  1. I'm going to finally do this and post something here > _ <

But mainly because I decided to experiment with some makeup and for the first time in about a month it ACTUALLY TURNED OUT PRETTY WELL

It's a really bad webcam pic because....that's all I have to work with right now but I just really wanted to share this guys, please be nice (and ignore the hand bc that eye was a failure, also the nose and my hair to name a few)

it's not very VK I know, but I find that style doesn't really suit me

also you can't see the freaking amazing green sparkle that the lid colour has :(

  2. I really branched out in terms of music this year I feel. I've been into Japanese stuff for about three years now I guess? The first year consisted soley of The GazettE, Dir en Grey, Alice Nine, Nightmare etc etc etc, you probably get a rough picture. The second year was more exploring the scene and just generally branching out into the scene and finding my own music rather that what is just 'more readily availible'. But still well in the category of more recent bands (read as active bands)

Life story over, this year I've been thrown into the world of 90's and early 00's VK music (in terms of new discoveries), the likes of Syndrome, Madeth Gray'll, La'Mule, Eze:qul and the list could literally go on, but these stick in my mind the most at the moment of typing.

But if we're going to mention specific bands then LuLu and NightingeiL are a definite for VK, along with Heisei Ishin's final album REVOLUTIONS to pull things over to a slightly happier note, and I normally can't get into full albums from bands with similar sounds. It's normally either a couple of songs/singles or a mini album.

One band that was a real surprise is Janna Da Arc's GAIA album. Not being a fan of ABC ('cept one song) and not liking the few JDA songs I heard before, primarily due to Yasu's voice. But somehow something changed when I listened to this album, courtesy of MH I downloaded it on a whim and oh boy, A+ decision -pats self on back-

Before I forget, Jupiter's amazing debut album was everything I wanted from Versailles and more. Although I was starting to listen to more Versailles, Jupiter just blew them out of the water and I might be hooked > . <

Kenshi Yonezu's album Diorama and amazarashi's Sennen Kofukuron, have to be more on the alternative side that pretty much manage to soothe my soul no matter what or just take me away to a slightly happier place, if only briefly > <

Still with the non VK theme and more recently, LITE. That's it. That's all I've got. I have no words to describe how hard I fell for them at first listen. And courtesy of our CAT... Luis Nanook. Reminds me a lot of Sigur Rós if you're into that kind of music, but I've been loving working to it and even got one of my 'japanese music hating friends' to like them which is A HUUGE BONUS in my book anyway :P

As far as non Japanese music goes...

Post-Hardcore/Punk Rocky-esque music (although I may have put them in my screamo thread WHOOPS) La Dispute and Defeater are two that stand out and are relatively easy listening for a lot of music within that genre hence fit with a lot of moods. On the more melodic side of Post-Hardcore I guess would be Landscapes which I also mentioned in that thread.

Last one before I bore you even more, Trivium's Ascendancy album. I asked a guy in HMV to recommend me some CD's because I wanted something new and this was on the list, and it's just a generally solid metal album which I highly recommend if that's your thing :)

  3. eeeeh?! I dont' know why I didn't see this earlier :( but thanks guys (even though I was too late) really appreciate it >/////<

But I think i'm probably going to try out some headphones first before I buy this time tbh

And another question > < amps? I didn't even realize you could get mini ones for mp3 players / computers etc etc

One part of me is like 'ALL THE QUALITY' and the other half like 'Wait....money.....yes, I think you should wait'

  4. If you had a line of chocolate squares, all the way from 100% coco to 1% coco, would you be able to taste the difference in between? I don't know what the 1% one would taste like though, but probably like shit...

Back on topic, for example, no matter how long you stare at the hour hand on a clock apparently you'll never see it move because it moves too slowly. Kind of same with the missing blue analogy, where if you have a line of all the shades of blue but with one missing, can you picture the missing shade? Without going into detail, the ultimate answer for me is that the difference will be so minuscule that you wont be able to see the difference or hence even spot the missing shade hence a pseudo problem.

I'm  probably just bullshitting now, I can't even remember why we had to use that as an analogy in philosophy, and I don't remember writing down that conclusion i'm just warping it to however I see fit...

  5. I guess it's more the narrow stereo-imaging and the humps in the low mids that I don't get :P and I've not had a chance to try out any open backs for the experience, but it seems like they'd bbe mote comfy for long periods of listening, so I'm more inclined towards them rn

And the eBay option seems p good too...

