Why Don't You Play in Hell? - A cool, but disappointingly lawed action/comedy/draa by Sion Sono (Suicide Club, Strange Circus). As usual he offers something fresh, but there's plenty of nods to a couple of other directors, namely Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie. The first hour is slow as fuck, but good and I love how it takes time to build the characters and around the hour mark the film kicks off and the pace increases and the fun is turned up. But the first hour, despite slow, feels necessary. Fumi Nikaido, Hiroki Hasegawa and Tak Sakaguchi are really impressive in the film. However, I mention flawed and here it comes: there's some awful CGI in the film. Blood, limbs flying through the air and god knows what, and for one it looks awfully shitty, but as a second it doesn't fit together with the rest of the film. It's so out of place and annoying, and to me it ruins a film that could've been a nutball, batshit crazy masterpiece. Such a fucking shame. Magnificent Butcher - Classic Yuen Woo-ping flick with Sammo Hung, Kwan Tak-hing and Yuen Biao among others. Yuen Woo-ping and Sammo Hung does play a lot on Yuen Woo-ping's earlier film Drunken Master with Jackie Chan, but with a bit less humour and a darker theme thrown in. It even features Beggar So which I personally think is cool as fuck. Sammo Hung is amazing as always and the fights are so well-choreographed and entertaining that's it's a pleasure to watch. I can't really find anything to put my finger on. Fantastic film! Fun fact: Kwan Tak-hing who portrays Wong Fei-hung in this film, played Wong Fei-hung in at least 77 films between 1940 and the 1980's. That's crazy.

Episode 6, Charlie Boy - Cool episode on par with The Thirteenth Reunion and Rude Awakening directed by Robert Young (Vampire Circus). It is a bit lackluster on the atmopsheric side of things, but it's a very cool episode, though a bit generic. It feels very macabre, but not quite as macabre as The Thirteenth Reunion, and more on the horror-side of things. I liked it a lot. 7/10

Back in early june 2013 I was hiking in the carpathian mountains together with my girlfriend, and we spent months walking around the mountains all alone. In this period we had no contact with other humans, and the first two and a half month everything was peaceful and beautiful. We had seen plenty of animals during this time, among them wolves, chamois and lynxes, but had no close contact with them. They left us alone, just as we left them alone and there wee no problem. Then suddenly one night we encountered a big fucking brown bear. With no weapons in hand I had to protect my girlfriend and I and I had no other choice than to fight it off with my bare hands. I did what I had to do and fought him for well over an hour until he realised he'd met someone as powerful as himself and left, and it was then I realised I'm as tough as a fucking brown bear. After such an experience I felt like calling myself Bear was the only thing natural to do. Simple as that.

The 14 Amazons - A two hour long wuxia epic directed by Cheng Gang and Charles Tung, and as far as I know the first film to be based on the Generals of the Yang Family. The premise and certain scenes of the film is really silly and it's all very cheesy, but it's got this majestic, grandeour feeling to it, a brilliant cast (where most are females) and great action. Well, the action gets great after a while, because in the begining it feels very underwhelming and poorly choreographed and executed. I really enjoyed this classic, epic martial arts drama. I actually tried Frankie Chan's 2011 remake Legendary Amazons a couple of years ago, but I had to turn it off after 30 minutes as it was so fucking awful. It's the film that teached me that I don't actually have to see shitty films to the end no matter how bad it is. Yes, it was that bad. Eeeeew.

Episode 5, The House That Bled to Death - Another episode directed by someone I'm not familiar with, Tom Clegg, but this time I'm really impressed because this is by far the best episode till now. It's actually god damn good. The atmosphere is great, the acting is OK, Tom Clegg does a great job and it's just superior to the first four episodes on every level aside from actors. I did not see that ending coming. Highly recommended! 9/10

Finished Les Revenants last night. God damn good series, and I am really looking forward to season 2. Supernatural, suspenseful drama with elements of horror. Top notch, guys. Check it out (the original, not the remake!).

Intimate Confessions of a Chinese Courtesan - Amazing martial arts revenge-flick directed by Chor Yuen. What an amazing film! This one was simply close to perfection. It's beautifully shot, acted and directed. The fights aren't all that impressive skill wise, but they are beautifully done and almost poetic in a weird way. The film was released in 1972, the year before one of my all time favourite films - Lady Snowblood, and I would lie if I said I did not get a Lady Snowblood-feeling from this film, because they are present from the first minute and to the end. Especially the cinematography, art direction, bloody fights and the way it is shot reminds me of a lot of Lady Snowblood. Fantastic film! Really fucking amazing!

