Wow didn't know that Do yall remember when hell was breaking loose about the MP album? Now after all those avex releases (excl. scums... ^^) I finally took a listen again and ... well.. it's a pretty good album isn't it? In moments like that I just realize on how high horses people sat back then.

It appears to me the lyrics are about their current situation with AVEX and they're aware of their sellout status. But would they ever do this? I mean usually Nightmare lyrics are very poetic, romantic and metaphorical. But these are strangely focused. Would love to know your interpretation or if I just tripped xD

Has anyone anything to say about this? Because I frankly got NOTHING to say. It's so bland and generic, they could as well have put TABOO on it three times. But as always, never judge an upcoming Nightmare album by it's A-Side...

It's this whole kind of photosession thing that makes ME mad because it looks stupid, distanced and pointless. If Dir en grey are so upset or "amused" about this, they can well say NO. But they don't. So they know what they're going into.

Some Dir en grey songs are good in my opinion.

I think bands like lycaon mean another type of thing when they talk about "reloading their.. guns to ..erm BLOW other bands..whatever" This is stupid anyway, theres NOTHING this band does differently from bands like SCREW MEJIBRAY and all those others. They won't blow anyone, except for their boyfriends maybe. My honest opinion.

Hah. VK production. I really don't want to pin down on one here, but in terms of produciton quality western metal has been ahead for like forever. Not only actually. Poprock productions from the early 90s (like arc en ciel or others) sound like western stuff from the 70s. If you don't see a problem with WtD production, you gotta see a doctor.

I don't think that's true at all. It's that old "back in the days when everything was better" talks. Sure, in terms of naturality, the trend went downwards ever since the early 2000s. Comparing Kisou and Arche especially. But in terms of volume, it depends on the band, the genre, the songs, the choice in instrumentals in how distinct the differences are made. Are certain paarts even supposed to sound more quiet? It mostly comes down to personal perferences. I mean listen to Opeth's Pale Communion. That's a perfect example of volume variety. Done in 2014. Speaking of Arche it's also not that kind of "all in your face even when it shouldn't". And I keep my statement, some people make things way worse than they are.

Arche doesn't sound bad. It sounds pretty generous, most metal bands nowadays pull of that kind of production. Looking back at their history, they rarely had an album with good production. Like, almost not at all. Where are some fans nowadays whining at? They still may not have a perfect sound, but it's way better than the utter shitload of fuck that were pretty much all records from 2002 to 2008. Give me a break man. It's like a spoiled child that moves from a train wreck into a noble residence, and complains about the floor plates not fitting colourly to the walls.

I happen to love every era of Dir en grey, but I know I'm among those "lucky" people who happen to have no problem with extreme metal. I can totally understand why fans would jump out of their bandwagon once they got heavier, you can't expect fans to just randomly adopt a music genre they just aren't into, simply to be able to go on enjoying Dir en grey.

How do threads like this always suck in emo people whining how they suck at life? Of course there's love. What it exists for specifically or what we make out of it is disputable though.

I'll for youUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. Of course I forgot to mention THAT ..song.. as the worst song they ever created. My mind already erased the memory of it. Like a psychosis. It's really saying something about the song when the band itself is sick of playing it merely a year after it was done. Anyone who likes that song... should be stoned. to death. Or being registered as a bad music fan offender.

Withering to Death is their worst song to date imho. Cheesy western radio appeal mixed with screaming while having your mouth stuffed with hot tomatoes. Really? I always thought he was saying RRRWAA RRWAAHWAAH RWWAAHHH, which is according to kareki of the deepest and most thoughtful kind Kyo has ever said.

I get the feeling it has always been Kaoru who got all the attention for guitar works, when often times it was actually Die who should have been mentioned. It's like people automatically assume Kaoru does all the versatile, difficult, solo-ish stuff.. when in reality it couldn't be more far away from that.

You can label them however you want, that doesn't change the convenience of some bass styles over others based on what it is supposed to play with. Toshiya will probably not fit a Cage-solo into Shitataru Mouro. No way. He's doing good, and I found it funny anyway how you criticized his bass work on DSS (or so I suppose) while this was amongst the only things DEG fans could agree on was good about this album. But everyone as thou like.

@Pretzels I'll just say tell Victor Wooten about your TWANK KLANG hijinks and he'll TWANG KLANG you across the face. Yeah but I think there's a simple reason behind it, being that the surrounding music called for it. And as I wrote, being that DSS and cohortes were more of an experimental lab, I'm sure we can expect more from Toshiya in the future. I don't know how much you're into heavy music, but for songs like AMON or ZAN the slapping technique has a deeper rhythmical input. Partly because the bass has a harder time being audible on such beasts. Partly because it underlines the aggressiveness. It's a convenience that comes with the genre I guess. And for the nonstop staccato sections on DSS the slaps worked pretty well. For my part, I don't find it unfortunate at all at the time. It just fits for me, you know? ^^ It's the thing with e-bass. If you put too much into it, it fucks up the song. (This was some big musicians saying btw, but I can't remember who). What I'd like to hear is some Alex Webster shit. That guy knows how to melt melodic lines into totally dissonant chords. But then again, Cannibal Corpse works a bit differently than japan's biggest and greatest band of all time.
