So I found this song and watched the movie right away. Had I known that this movie had a good soundtrack I may have checked it out earlier. As for the movie itself, it had it's fun, thriller, and sad moments. I'm not too familiar with zombie-apocalyptic movies, but I'm glad that this movie is not the kind where a bunch of idiots do something dumb to get themselves killed. I am mostly left impressed by the buildup of the scenes and the soundtrack that goes along with it. Nice film~

Big Bad Wolves  - Now, I'll be honest: this film is as much thriller and black-comedy as it is horror, but I till feels it fits this thread. Tarantino named this his best film of 2013, and he's not too far off. Dark, exciting, thrillign and at times morbidly funny. Big Bad Wolves has all the ingredients for a classic, and they treat all these ingredients so well we got an instant classic. This film is very dark, morbid and twisted, and it all works so well, topped off with ome pitch black humour that got me bursting out in laughter several times. Brilliant. Totally recommended!

 

At times it feels very Tarantino-esque as well, which is something I like with me being a Tarantino fanboy and all.

I haven't seen it yet, but I am very keen on seeing it. And from what I remember it's supossed to be the first Israeli horror film ever, right? That alone is a fact to make people interested.

13 Sins - Black horror comedy that started out really well, but that just didn't manage to keep my attention for all the 90 minutes it lasted. It's a bit like Saw to be honest, but without the torture porn and with plenty dark, twisted comedy thrown into the mix. It's alright, but it's never more than just OK. My main problem here is that it doesn't go far enough to shock. It isn't bald enough. Shame, as the concept is really cool.

 

 

The film is a remake of the thai horror 13 Beloved, and I really want that. It's supossed to be fantastic and much better, so I am looking forward to it.

Been rewatching/watching a bunch of stuff in the past week. So far I've re-watched The Evil Dead 2 and Return of the Living Dead for like the 4th or 5th time, and Tucker & Dale vs Evil for the 2nd time.

 

Also watched Child's Play 2 and What We Do In The Shadows... Both were fun. In fact, i'd say the latter is one of the best and most entertaining recent movies I've seen in a long, long time.. Wish there were more like it.

Afflicted - Derek Lee and Cliff Prowse directed, wrote and stars this film as two friends, Derek Lee and Cliff Prowse, who goes out on a trip with a goal to document it all. It's a nice enough touch to the found footage genre and it feels fresh without really offering anything new or anything. Fairly straight-forwad and predictable, but very cool. Low-budget on.  What makes it stand out a bit is the tone which is a lot different from the usual.

 

I don't think it's excellent, but it sure is worth a look. I liked it!

 

 

Triangle - Really cool psychologial horror flick that twists, turns and makes you ask a lot of questions throughout the film. It's interesting and tense, and Melissa George's performance is very, very good. Honest and emotional. I'm not sure if I can say anything more without spoiling it, and I really don't want to spoil it. Just check it out, guys!

 

I can see this film gaining a cult following sometime soon. It sure does deserve it.

The Houses October Built - Cool enough found footage horror celebrating the haunt houses trends in america during october. There's a serious lack of atmosphere and at times it's (I think at least) unintentionally funny, but it's entertaining. I bought the actors' performances, but the lack of atmosphere is disturbing, and they don't take it far enough. It gets awfully predictable and I wish we'd actually see some extreme haunt houses. Some houses where you are in actual danger. But it's OK+ for what it is.

Banshee Chapter - Found footage horror loosely based on H.P Lovecraft's "From Beyond", as well as the loose H.P Lovecraft adaption "From Beyond", mixed with the history of hallucinogenic drug experiments done in america. A completely different film than From Beyond in most ways, but there's some similarity, and it was a very good one IMO. Very simple and straight-forward, but super effective and atmospheric. I was really impressed with Katia Winter who's the driving force in the film. Super impressed with her.

 

It does feature what I would call cheap jump scares, but they're well done and doesn't take away any of the atmosphere. So I didn't mind them at all.

 

 

The Bay - Cool found footage "eco-horror" that did the trick, but without ever reaching the hights it so easily could've reached. It's very creepy and pretty effective at times, but a bit uneven. But when it works, it really does work. Some truly great special effects and lots of fun.

 

 

The Mist - Dark, tense and eerie horror film that'll make think a bit about some things. I think the film is 15-20 minutes too long, but the cast is great, the atmosphere better and the plot even better. The monsters looked a bit weird at times, but there was one shot that was incredible and H.P Lovecraft worthy. Looked very Lovecraft-inspired, and the shot itself makes the film worth a look. I liked how the people in this film so easily was divided and shit. Very cool.

 

I thought the ending was superb. So dark, dramatic and intense, man. Jesus.

Has anyone watched "Megan is Missing"? The movie is beyond mediocre, but I have to applaud the filmmakers decisions on the last part of the movie. They didn't held back.

Insidious 3: Weakest chapter out of the 3, for sure. Still entertaining to watch, but.. why so many jumpscares, bro? I mean, the previous parts had them too, but this one felt like it was just ALL jumpscares. Oh, and that old lady vs old lady/man ghost fight near the end was just ridiculously cheesy, I actually cringed a little... That scene with the lung cancer ghost moving through the girl's room while she's lying helpless on the floor was damn good though.

