Since it's the 105th anniversary of the birth of author William S. Burroughs, it's only fitting that my friend and I went to the basement of a seedy-looking punk venue to watch a screening of the excellent documentary Burroughs: The Movie. What's really special about this one is that it was actually made while Burroughs was still alive (around the turn of the '70s-'80s), with footage of him consciously recorded to be part of the movie. Hence, it's a very well put together and indepth look into his psyche and everyday life, with commentary and anecdotes from many famous contemporaries (Allen Ginsberg, Brion Gysin etc). This restored version has already been 'obtainable' online for a few years now in top-notch HD quality (and I've already seen it ofc) but there was something really cool in seeing it in such a setting with a half-busted projector... really added to the atmosphere and spirit of the whole thing.

Great to see Yuya (ex-Videoglamour, THE HAKKIN) singing again! Or he might've done random sessions after THE HAKKIN disbanded, not sure, but still, yayyy~ Based on the name it might actually be a Videoglamour based setlist? Would be cool.

For some reason I'm really attracted to stylish/stylized covers featuring only band members so here's a batch reflecting that. BUCK-TICK - 悪の華 BOØWY - BEAT EMOTION Laputa - 私が消える Madeth gray'll - Lucifer ~魔境に映る呪われた罪人達と生命の終焉~ SOFT BALLET - DOCUMENT Might come back here later and make another post with my fave pieces of artwork not featuring actual musicians, lol.

It's already overripe, like...

TMOAB is almost like a finely polished diamond compared to TIW in my opinion... They really botched the whole production on the latter one.

Composer and professional procraXtinator YOSHIKI will score the soundtrack for the 4th installment in Vin Diesel's "xXx" movie franchise. He will also be composing a theme song for the film which is currently in pre-production, with casting being underway and shooting to start later this year. According to a recent press conference he will also do a cameo in the movie itself. An "xXx" TV series is also in the works, with YOSHIKI being one of the producers (he will be scoring the soundtrack for that one too). No word yet about the X JAPAN album of course.

Those covers are terrifying.

Velvet Buzzsaw - This movie had everything to be potentially great: the director (and main lead) of Nightcrawler, an excellent supporting cast, nice visuals and an interesting premise. It was so bad I can still hardly believe it. It's almost like they didn't know if they want to make a satire, a psychological drama or a moody horror flick, and all that came out in the end is somehow an uneven schlocky mess. There were scenes that I liked, but as a whole it was just completely wrong and baffling. The 'threat' was also only interesting up till the first kill happened but when that started I was like "....uhhhh no, not this" and then it just became sillier and sillier. Would not recommend this to anyone (maybe for ppl who have nothing better to do for two hours). *mild spoiler territory* I would totally watch a reimagining of it tho, where Natalia Dyer's character is the protagonist who comes to the big city with grand plans to move upward in the art world, but ends up being a mousey intern who somehow tragically (and hilariously) keeps finding dead bodies. It would be an excellent dark comedy B-movie with a cynical tone, keeping the cringey supernatural horror element completely obscured.

Loving the album cover and the look! They really milked the hell out of that flower brush/filter in Photoshop tho...

Just wanted to drop by and mention that I've been really enjoying Sex Education on Netflix! It's got just the right balance of comedy and drama I like, plus I'm always a sucker for coming-of-age stories. The plot is nothing wildly impressive or out-of-the-box but done excellently, the actors are great (Gillian Anderson! ♥) and the soundtrack is killer. If anyone's looking for quality entertainment I totally recommend it.

Just finished a Hungarian book one of my friends lent me, Transziregény ("Tranny-novel") by Erika László. It's supposed to be 'based on real events', or in any case its protagonist is a living breathing actually existing person (well, dead now, but... you get it). It tells the biography of a circus kid who goes on a journey to find out about their sexuality, ultimately identifying as trans, while travelling the world doing all sorts of entertainment / escort / sex-work. It could have been an interesting read but it was marred by repetition and irritating lack of fact-checking and editing. Also, I managed to snag a preowned-but-amazing-condition copy of Port of Saints by William S. Burroughs recently for quite cheap along with some other books (which is a small miracle cuz usually they sell 2nd-hand copies of it for quite a sum, seeing how Penguin hasn't done a new edition of this particular volume for some reason)... so of course I had to dive right in! So far so good, typical Burroughsian 'chaotic jumble that might make more sense later.' He wrote this right after my favorite The Wild Boys and it really shows in the style. Off to a great start.

To be fair, I don't think FORUM has an official website or Twitter. They do have an official Youtube channel tho (and weirdly enough a Google Plus profile with two updates, btw the profile points to the official MEJIBRAY website as the label's "official site" lol).

Today's another 29th anniversary: on 1st February 1990 the album "Aku no hana" was released. ♥ The band also released a corresponding video album shortly afterwards, possibly making B-T the first VK (or VK-adjacent) band to produce music videos for every song of their album (?). Not sure about this part, but I can't recall any other groups doing this in the late '80s / early '90s, until Dir en grey did it with "GAUZE". B-T later did it again in 1996 for their "Six/Nine" album. Any favorite songs and/or videos from this era? Personally the title track is an eternal favorite of mine, and video-wise "SABBAT" comes to mind as one of the moodiest and creepiest B-T PVs, complete with eerie castle, occult séance scenes and a doll that scared the hell out of me once when I was watching the vid at a high volume, lmao (skip to 03:08-ish here ).

Not sure whether this was posted before in another thread, but here's footage from their 2018/12/31 live: Sounds decent so far (dunno how much the member change will effect their sound).

Not sure whether this has been pointed out yet (neither tracks are recent), but I was just spinning some old PIERROT and lol'd: Listen to the main theme/melody in PIERROT's FINALE (1999)... ...then switch over to Pixy false by Phantasmagoria (2004).

Niiiiiiiiiiiice Band name reminds me of Daisuke's (Kagerou) solo project 大佑と黒の隠者達 (Daisuke to kuro no inja-tachi).