Episode 4, Growing Pains - Directed by Francis Megahy whom I do not know, so I didn't expect much from this. Yet I found myself very disappointed after this episode. I thought it showed some promise early on, especially in the car, which was spinechilling as fuck, but from there on it all went to hell. The acting is stiff as the actors weren't explained what to doo, it's poorly edited and just not very good. There's not eally anything good here. It was very boring. Simple as that. 4/10
  9. Yeah, the album is great. Well, everything Darkspace is great. First song off the new album. I really fucking like it. I'm quite surprised that I get plenty more The Sham Mirrors-vibes than Sideshow Symphonies-vibes from the song. Had expected a more Sideshow Symphoniesesque song. Really looking forward to seeing them live on Inferno in a week now.
  10. August 29th, 2015. The dark retrosynth brotherhood is coming to Helsinki for a one time gig. Shit. I wish I could go. God damn great lineup. Perturbator will also play at Nidrosian Black Mass V, the last Nidarosian Black Mass festival ever. They'll play alongside The Ruins Of Beverast, Mgła, Archgoat, Cult Of Fire, Bölzer, Antaeus, Aosoth, Nightbringer, Negative Plane, Svartidauði, Pseudogod, Clandestine Blaze, Lvcifyre, Mare, One Tail, One Head, Sinmara, Dark Sonority, Nyogthaeblisz, Drowned and Misþyrming. So yeah, Perturbator will play at a black metal festival, and this time he'll do more than just DJing like he's done before. Not sure if he'll d DJ or do this other shit at the Helsinki gig, though, but probably the other shit. This is what I call a lineup. Christ...

Yeah, I'm quite familiar with The Angry Video Game Nerd, and I really like him. I especially enjoy his Cinemassacre series where he reviews a shitload of horror films throughout october. Lots of fun. And yeah, Hammer Horror is a must for any fan of horror films IMO, and the amount of amazing films they released from around 1955 to 1975ish is fantastic. Good originals and plenty of great sequels too. A shitload of what I'd call essential horror cinema there. Seen more Hammer House of Horror: Episode 2, The Thirteenth Reunion - The second episode is directed by Peter Sasdy, a man behind great films like Taste the Blood of Dracula, Countess Dracula and Hands of the Ripper. So I was really looking forward to this. This plays along like a mystery-thriller for most part and it is lacking atmosphere and chills. But the tone suddenly changes, and while it is pretty predictable, it gets very atmospheric and fun toward the end of the episode. And the end is just fantastic! Did it deliver as good as I expected? Well, no, not really. I did have quite high expectations after all. Was I entertaining however? Yes, very much so, and a step up from episode 1, Witching Time. 7/10 Episode 3, Rude Awakening - Another one from Peter Sasdy, and again I find myself a bit disappointed, yet very much entertained. A it weaker than The Thirteenth Reunion as it lacks the punch from the film, and the intro kinda ruins the setup for the film telling you all you need to know to get the episode straight away, which is a shame. But other than that it was petty fun. Loved seeing Denholm Elliott and Eleanor Summerfield on screen, though. Great actors. 7/10

Are you familiar with the series yourself, or Hammer Horror in general?

Because you like Church of Misery: Black Sabbath - Master of Reality Sleep - Sleep's Holy Mountain Electric Wizard - Dopethrone Electric Wizard - Witchcult Today Saint Vitus - Hallow's Victim EyeHateGod - Dopesick Because you like Boris (it'll obviously depend a lot on which Boris album you like, but some albums that you should enjoy): Melvins - Stoner Witch Melvins - Houdini Earth - Pentastar: In the Style of Demons Earth - HEX; or Printing in the Infernal Method Sunn O))) - Black One And pretty much all the albums mentioned above And some pesonal favourites not yet mentioned but which I consider a must of doom metal: Thergothon - Stream From the Heavens Reverend Bizarre - II: Crush the Insects Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus My Dying Bride - Turn Loose the Swans Pagan Altar - Volume 1Katatonia - Dance of December Souls Warning - Watching From A Distance Pentagram - Pentagram Pentagram - Day of Reckoning The Wizar'd - Ancient Tome of Arcane Knowledge Blood Ceremony - Living with the Ancients Totem - Totem Witchfinder General - Death Penalty Witchcraft - Witchcraft Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats - Blood Lust Fallen - A Tragedy's Bitter End Funeral - Tragedies Draconian - Where Lovers Mourn Tristania - Widow's Weeds Burning Witch - Crippled Lucifer Winter - Into Darkness Thorr's Hammer - Dommedagsnatt Coffins - Buried Death Hooded Menace - Fulfill the Curse Theatre of Tragedy - Theatre of Tragedy I probably went a bit overboard, but I do consider all albums mentioned in this post classics, either proper classics or mothern classics within lots of different subgenres of doom (traditional, drone, funeral, death/room, epic, psychedelic, doom rock, gothic and more.). So check it out and get an overview over what you like, which'll make it easier to recommend something for your taste in the future. But these albums will get you a decent overview of the genre as a whole, so I'd recommend you checking it out with time even though it'll take some time to get through the whole list.

