Watched the four first episodes of season 3 last night too. It's so god damn good, man! Got meself no less than one fucking hour in bed last night, only 20-25 minutes of the asleep I'd assume. Black Sails is so good it's starting to fuck up my life. Impressive! I love it.

Just finished Black Sails, season 2. What the fuck am I supossed to say about this season? Season 1 was good, entertaining and interesting (much because it's pirate themed), but season 2 is simply one hell of a beast and gets better and better, more interesting and more fucking badass with every single episode. Jesus, that season finale was IMMENSEI It's everything you could possibly want from a season finale in a modern TV-series. Mindblowing!

Itend to get up at 5:30am in the morning and thought I'd go to sleep early for a change (which is before 1am I guess, but I'd be damned surprised if Black Sails just didn't decide on stealing all my beauty sleep for tonight.

Making stop-motion films with kids is so much fun, guys. It takes 3 minutes to tell them how to do it, and for the newxt 2-4 hours they'll do everything by themself. You don't have to do anything beside cleaning up pee because they have so much fun they forget to go to the toilent. <factt, I know.

I made one myself too. It was, in their words, the coolest film they've ever seen. I sent about 3 minutes on it. It made me so proud! (not really, but I did act like I was )

Julia's Eyes (Los ojos de Julia) - Very nice thriller/horror about a woman with a degenerative eye disease wanting to uncover the truth behind the mysterious death of her sister (who also suffered from the same illness). Some cool visual and story-telling elements. Thank god for the absence of jump scares as well, the movie was completely eerie without them in itself. Props to the director for the proper pace too - even though it might seem long at first (almost 2 hours), it pays off. Exciting stuff.

I've got two questions concerning Borderlands I & II (on PC):

Can you play with a Xbox 360 gamepad?
    Is local co-op a possibility (split-screen)?

Add the first question to The Walking Dead game as well. Is it possible to play it with an Xbox 360 controller?

Mgla is nothing less than a FORCE live. Saw them live in 2014 or 2015, and it was impressive. I mean, everything from their stage pressence to the sound to the music itself and to the attitude was spot on. It was one hell of a concert!

I'm seeing the band live again in mach on a local black metal mini-festival, Laudata Nex Magicka II. Last year offered Cult of Fire, Urfaust, Mare, Vemod, Bölzer and Sortilega over two evenings and all bands were fantastic live. This year we'll get Mgla, The Ruins of Beverast, Execration, Dark Sonority, One Tail, One Head and Slagmaur. I doubt this years festival will top last year (Cult of Fire SLAYED! One of the best concerts I've been to!), but it should be fun. I've seen four of the bands live before (Mgla, Execration, One Tail, One Head and Slagmaur) and two of them will surely deliver. One Tail, One Head was mediocre when I saw them some years ago and Slagmaur were poor in 2014 or 2015. Hope both do better this time around.

Dark Sonority, which is pretty much a continuation of Kaosritual, have been hailed by black metal fans for their beyond good concerts, so I am looking very much forward to that.  The band consists of members and ex-members of bands such as Kaosritual, Vemod, Mare, Behexen, Black Majesty, Celestial Bloodshed, One Tail, One Head and more. So we're talking extremely experienced members. Looking forward to the gig.

The Ruin of Beverast is one hell of a band, and along with Mgla the band I am looking forward to seeing the most. Unique atmospheric black/doom metal. The solo project of Alexander von Meilenwald, previosly of the german black metal band Nagelfar (not to be confused with the swedish melodic black metal band Naglfar!). Can't wait!

The lead at 1.40 pretty much sums of this band. Powerful!

Saw the mighty Mgła last night and a host of local Hungarian bands!

Svoid opened the night with their interesting 'dark' metal that combined traditional black metal with more melodic and atmospheric approaches. They had a great sense of ritual and atmosphere, but the music itself was kinda sub-par and awkwardly put-together for me (weird, cuz on record they sound pretty badass). The second act of the night, Dunkelheit was much better, especially in terms of sound: crushing two-guitar black metal attack. A cool destructive and sinister vibe, but the same kind of song structures got tiring after a while. The last 'opening' act (even though all bands played roughly 45-50 mins) was Lepra, who were pretty sweet as well. They created a good dark ambience and their style was more varied, switching to some really cool melodies and mid-tempo headbangers. They were really professional. The icing on the cake was a cover of Mayhem's "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" at the end with guest vocals from Svoid's frontman. Then came Mgła and destroyed us all, heh. Very powerful mood. The overdriven bass guitar was absolutely crazy, gave a killer 'cutting' feel to the music. The crowd got into it a lot more too, which was good to watch (it was a sold-out gig anyway). All in all, an awesome night - it's just that almost 4 hours of straight-up black metal messed with my head a bit, lol.

