ABCs of Death 2 - I thought the first ABCs of Death was fun despite the quality of the short films ranging from fantastic to pretty fucking god damned awful, but is the sequel better? Well, I'd say it's a a lot better,  and contains a plenty good shorts, but as with the first one it's very hit and miss and you have some great films, some mediocre and some awful ones. Half of them I actually liked a lot.

 

The ones I really liked:

 

A is for Amateur (directed by E. L. Katz)

After his fantastic debut feature film Cheap Thrills my expectations rose pretty high, and I thought he did a great job. Dark and funny.

 

B is for Badger (directed by Julian Barratt)

Really silly and stupid, but it offers lots of fun.

 

C is for Capital Punishment (directed by Julian Gilbey)

As predictable as it is I just couldn't help but like this. The axe-scene was superb!

 

D is for Deloused (directed by Robert Morgan)

A really twisted and fucked up stop-motion flick with a very cool style and some great fun to offer.

 

F is for Falling (directed by Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado)

I had pretty high expectations to this seeing as Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado are the duo behind the fantastic Big Bad Wolves, but I must admit I was a bit disappointed. It's good, but I believe they should and could've done better.

 

G is for Grandad (directed by Jim Hosking)

A really bisarr, black and fun segment. Hilarious.

 

I is for Invincible (directed by Erik Matti)

Erik Matti is a very interesting director and once again he proves his qualities. This one was truly great!

 

J is for Jesus (directed by Dennison Ramalho)

This one was great and it just gets more and more out of controll as it goes on. Surprised the living shit out of me.

 

K is for Knell (directed by Kristina Buožytė and Bruno Samper)

This is with no doubt one of the best films on this anthology. Fantastic atmosphere.

 

M is for Masticate (directed by Robert Boocheck)

Great, silly and bisarr black comedy. Loved it!

 

V is for Vacation (directed by Jerome Sable)

This was another great short. Very good!

 

X is for Xylophone (directed by Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo)

I guess I'd expected a bit more from the duo behind the magnificent À l'intérieur, but this was great anyway. Superb ending.

 

Z is for Zygote (directed by Chris Nash)

Visually this is one of the more impressive shorts on this film. Really twisted and nice.

 

 

The worst:

 

E is for Equilibrium (directed by Alejandro Brugués)

H is for Head Games (directed by Bill Plympton)

L is for Legacy (directed by Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen)

P is for P-P-P-P SCARY! (directed by Todd Rohal)

T is for Torture Porn (directed by Jen and Sylvia Soska)

 

These were god damned awful. So fucking bad! Annoyingly bad. Ew.

 

But overall I really liked this film. Oh yes!

I watched The Conjuring 2 with my dad a few weeks ago. Great Britain seems so bleak lol. It was a pretty enjoyable movie. The villain was stereotypical though. And I didn't like how they showed it at the beginning without explaining anything. I'd never heard of the case the movie was based on but it was interesting reading about it afterwards.

I just found out James Wan is making a spinoff movie from the nun in The Conjuring 2. I have high expectations for The Nun. Can't wait to see it!

The setting, the acting and oh gooood the practial effects.  It's just brilliant.

Not sure if it REALLY counts as horror, but I recently watched Antiviral... Why the low ratings? I mean, sure, it wasn't a perfect film by any stretch of the definiton, but it definitely presented some cool and gross ideas. Maybe I just have a weakness for body horror stuff tho... Hope Cronenberg's son will keep producing more, I think he has potential.

The Blair Witch Project is finally(?) getting a sequel, and this time we're talking a proper sequel. Now usually I wouldn't give a flying fuck about something like this, but this is a bit different. Why you ask? Because it's directed by Adam Wingard and written by Simon Barrett. You don't need no other reason than that. I actually believe this is gonna be great.

 

Seems like a few selected people have already seen it and the reviewers just doesn't seem to be able to stop praising it. I usually don't give a fuck about reviewers, but I have faith in this film. Can easily turn out to be the horror film of the year.

wow not sure what to think about that blair witch trailer, looks like it could be good or bad at this point. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

 

Last 2 horror films I saw where hellraiser 1 and  2.

 

The first was a lot more interesting than I thought it would be. Good gore/creature effects and an interesting story. 

 

The 2nd picked up from where the 1st left off and it had more action/thriller elements involved in it  The horror and gore was still there and I liked how  the cenobite world and the cenobites themselves were expanded upon. 

 

Will probably end up watching the rest of the films in the series.

 

 

On a side note who's excited for the IT remake?  

 

 

 

I really hope they don't fuck it up.

The Purge: Anarchy was a lot better than its run-of-the-mill supbar home invasion predecessor that was The Purge. It was flawed, but at the same time ver cool. Not very original or anything, but the whole purge-thing is very interesting and this time they did something very cool with the idea. Not much horror to be found, though. It's more a sci-fi actioner than anything horror-related. Actually looking forward to the third now.

 

And while not as good as its predecessor, 10 Cloverfield Lane was much fun. It felt a bit more standard than Cloverfield and it lacked the atmosphere and "originality" (in lack of a better word) of Cloverfield, but I was really surprised at it and had much fun. Could probably have been shortened something like 10 minutes, though, or told us a bit more about the characters' past, or what happened outside. But I really liked it.

