and deathWe want that kid We don't understand which kid you mean Let's talk about it Yes, lets We've decided on that kid Hana Ichi Monme Humming all alone A light rain reflects beautifully in the sunset on the way home Hana Ichi Monme I can't say it to anyone I yearned for that flower "A frail flower that was harassingly stepped on" Our rivalry gave birth to hunger Our hunger gave birth to rivalry We'll be chosen by the outsider But who will be given up?We want that kid We don't understand which kid you mean Let's talk about it Yes, lets We've decided on that kidWe're so happy we won, Hana Ichi Monme We're so upset we lost, Hana Ichi Monme That kid is in a cage Hana Ichi Monme If we let go of this hand We won't be able to see each other ever again I knew, but I couldn't say it Hana Ichi Monme If we look back now It will be extremely sad "An infant flower that was taken away" -------------------------Translation Notes:Hana Ichi Monme is a Japanese children's game somewhat similar to the game Red Rover played in the West. The literal translation means "a flower is one monme", in which a monme is a Japanese historical coin. In the game a group is split into two teams and both teams face each other in a parallel line. The children also sing a song as one team steps forward and the other steps backward, and vice versa. Lines from that song have been used in the lyrics and I put them in italics. This explains very well why bangyas at live shows hold each others hands and step forward and backward during parts when they sing "we want that kid". plastic_rainbow 2162 Posted July 26, 2016 (edited) Really glad that you guys are enjoying these! Thanks for the comments~ In just a day or two, AvelCain will disband very shortly. Still, I'll continue to go through the rest of their discography. ^^ new: 蘇-よみがえり-/Yomigaeri Spoiler English: ResurrectionDeath and rebirth. A much too heavy disregard of life A much too cruel revelation of fate Revive revive, ancient black magic Revive revive, an unforeseen miscalculation Revive revive, a forbidden price Revive revive Everyone dreams so and thinks of someone faraway Please somehow, let me say I love you, even though you're gone now I just simply want to see you So I committed a sin My only reason was because I want to see you In this world I was given Only one thing An existence[1] which should never be revived Revive revive, the definition of human Revive revive, a soul that doesn't return Revive revive, a temporary vessel Revive revive Everyone experiences death so and knows sadness Please somehow, let me say I love you, even though you're gone now The moonlit night was beautiful Do you still remember even now? We looked up at the midwinter constellation together It's time to say farewell soon On that day, and at that place I want to look up at the "moon" togetherAll death and rebirth. ------------------------------Translations notes:[1] Here karma wrote 存在(sonzai) which means "existence", but he sings もの(mono), which can mean person or thing. Just a slight nuance in words. 彩虜-あやとり-/Ayatori Spoiler English: Cat's Cradle[1] When I was a child I played alone Tying strings, into a cat's cradle "Stop it, it hurts." "I'll listen to what you say." "Please forgive me." "Dad, mom..." After dragging out a red color in a daze, the two remained hanging their heads in shame Tying intestines, into a cat's cradle Up until now I've done it very well, so "Dad, mom, please praise me." I hid the bruises I hid the wounds I hid them both in the dirt Everyday came with hiding my guilty past I have no place to return to with these feelings running down the cheek Since then, no matter how much I search, I cannot find them I want to be loved once In a dream that won't come true The stench of corpse entangles my slender fingers I repeat every time I'm choking in sobs "I'm sorry." -----------------------------Translation notes:[1] The song title is written with different kanji meanings to spell out あやとり(ayatori), which means "cat's cradle". The first kanji 彩(read as "aya") means "color". The second kanji 虜(read as "tori") means "prisoner". So the title can also mean something like a "color prisoner, prisoner of color", but I'm sure "color" refers to the "red color" as mentioned in the lyrics. My interpretation is that the person is a prisoner who is colored in red from their guilty past. PSYCHO-サイコ- Spoiler English: PSYCHO ("Hey, I know you're there. Hey?") "I'm back"PSYCHOPASS Swaying and swaying, swaying slowly I found the red string When you've cut your hair When you wake up in the morning When you're on your period[1] I know everything Hey, why am I Hey, so in love Hey, with you I've always been thinking ("I love you") Round and round, turning round and round With this red string you can't go away Stabbing and stabbing, stabbing deeply Your color bleeds You're so lovely it's painful It's so unbearably painful I won't let go of your body Let's be together Ah, I will Ah, make you happy Ah, after all I am The only one fit for you You're gazing at me With your eyes fixed I'll cut you off I love you You're mine only The end of the string is cold ----------------------------Translation notes: Spoken phrases that were not included in the original lyrics are placed in parentheses.