It looks almost like you copied my post about the film, beause I had the EXACT same complaints. The ladyfight was so out of character and even more out of place. It awful! It was made by a rookie director and all, but his budget was twice what James Wan's budget for Insidious: Chapter 2. Should've done better.

Yeah, seriously, it felt like some sort of goofy Marvel superhero movie-type one liner or something.. It's a shame, really. Oh, and that final jumpscare at the end was also sort of.... lame. I just can't take Chinese Bootleg Darth Maul seriously...

 

The Taking of Deborah Logan: Now that's more like it! I don't know why, but I have a weakness for that ''faux documentary'' feel. Noroi, Grave Encounters, The Conspiracy, Man Bites Dog... Okay, that last one isn't really a horror movie, but still. Heck yeah. This one was good too. Solid acting, sympathetic characters, pretty nice build-up to the finale.. And the alzheimer angle was interesting.

I also watched The Taking of Deborah Logan. Was supossed to watch it last weekend, but didn't have the time and had to wait til this weekend because my girlfriend wanted to watch it too.

 

I am also a fan of the found footage/faux docuentary-style horror genre. A genre that's got a lot of undeserved criticism because it's such a "simple" genre, and suddenly "everyone" just picked up a camera, filmed some shit and got it released no matter how god-fucking-awful it was.

 

The Taking of Deborah Logan - Like Tokage said, nice, likeable characters, great atmosphere all over. Nothing not to enjoy here. Great film!

 

The scene where the guy takes a look at the pictures were so god damn effective. So simple, yet so effective and bone-chilling.

 

 

 

 

Will watch some more films like this later. The Den, Willow Creek, The Tunnel and more. Fun genre!

I saw both Lake Mungo and Behind The Mask already, enjoyed both, although I liked Behind The Mask more than Lake Mungo. Lake Mungo had a pretty good atmosphere, though.. I've got The Sacramant sitting around on my HD as well, probably gonna watch it tonight.

 

Yesterday I watched The Lost Boys... Goddamn, this movie just goes into MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE with the '80s atmosphere. The soundtrack, fashion style, everything. To be completely honest, it didn't really feel much like a horror movie to me at all, despite the whole ''oh no, vampires'' thing. It just felt so.. silly at times. Especially that worms/spaghetti scene which was referenced in What We Do In The Shadows as well. Still, I did have fun watching it. Also, that The Doors cover by Echo & The Bunnymen is pretty badass.

I agree about Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon being better. Unique and absolutely fantastic film. I love the film! T

 

he Sacrament was a huge disappointment to most people, also me as I consider Ti West's The House of the Devil to be one of my all-time favorutie horror movies and I absolutely adore The Innkeepers as well, but I liked The Sacrament quite a lot anyway. Thrilling stuff despite its flaws.

So I watched The Sacrament, and to be honest it's probably my favorite out of all of Ti West's works I've seen so far. I do have to admit i've only watched The Roost and his segment in V/H/S before, but still..The film has a pretty creepy atmosphere, especially considering the story is apparently heavily based on real-life events. Actually didn't know that it was based on the Jonestown massacre while watching it, believe it or not. I sort of half-expected some sort of paranormal twist to pop up near the end, something like that cult segment from V/H/S 2, but that didn't happen... Despite that, I enjoyed it.

 

One of my main gripes though..

WHY didn't the camera guy take one of the guns with him that were lying around near the end, during the whole massacre thing? A couple of guys with guns were clearly shown just lying on the ground, dead..

So I watched The Sacrament, and to be honest it's probably my favorite out of all of Ti West's works I've seen so far. I do have to admit i've only watched The Roost and his segment in V/H/S before, but still...

 

Shocking! Just shocking, mate. Watch The House of the Devil right fucking now! A slow-burning, occult horror-throwback to the late 70's/early 80's. The entire film, from the way it's directed, shot, acted and played out is 100% late 70's/early 80's. The tension, the atmosphere It's as authentic as it gets to be honest, and a god damn masterpiece. I think that if you like films like Rosemary's Baby and The Omen, and you've got patience, you'll like this. A 10/10 for me, and one of the 10 best horror films ever. A bit too slow for many, though, but it's all about atmosphere and if you can get into the atmosphere you'll love it.

 

The Innkeepers is a must too. Looks and feels more modern than The House of the Devil, but if you enjoy classics like The Changeling (1980) and The Haunting (1963), there's no reason not to check it out. Great film!

The Den - Decent found footage horror about a woman studying web cam chat users, and most of the film takes place on computer and cellphone screens. It's got a original feeling to it, but it's very uneven and at times I found myself wondering if they could've done something a bit different. I liked the sinister atmosphere, and I was enjoyed. A bit lackluster, but decent enough.

 

 

High Lane - A fairly standard but entertaining horror flick where the first half is a thrillign thriller and the second half a standard backwoods-horror. Nothing new, but entertaining for what it is.