  6. Also it's worth asking, more in terms of Grados ones (I seem to be leaning that way again) anyone know the chance of picking up fakes if I look on ebay or somewhere of the likes? In that guide thing it says $80 (which = £50 apparently) it always becomes a little more expensive anyway from dollars to pounds with these kind of things, but not over double the price?! Seems a little fishy to me and -slams fist- I feel i'm being cheated already....

  7. My budget is around the £100 mark I guess, but cheaper is always appreciated :P

And yeah, I've been looking round places where I can try out some of the headphones mentioned here amongst others, because testing out headphones before basically meant either going into HMV or going into a BOSE store...

I've been eyeing the Grado ones for a while, but purely because the ones sai brought up are basically half price i'm kind of swayed towards that >...< (c'mon though who doesn't like a bargain) but it's also the open vs closed

I'm not sure I have that good an ear to tell the difference?? Then is it worth it like....

but they are your typical closed back heads, meaning a little narrow in terms of stereo-image and with a very noticable hump in the low-mids

duuuude I have no clue what any of this means and when I tried to find out...

nope, still nothing :( if anything I have even less clue

  8. Aaah, thanks for all the replies already guys ^-^ and I will probably voice some of my thoughts later as I tend to be the kind of person who likes to know EVERYTHING about something before delving into it (so research coming up) but after reading that other thread I feel especially enlightened by your headphone journey Zess xD

And I know what you mean by putting shit in you'll get shit out > < that's another concern of mine I guess, as not all of my stuff is in great quality, and I don't have the money to replace (or heart to get rid) of any music below 'x' quality. But I figure that headphones is a good place to start...

And also, I feel I mainly listen to a lot of music in the rock/metal category, but that's not ALL I listen to

I seem to have occasional outbursts of craving piano music for example, not sure how that will sound on the Grados headphones, which I was originally drawn to because of the metal/rock ratings

  9. I've been meaning to make this topic for a while...

Headphones are something I always seem to struggle with, in terms of ones that cover a large variety of genres. It's especially hard to find ones that don't make metal (generalizing a bit there) sound a little muddy

    I currently have these ones
    http://www.thehouseofmarley.co.uk/headphones/over-ear-headphones/rise-up-over-ear-headphones.html
they're the first set of not-in-ear headphones I've had and I would definitely rate them in terms of sound quality, I don't have a lot to compare them to though, but comfy and all of the HOM headphones look awesome! (mine is in camel) but it seems they're breaking on one side, it hasn't affected the sound at all but one arm doesn't lock anymore so it keeps falling down one side of my face Dx despite quality supposedly being a selling point, not impressed and I need to chase that up...

But still hasn't stopped me from doing a little bit of digging around and it's always good to know for future reference

Preferably looking for ones that are over ear and also...don't break the bank > < which is a lot to ask for when going for quality headphones it seems. But if anyone has any suggestions then feel free to send them my way.

I've heard good things about Grado headphones and these are the ones that caught my eye

    http://www.grado.co.uk/grado-earphones/sr60i-headphones.htm

I also think they're fairy reasonable in terms of price and anything around that (or less xP) would be ideal

  10. I'm going to go with Black Gene for the Next Scene and their first release DOOM.

Yes, it could be counted among the artists who went downhill after 'x' release, but bear with... I remember not liking XodiacK due to the vocals, especially the growls (but now looking back they're not as bad as I remember) but then I happened to listen to DOOM and I was really pleasantly surprised and looking forward to what else they would come out with and I actually enjoyed his vocals (I remember XodiacK fans despairing in the YT comments though xD)

Then the khz thingy came out and I don't think I've been able to listen to them since :( which makes me sad but there are plenty more VK fish in the sea

  11. I only really listen to Dir en Grey and that happens to be one of the few GazettE songs I still enjoy...
But it seems Dir enGrey wins this one for me too ^_^

    1. Howard Shore - The Great River

    2. Dué le Quartz - 卍 Garame

    3. Matenrou Opera - Magnolia

    4. The Verve - Weeping Willow

    5. Orphee - you...

    6. DIV - 215

    7. Ebola - $ God

    8. Plastic Tree - 月の光をたよりに

    9. NoGoD - Dou (Shirube)

    10. VAST - Tattoo Of Your Name

Whoa! I didn't even realize I had The Verve on here any more, that's a little nostalgic... and the Ebola song from when I was exploring the non Japanese part of MH.

This was a hard one, if you'd asked me on Thursday evening then VAST, a week ago I would have been inclined to answer DIV but then again it's an intro, two weeks ago Plastic Tree and a month ago NoGoD! The Dué le Quartz song was my first song by them...

Now...a toughie between NoGoD and Matenrou opera, but i'm inclined to go with Magnolia
Special mention for NoGoD though, because I feel bad > <