[1] In this line karma writes about 女の子の日(onnanoko no hi), which literally means "girl's day". It's an indirect way of saying a girl's "period". Also, here's the interview I read where karma mentions how most of his lyrics are written in the girl's perspective, but not all. The link was also posted somewhere in the AvelCain thread sometime before. plastic_rainbow 2162 Posted August 25, 2016 (edited) i've slowed down quite a bit, but i'm back and finished up @AliceParanoid's request~ 月蝕/Gesshoku Spoiler English: Lunar Eclipse Dimly and transiently in the night sky I looked up at I slowly traced the dwindling light In the dripping blood from my torn wrist The hidden pain doesn't stop overflowing It falls apart Enough for me to feel Even so, I will not Forget you I cry at the lonely obscuring lunar eclipse, and my piled up wounds Turn this way I'm right here Look, our hearts, our bodies, and our trailing memories are studded[1] in pieces tonight Farewell The tomorrow That you wish for, surely I'll be gone At least let me sleep The moonlight gently illuminates me But I can't go back to those days If I had not known you If I had not existed Would things have been better? I can't express it very well Goodbye I'm sorry Please Kill me ------------------------------Translation Notes:[1] Karma uses wordplay again and writes the word with the kanji for blood "血"(chi). 鋏/Hasami Spoiler English: Scissors In the locked room is cruelty Connecting diagonal lines Conversion with pain It will be tested Body is restrained Licking the cold floor Fulfilling the lethal dose Smearing with blood Is it cut? plastic_rainbow 2162 Posted September 15, 2016 (edited) two new translations: 操り人形/Ayatsuri ningyou Spoiler English: Marionette "This is a story of a girl. She hated herself." Ugly ugly ugly ugly Ah, breath a sigh "One day the girl was troubled. She blamed herself." Self-hatred self-hatred self-hatred self-hatred Ah, break the mirror "One day the girl realized something. That she was lesser than that girl." Unclear unclear unclear unclear Ah, tears are pouring Each and every girl is cute Each and every girl is laughing I became jealous of each and every girl "She was turned into a doll." Look at me only dancing in sweetness See, I'm the loveliest My forced smiles also become better Because I'm still alright "One day the doll was troubled. She resented herself." Painful painful painful painful Ah, the strings entwine "One day the doll realized something. That she was dancing in a cage." Mad death mad death mad death mad death Ah, hang myself Since he and he only is at fault He and he only cannot be forgiven I was tricked by him and him only "The doll played a tragedy." Dream of me dancing freely Here, cut the strings I can't dance, I can't go back, I have no task Before long, I'll be thrown away like garbage 嘘つき/Usotsuki Spoiler English: LiarLie Ah FINGER CUT-OFF, TEN THOUSAND FIST-PUNCHINGS WHOEVER LIES HAS TO SWALLOW THOUSAND NEEDLES[1] Finger cut-off I swear to you I truly truly like you Finger cut-off My feelings Are not lies "Hey, do you believe me?" We're playmates after all But I fell in love Because I can't give you up Finger cut-off Dedicated to you Inexpressible with words Finger cut-off If you can feel My love More than anyone else You More than anyone else For you I'll leave behind my left pinky Despairingly[2] "Hey, it's the shape of love." --------------------------------Translation notes:[1] These two lines written in caps lock is a set phrase said mainly by children when they make a pinky promise. It's basically said as a vow to not break a promise or otherwise there will be a punishment. I used the translation found at Wikipedia.[2] Translated from 思い切り(omoikiri). This word can be translated in various ways, which made it quite difficult for me. It can have a positive meaning like "with all one's might/heart's content" or a more negative meaning like "resignation". I took it as the negative meaning since Karma writes about leaving behind his left pinky (I'm not sure why the left pinky though since it's usually the right hand that is used), and in Japan back then the one who broke a promise would have to cut off their finger. However, the translation "resignation" didn't seem to fit well with the lyrics so I came up with the translation "despairingly", which I think was meant in this context and can still hold some of the same meaning. *i changed the format of my posts so that it would be more appropriate as a thread.