Just started on the Hammer House of Horror anthology series and watched the first episode, so I'll update here whenever I watch a new episode: Episode 1, Witching Time - This short (50 minutes) is directed by Don Leaver whom I am not familiar with, but from the looks of it he was mostly involved in TV-series. It's fairly generic and standard, and it is lacking in all departments, but it was a nice little treat anyway. From what I heard it's the weakest in the series, and if that is true then I am very positive. Enjoyable, but not amazing. 6/10

Just watched episode 4. God damn this show is getting good. Lots of twists and turns, and both the plot and characters are getting more and more interesting by the minute.
  16. Suddenly back on a symphonic black metal kick. Proper, dark symphonic black metal the way it was supossed to be. It's nice alright. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxWrKa8vC10 They don't make 'em like this anymore. Symphonic black metal is like a forgotten art nowadays.

Couldn't find a proper version of The Green Hornet serial, so gave up on that for now. However, did find good torrent for Hammer House of Horror and will start watching that as soon as the episodes are down. Should be good for a massive fan of Hammer Horror like myself. Should be very good. Episodes are directed by Alan Gibson ( Dracula A.D. 1972, The Satanic Rites of Dracula), Peter Sasdy (Taste the Blood of Dracula, Countess Dracula, Hands of the Ripper) and Don Sharp (The Kiss of the Vampire, The Face of Fu Manchu, The Brides of Fu Manchu, Rasputin the Mad Monk) among others, and as I love all the films named I've got high expectations. I can't wait to watch this. Started on Les Revenants with my girlfriend. A couple of episodes in and I am very impressed. I'm actually getting some Twin Peaks-feeling from the atmosphere of the series here and there, which is very cool. Great soundtrack by Mogwai as well. Looking forward to the continuation here.

    Spot on.
  19. I don't have a preference and don't give a fuck. I prefer fitting vocals. Doesn't matter if they're male, female, can sing or can't sing for shit. It just have to fit the music.

GLOW: The Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling - A very nice documentary about GLOW, the first ever female wrestling show. The documentary starts at the begining and walks through the history of the show in 75 minutes. Interviews with plenty of the girls, creators, trainer (god damn, this guy was amazing! So into it!), how they've done after the show and a short piece on how the wrestling fucked with some of these girls' bodies. It was a really nice documentary and I will have to check out GLOW. Seems like the most cheesy TV-show ever made. Holy shit that is awesome.

Reading about norwegians who's gone down to Syria to join IS, and when it's not the fucking "paradise" they imagined they want to get home but are unable to because of how things are down there. Fucking idiots. Stay where you are, fools. Edit: 1111 posts. Coolio bro.

Legendary Weapons of China - Fantastic martial arts film by Lau Kar-leung, who also starred in the film. It's not his best film, but it's amazing nonetheless and the cast is great. Gordon Liu, Kara Hui, Hsiao Ho and bothers Lau Kar-leung and Lau Kar-wing among others. The plot is great, the fihts are well-choreographed, executed and directed, as well as very diverse, and there's som very cool taoist maoshan folk magic thrown in as well. The last fihts is awesome as fuck, as is the whole film. Good shit! The Iron-Fisted Monk - After the success of The Shaolin Plot, in which Sammo Hung had his major role, he asked for funds to direct a film and got a yes - the very same year as the release of The Shaolin Plot Sammo Hung got his directorical debut with The Iron-Fisted Monk, and the film itself is nothing short of a masterpiece. The plot is pretty dark and grim, though fairly usual, but a good plot. Sammo Hung & co are all great and the fights are amazing, and every single one of them are better than the previous one, which makes it quite exciting as the first fight were already amazing. Great film, and it's always fun to see Sammo Hung. How a man of his size can be this smooth, fast and precise is beyond me. So god damn impressive! The Lady Assassin - Clocking in at only 86 minutes this wuxia is a tad too short and suffers from it as some characters should've been given a lot more screentime, as well as the plot being given more time to grow, but this was a surprisingly good film. Amazing I mean. But it's bloody, it's exciting and it's very, very, very fun. Great cast too. Also, the fights are extremely smooth and fast-paced. Tight as fuck.

The Kid with the Golden Arm - Amazing Chang Cheh flick with several Venom Mob members, which in itself is pretty fucking awesome and makes this more than watchable. The mainlot is very straightforward and something you've seen before, but the characters are cool and the fights are even cooler. This is Chang Cheh quality - this is awesome! The Lady Hermit - Cool wuxia with two strong, female leads. The plot is good, the cast is great and the violence is amazing. The fights themself were a bit of a letdown, but the blood and violence makes up for it for me, because it is a pretty bloody film and I love blood on screen. It's not spectaculare, but it's good damn fun. Do watch!

Can we talk bout this album: More or less the perfect pop album, with one of the very best productions ever no matter what genre we're talking about. Hikaru Utada is amazing and the songs are amazing, but the production and how the album sounds is by far the highlight here. It's a pleasure to the ear to listen to the album. Ear massage from begining to end. 10/10 and so on.
