I'm gonna run this thing to the ground until it dies. The difference in cpus of my Haswell and Kabylake is very minimal. My PC hardly had any hiccups in terms of performance. I recently formatted my PC and reinstalled Win7 which made the performance even better! I have more than enough on my rig to satisfy my needs. If there's anything I need to upgrade, that would be my monitors. Having a 144hz monitor will make a substantial difference but man they're pricey AF. oh wait I lied the last thing I upgraded was my monitor in October, duh xD I definitely recommend upgrading to 1440p 144Hz, it's so great and just a overall game changer (quite literally lol) also Gsync is a must imo. They're not that expensive anymore, the monitor I got is only $399 on Amazon right now (It was actually $150 more when I bought it), and you get 144Hz 1440p and Gsync, granted it's a TN panel and not IPS, it's still an amazing LCD for that price with a ton of features. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK

Bruh, with my income, I can't afford that. yeah I feel yah, I'm just saying compared to what these things have been going for, that's relatively cheap. The market price is dropping as new tech is being introduced and the older tech is in turn becoming more affordable. Start saving up man, that's what I did... in fact now that I see that they have dropped to $399 i might actually get another one for a dual setup but yeah you can get 1440p (or even 1080p) 144hz monitors for less than that, but it won't have stuff like gsync and the other bells and whistles. imo there's no point in getting a high refresh rate panel unless it comes with gsync or freesync, otherwise the framerate is just sickening at times. Oh btw I'm mainly upgrading MOBO and CPU because I'm still stuck on the AM3+ platform with my FX9370.... which is starting to lag behind severely in cpu heavy modern games, but what do you expect from a 6 year old architecture XD If I had a Haswell chip as beastly as the 4770k I would also be content to run it into the ground, since the gains from it to skylake or kabylake are very negligible, at least gaming wise gains that is. 1 Flame-X reacted to this
indigo 389 Posted February 12, 2017 (edited) Made some upgrades to my PC: A full-modular 650W power supply, no trouble with that one. And then a Phanteks CPU cooler to replace my stock cooler. After installation I noticed that the cooler is being noisy. It should be around 600-1800 RPM and it's constantly going 1700 RPM. I tried to change the settings in BIOS but no luck. Biopanda 2675 Posted August 5, 2017 Took a spooky night video of my new rig. Dual GTX 1080s in SLI, i7-5820k, 40 GB of Corsair Dominator ram (though windows is acting kinda buggy and only detecting 32), and more HDDs than is probably sane (3TB in SSDs, 8TB in mechanical) all slapped on an ASUS R5E in a Lian-Li DK-04 desk case. This thing really powers the fuck out of some spreadsheets because I never have time to play games :'3 2 Original Saku and Flame-X reacted to this
RoseOfHizaki 131 Posted August 5, 2017 Rather 'oldish' pic I ditched the Fractal Define XL and went with a Corsair 760T in white. In this pic there are 2xGTX 970s in SLi but I ditched them last year for a single 1070. Ive also got a 512GB Samsung 850 Pro but the handle of the side panel is hiding it. Ive also added more ram so now im at 32GBs Everythings still the same otherwise. [email protected] and X79 Pro. Not really much needs doing with this PC. Would love to get a 1080Ti but I dont think it would be worth it given how much I game these days. (Damn, I wish i was unemployed again -- id spend all night and day just gaming) 3 platy, Flame-X and Original Saku reacted to this
chocobuzz 752 Posted August 26, 2017 My first custom build! It's got an Intel Core i7-7700 @ 3.60GHz, GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, 16GB RAM, 240GB SSD and 1TB HDD. So it's nothing super-duper-awesome but it's enough for me and I guess it's pretty good for the ~1200€ budget I had. And at least it's a lot better than the crappy gaming laptop that I had before. (Though I would've loved if I had found a case with purple leds and stuff instead of blue, pretty much everything in my apartment is purple so it would've been more aesthetic I guess... I really love purple okay) 2 Original Saku and Zeus reacted to this
Zeus 7997 Posted November 28, 2017 Just finished doing surgery on my baby. I have an i5-4690k overclocked to 4.2Ghz - nothing out of this world, but certainly shouldn't be choking on playing games, and certainly shouldn't be 90 degrees celsius idling at the desktop and 61 degrees celsius in my BIOS. Turns out the fan on my heatsink crapped out a while ago and i've been relying on the natural airflow in my case plus the exhaust fan in the back to keep my computer cool. Apparently it was enough to stream at 1080p 60fps while playing Overwatch, but I got another heatsink today and slapped it in. Had to settle for the T4 because B&H didn't have the 212 Evo in stock, and Cooler Master doesn't have the replacement brackets for the 212 EVO in stock so I couldn't just swap the dead fan. Ended up turning into a whole rebuild complete with some sorely needed cable management, and at the end of it i swapped the exhaust fan in the back and put a second fan on the heatsink so the air moves in a T pattern in my case. Next, I need a 140mm case fan so I can replace the intake fan at the front because that sounds like a jet when I keep it on due to a missing blade 1 Flame-X reacted to this

Zeus 7997 Posted April 15, 2019 It's been a while and I've made some serious upgrades. The whole rig is basically a brand new computer. Here's the porn. I updated everything in this bad boy and I can feel the difference. Trust me when I say pay the price or pay it twice, because I spent a lot of money upgrading parts one by one because the old parts were showing their age. The biggest differences for me were the following: New case! Old case I had was the last of a floor model Corsair 350D Microcenter sold to me for $7. This is much nicer, has all the screws, and more room inside for cable management. I forgot the exact model of this case, but it's a Cooler Master. 1080 is now a 1080ti. Did that before the RTX cards dropped, and honestly with the promising results of CryEngine I don't see a need to upgrade to 2080ti right now. I could if I wanted to, but one's e-peen can only have so much girth. New CPU! I have an i7-8700k in that case, to replace the i5-4690k I burnt out when the fan died. Went the extra mile and delidded the CPU to put some liquid metal inside, and that reduced the temperatures by 4 to 7 C on top of the gains from replacing the entire cooling system. CPU is overclocked to 4.8GHZ at 1.31V. It doesn't stay at 5GHZ stable, but 5GHZ is mostly an e-peen thing and there's no practical difference gained by bumping it up 200mhz. Corsair AIO to replace the jet engine that was the CPU fan. Too lazy to do a full water cooling loop. 3 case fans are Corsair LL 140s. I had a lot of passive cooling in the PC when I used air, and that residual heat aged my parts over time. With these fans in there + the AIO, my PC runs at room temperature when playing games. New desk! The old one was super tiny and limited me on what I could buy. Also limited my mouse space when playing games, which made playing competitive shooters with low sensitivity a pain in the ass. New desk means new monitor! That's an LG 34" G-SYNC 1440p 21:9 100fps ultra wide screen monitor, just in case any of my friends forgot who was the most boujee out of all of us. Games with proper 21:9 support are heaven. The screen alone cost $1500. 1 1 VESSMIER and Original Saku reacted to this