So I watched The Sacrament, and to be honest it's probably my favorite out of all of Ti West's works I've seen so far. I do have to admit i've only watched The Roost and his segment in V/H/S before, but still..The film has a pretty creepy atmosphere, especially considering the story is apparently heavily based on real-life events. Actually didn't know that it was based on the Jonestown massacre while watching it, believe it or not. I sort of half-expected some sort of paranormal twist to pop up near the end, something like that cult segment from V/H/S 2, but that didn't happen... Despite that, I enjoyed it.

One of my main gripes though..

I also watched The Taking of Deborah Logan. Was supossed to watch it last weekend, but didn't have the time and had to wait til this weekend because my girlfriend wanted to watch it too.

I am also a fan of the found footage/faux docuentary-style horror genre. A genre that's got a lot of undeserved criticism because it's such a "simple" genre, and suddenly "everyone" just picked up a camera, filmed some shit and got it released no matter how god-fucking-awful it was.

The Taking of Deborah Logan - Like Tokage said, nice, likeable characters, great atmosphere all over. Nothing not to enjoy here. Great film!

The scene where the guy takes a look at the pictures were so god damn effective. So simple, yet so effective and bone-chilling.

Will watch some more films like this later. The Den, Willow Creek, The Tunnel and more. Fun genre!

Surprisingly I haven't found a thread on this particular movement (the origins of Visual Kei!) yet, and I believe it very well deserves its own place as I am aware there are several people who enjoy it.

Any of these genres (if you want to call them such, controversies, you know) may be lumped together and is usually referred to in general as hair metal. Spawning from hell's smothering depths in the early 80's, hair metal began to gain popularity as many bands began to imitate the eccentric looks of Sweet, David Bowie, Alice Cooper and KISS, only to combine them with an off-the-rails attitude forwarded in music revolving mostly around the common sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. Looks range from shocking attires and dark images (W.A.S.P., Mötley Crüe, Wrathchild U.K.), a simpler look involving not too much makeup and extravagant outfits (Tesla, Skid Row, Whitesnake), something I would call 'womanizer bands' with guys often simply looking to show off their attitude (L.A. Guns, Faster Pussycat, Roxx Gang), to downright feminine-looking bands where you can't make left from right (Pretty Boy Floyd, Tigertailz, Poison).

Hair metal didn't change much during the 80's, however most people believed it to already be heading downwards with the popular names of Bon Jovi and Poison which arose somewhere in the mid-80's. The metal subsided and a more acceptable hard rock sound took its place, making it more or less radio-friendly. (I honestly do not mind if an album comes from '81 or '89, it all sounds good to me.) With the 90's in sight, hair metal took a decline in popularity as grunge faced an uprising with the names of Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots and Soundgarden. Many bands changed their appearance and sounds and it was soon that the movement took a dive and many bands disappeared, or altered themselves so that they became almost unrecognizable. There were of course still groups who stuck to what they knew, but a lot of the lesser known names suffered the inescapable fate of being smothered by the public's new interest.

It was in the mid-00's that glam metal took on a new form. Namely on Scandinavian grounds, young groups began to form and relive the 'good old days' of party-rock. CRASHDÏET, Hardcore Superstar, Babylon Bombs, Vains Of Jenna and Reckless Love (to name a few) raised up out of nowhere and breathed new life into the mix. Although as of late, the flame seems to be simmering on a low frequency again, as not many new bands seem to rise up anymore and they are mostly the pre-existing ones that continue to release new material, also in new jackets, as young boys grow up.

Please use this thread to share anything reminiscent to this music. Whether it's a hidden gem from the early 80's or a band that just took form. I have been meaning to dive back into my first love, and this seems a nice way to pick it back up again.

I'm very much into screamo and have been for many a years. Raein, Neil Perry, Yaphet Kotto, Funeral Diner and (older) Envy are probably my favourites and the ones I've spent the most time on, but I am also very much into bands like Orchid, Pg.99, Daïtro, Suis la lune, Mihai Edrisch, Aussitôt Mort and so on. A nice mix of violent powerviolence/grindcore-esque, beautiful post-rock/ambient-esque and pure punk/hardcore-esque screamo bands.

Raein's Nati Da Altri Padri/Ogni Nuovo Inizio might be my very favourite screamo release. Such a massive EP, that. Brilliant stuff! The band released a new album/EP this year as well, but I haven't heard it yet. But knowing this band it's probably great, as the rest of their discography. Fantastic band!

Ip Man are one of the best choreographed (martial arts) action films in the history of films, and along with films such as Ong Bak, The Raid 1 & 2 and Chocolate, one of the martial arts films one must see from the past 15 years, and this I base on the fights alone, something which says alot because I know my martial arts films. And on top of that Ip Man is alot more than just fights.