Just watched The Invitation (2015). I was very curioys about this film, and it delivered so god damned hard. I thought it was excellent, and it was different from what I'd thought. The film is slow as fuck and unless you've got tons of patience you won't be able to get through this, but it's well-written, beautifully shot, superbly acted and filled with suspense and tension. Fuck yeah, this was fantastic!
 

One of the best films of 2015. Highly recommended.

felt like watching some older stuff so i watched both Jeepers Creepers movies. i don't remember anything about them at all, actually i don't think i've even seen both of them entirely, except for some parts of the second one on tv when i was a kid. the only thing i remembered was the scene where

while watching both movies, i couldn't help but recall a time in 5th grade when we had to draw something we were afraid of and somebody drew jeepers creepers, haha. (i drew the broken neck lady from fatal frame btw)

anyway, i mostly watched both films out of curiosity. still amusing, but nothing that great i'd say.

 

i also recently watched The Sixth Sense yesterday. not sure if it counts as a "horror" movie, but it definitely felt horror when i first watched it as a kid, haha. now that i'm much older i can finally understand the story.

 

as for the IT remake, i'm not too excited for it but it might be interesting to check out~

Also, how hard will y'all roast me for not caring very much for the original Phantasm? Maybe it's because I watched it when I was feeling sort of mentally out of it, but I just wasn't feeling it... at all. Maybe I was just expecting something different.. I honestly dunno.

Finally watched Green Room the other day. I've been puting this aside for a long time now to try to lower my expectations, but it didn't work to be quite honest. His second film, Blue Ruin, is a masterpiece and I just didn't think he'd manage to follow it up with something as good, and he didn't. But he wasn't too far away, and the only thing seperating the two films as far as quality goes is Blue Ruins' lead actor Macon Blair, its sombre atmosphere and originality. This film also had Macon Blair, who did superbly, but his role was much more limited sadly.

 

But Green Room did live up to my sky high expectations. Violent, raw and intense horror/crime with a badass soundtrack (Poison Idea, Napalm Death, Midnight, Dead Kennedys (cover), Obituary, Slayer, Bad Brains, Creedence Clearwater Revival) and more, a fantastic script, a bunch of fantastic actors and super awesome gore. But there's nothing not to like here. What a movie! Jesus, absolutely brilliant!

I'm dying to see this movie but it's not showing anywhere close to me gotta hurry up and release it on bluray.

 

Watched The Witch earlier tonight and it was great! Definitely one of the best horror movies I've seen in recent years, and I love the historical setting and accuracy. The soundtrack was great and the use of silence in a lot of scenes just made it all the more terrifying and suspenseful. There are some mighty unsettling scenes in this movie.

the scenes that got to me the worst are the one where you see the witch making the flying ointment out of the baby's remains and then apllying it all over her skin... and the scene where the mother is tripping balls and she thinks that she's breast feeding her baby but then it cuts away and then you see it's a crow.... yeah ouch!

I sure will do. Have you seen Na Hong-jins two other films, The Yellow Sea and The Chaser? They're both more in the land of thrillers and mystery than horror (neither are close to being horror), but both are excellent. Which is why my expectations to The Wailing is sky high.

Yeah, Bear, I watched "The Chaser", and I love it! Though "The Wailing" has some thriller elements, it is definitely a horror movie, dealing with the supernatural and stuff.

 

There are plenty of theory videos out there about the resolution of the plot. It's damn interesting!

Holy shit, I am so looking forward to Shin Godzilla (aka Godzilla Resurgence) now. The very few pictures I've seen looks very good, and Godzilla haven't looked this awesome in many, many, many years. They've used mostly CGI, puppets and animatronics as far as I know, but it actually looks like a dude in a rubber suit, and it seems like they are trying to evoke a feeling of classic Godzilla with it. I love how deformed and ugly he looks, and on top of that he looks really fucking mean and angry. It actually looks like the complete opposite of the american Godzilla which looks cute, happy and nice, on top of being "perfect" and smooth. Fucking hate the look of the american Godzilla. But this new Japanese one looks like a fucking beast.

 

Looking forward to the anime film too.

FInally got around to see The Conjuring 2, and while a step or two down from its predecessor, it's still fantastic. James Wan lives and breaths horror which he once again proves to us, and I am happy he turned down Fast & Furious 8 and the massive amounts of money he'd gotten for it to do this, even though he proved to us with Fast & FUrious 7 that he can do a lot more than just horror. Like its predecessor it's all well known and unoriginal, but it's so familiar that it turns into a breath of fresh air. Well-written and superbly directed, acted and made. Super atmosphere from begining to end, and what more than that can we wish for? Nothing. It's a classic ghost story and all in all a huge homage to the ghost stories of the 70's and 80's. Loved it!

 

The crooked man was incredible. 99/100 other directors would've gone with CGI for him, but not Wan. Nah, he found an actor who could do a great job due to a weird/different body. I just loved how he moves like a puppet. Creepy as fuck.

 

 

It's a shame he probably won't return for the third film, though. It's not the first time he's proven he can do sequels to great horror films. First Insidious I & II and then The Conjuring I & II, all four great films. It's refreshing to have someone who can make good horror sequels, because that's something we've always lacked to be honest.

 

Looking forward to The Nun too, but I am very disappointed Wan won't direct it. I can easily see this turn into a shitfest just like Annabelle did.
