Been spinning some instrumental jazz-fusion math rock-metal things lately, particularly:

...and looks like Javier Reyes from Animals As Leaders has a new solo album out under his Mestis moniker!

I don't mind autotune at all as long as it's used a bit subtle. Just don't go full retard with it. Agalloch is a band who utilizes autoune to great success live IMO.

How come there's no David Bowie thread?? Blasphemy!

Anyway, it is finally confirmed: Bowie will release his new album "Blackstar" on his 69th birthday, January 8th. The single will be dropping on November 20, and is expected to be a 10-minute epic with lots of weird shit, just like the album itself (some sources described it as a mash-up of jazzy elements and '70s German electronic/krautrock vibes).

Listen to a short snippet of the title track as the opening of "The Last Panthers" (series):

Everyone else as excited as me?  His last album "The Next Day" was surprisingly good, so I can't wait to hear the new stuff. He always has something cool up his sleeve. Newest official pic btw (is this man rly a vampire? yes, must be):

Any favorite Bowie albums? Mine have to be "Aladdin Sane" and "Station To Station".

An interesting documentary and especally the part on Wrest is cool, but the part of Russell Menzies is so embarrassing. Had to find a pillow to cover my face when he was being interviewed.

Krieg is really underrated by the way. The discography is a bit uneeven, but at its best (Patrick Bateman) it's just beyond amazing. That's such an amazing release. But in reality Patrick Bateman, Sono lo Scherno, Blue Miasma and The Black House are all fantastic, while both Rise of the Imperial Hordes and Destruction Ritual are good. I also love the varity of his discography. From the raw, chaotic sounds of his earlier releases to the polished and more groovy sound of Blue Miasma and The Black House to the sheer violence and brutality of Patrick Bateman. I wanted to post the The Blackash Snowfall version from Sono lo Scherno, but youtube only have the one from Destruction Ritual, which is a shame because the one from Sono lo Scherno is so much better. Than synth, man!

I'm not sure if you're familiar with Leviathan from before, but a few of the albums are totally recommended for fans of Xasthur, Krieg, Twilight, Lurker of Chalice, Draugar, Blut aus Nord and more. The Tenth Sub Level of Suicide and Tentacles of Whorror are USBM classics. Hypnotic, devilish and mean. I think the vocals sounds amazing on both albums. Unholy, possessed, almost schizophrenic in a way.

I think the band is at its best when Wrest decides to slow things down a bit.

Edit: By the way, Leviathan are one of those bands that seems to grow a lot on people with time. I wasn't a fan to begin with, and most other I know who are into the band wasn't either.

j/k lol...But nah, cornelius is cool if you like bright, quirky and playful electronic music. Tokyo Jihen...I guess it depends on how much you like Shiina Ringo. You're either gonna love her or hate her tbh. But if you can dig the vocals, I think you'll be able to dig TJ's eccentric amalgam of jazz, rock, and pop. It's too bad they've disbanded because they were one of the best mainstream bands in Japan if you ask me. If the spirit ever moves you, check out "point" by cornelius and the first 2 albums by TJ (yes, both of them!).

I think if you just want to be more musically knowledgeable, then you should check out The cure, Bowie, Black Flag, Slayer, TGD, and even The White Stripes to an extent....but personally, I don't think BMTH, marina, and lana have made any kind of significant impact musically. I don't even get the hype around Lana to be honest lol...

I'm Pedro, brazilian. I Started listen to japanese stuff back in 2006  when I was 14, introduced by L'arc. Didn't take to much time for me to knowing about Dir en grey and going tottally crazy about them and become my favorite band. I listen to a lot of stuff from diferent genres and countries. Brazilian popular music, bossa nova, samba, 80s and 90s alternative rock(shoegaze, noise rock, post-rock etc), bands like Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Yo La Tengo and My Bloody Valentine are among my favorites. Singer-songwritter/folk stuffs like Dylan, Nick Cave and Tom Waits. Sludge, doom, stoner, black and death metal as well. And jazz somethimes.

Japanese bands that got my attention besides Diru are MUCC, Merry, Boris, Envy, downy, THE NOVEMBERS, BUCK-TICK, Plastic Tree, Shiina Ringo/Tokyo Jihen, pretty much anything involving Kiyoharu and so forth.