Ip Man is choreographed by Sammo Hung, one of my personal favourits (as an actor, director and choreographer) and he's not gained that status without a proper reason. Often considered the best fight choreographer in the world, and I tend to agree and Ip Man was just another film to prove his brilliance. The choreography is so smooth, so slick, so powerful and so beautiful, and Donnie Yen is one to really pull it off with conviction. The fight with the Japanese unit is more than fucking brilliant. Can watch that over and over and over, and I just won't get tired of it. So good.

Yeah, well as I said before, I don't watch a lot of movies, so I'm very much not a film nerd . I still enjoyed Ip Man 3, though there were some characters that probably had more back story in the previous films. I may eventually watch the first 2 films, but anyway I mostly watched it for cool action scenes and I was satisfied.

As for Star Wars.. I'm pretty sure I've never watched an entire one. I've definitely seen large chunks of the original trilogy, and chunks of ep 1..  I'm not really interested in sci-fi, so Star Wars isn't a series I'm into.. I actually looked up spoilers for ep 7 because I kept seeing people whining about getting spoiled, so I had to know.

Insidious 3: Weakest chapter out of the 3, for sure. Still entertaining to watch, but.. why so many jumpscares, bro? I mean, the previous parts had them too, but this one felt like it was just ALL jumpscares. Oh, and that old lady vs old lady/man ghost fight near the end was just ridiculously cheesy, I actually cringed a little... That scene with the lung cancer ghost moving through the girl's room while she's lying helpless on the floor was damn good though.

Regarding Stalin I could say that there is no clear consensus on "the essential/best Stalin album"  (voices divided between their debut album, STOP JAP (considered as "overrated") and Mushi). I am really puzzled about CoM choice too.

Speaking of which, they skimmed over
and for some reason (highly respected albums there too btw) but they might have been too "experimental" to lump into genres anyway.

.. a few others I'd never heard of

Both of us were in the mood for some kung fu action, and thought it would be fun to see a Cantonese movie in a theatre (both of us speak/understand it on some level) and besides I was already familiar with the basics of Ip Man's real life story. .. Comparing it to something like Lord of the Rings is a bit much, obviously LOTR is a gigantic epic story, and in a case like that I wouldn't start from the middle.

Had you asked me this tomorrow the list would've been slightly different. I might had chosen another Alcest, Summoning, Paysage d'Hiver or Summoning album, or chosen different bands alltogether. The three albums I always keep on a list like this is Hail Horror Hail, San and Under the Sign of the Black Mark, the rest will always look different. It all depends on what day you ask me this on, how I am feeling and so on.

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens - Been looking forward to this film since forever, but I've been sceptical all the way, not expecting anything but another crap film. I'm not gonna lie to y'all. This isn't genius filmmaking. It's solid, but not much more than that. It's more or less a remake, and it's very safe from begining to end. Unlike what they did with the prequel, J.J. Abrams' goal here was qiote obviously to capture the classic Star Wars-feeling from the old trilogy. First and foremost please the old fans, while adding modern touches to please the new, younger generation and gain new fans. As boring that sounds, I thought it was the right thing to do. Because I had the feeling of watching a Star Wars film here, something I did not get from the prequel trilogy. So yeah, I am happy with that.

The second thing is that I see this more as a film to get the franchise started again. It offers nothing new, but it's a safe, but extremely pleasing start to the new era of Star Wars. I can understand how that is displeasing to a lot of people. I can understand their disappointments. But I was not disappointed at all. I was surprised. The feeling of wathing a Star Wars film felt great, I had chills almost from begining to end and I had to fight to keep some tears of joy back at times. It was everything I had dared to hope it was gonna be, plus some more.

My only complaints is a few standard Hollywood moments (Finn and Rey taking in eachothers mouth in the Millenium Falcon), Kylo Ren taking off his mask when he's questioning Rey and Snoke looking like a character that looked too fucking stupid for The Hobbit films, which says a lot considering how dumb, stupid and fake some of the characters in The Hobbit was. The trolls was awful. And Snoke looks like a fucking troll from The Hobbit. But everything else was on point, so those elements didn't bother me much at all.

I can't wait for this year's spin-off, and I sure as fuck can't wait for the sequel. Oh dear! I am already on my way dying to watch 'em both.

Mud - Extremely pleasing coming of age-thriller with Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon and some others. It's a very solid thriller, but on the other hand it's a damn fine coming of age tale, but the highlight of the film to me was the southern atmosphere and toxic envirement provided by several of the female characters. It's rare to see that type of females in films like this IMO. Really liked it!

Top notch coming of age/thriller film. Very good!

Exit Through the Gift Shop - I don't give a fuck if this is a hoax or not, I was proper entertained by the film. I thought it was really good, and it's really damn interesting. The film takes a look at a french shop-keeper/amateur "filmmaker" whos interest for graffiti makes him a star. Hoax or not, it was really fun.
