Apparently they're not the only ones. i was surprised about this because earlier this morning I read the same thing about DaizyStripper. Then i looked up SID's official website and it says that all these bands are covering that song:

    AYABIE

    R指定

    アリス十番×スチームガールズ

    カメレオ

    ZORO

    DIV

    美空結び (misora musubi)
    2013.10.09

美空結び (misora musubi) is UNiTE's latest release, compiling the three songs from this summer's "serial story CDs" and adding one new track.  On to the review!

    1. small world order (composer: guitarist Shiina Mio)

The CD opens up with some "mysterious" riffs and then leads into the bright pop-rock mode that UNiTE is known for.  The tempo of the song is dynamic, with slow chuggy-riffed verses and a catchy, upbeat chorus.  After a quick, simple solo, it's back to a final chorus and Yui sings a soft outro, as the main guitar riffs play.  This is a very "nice" track with solid songwriting, but nothing about it particularly grabs the listener's attention and it doesn't bring much new to the table for long-time UNiTE listeners.
    7/10

    2. 色即是空 -イロスナワチコレソラナリ- (composer: guitarist LiN)

This song brings a fairly oldschool VK energy and a dark, yet playful atmosphere that's completely different for UNiTE, no doubt thanks to UNiTE's less productive, but (dare I say) more creative guitarist/composer, LiN.  The whimsical/wacky lead guitar riffs lead into a verse featuring some distorted vocals.  Meanwhile, the guitar screeches along with some occasional pinch harmonic action.  After a catchy chorus, we're treated to some good ol' gang vocals/growls, before proceeding to the solo.  During the second part of said solo, there's some muffled "fast talking" by Yui (something I strongly associate with oldschool VK).  Afterwards, the song takes a very different turn, slowing down the pace; this shake up in composition is exactly what "small world order" was lacking, imo.  After building back up to the second/final chorus, the song begins to fade out and a "countdown"-like synth beeps along, until a fuzzy bass lick closes out the track.
    9/10

    3. ハートレス クラシックメモリー (composers: vocalist Yui, guitarist Mio)

This song also marks the treading of some pretty uncharted territory for UNiTE: super mellow (synthless) ballady rock.  The extremely "natural" (okay, natural for VK!) look is mirrored in the music; for this song, it's a very welcome change.  The song begins with Yui singing softly over some riffs, before exploding into delicious mellow-dic riffs.  On the chorus, Yui sings his heart out and I love it!  Afterwards, an all-too-short dreamy guitar interlude brings us to drum-tastic bridge, leading us into a slightly more amped up verse.  We get one more awesome extended chorus (I love that extra melody from 2:43 to 2:50), before the beautiful outro.  I really enjoy this track and UNiTE performs quite well in the "stripped down" quality (if you can call it that) of the song.  Plus, this is Yui's best vocal performance on the release.
    9.25/10

    4. 美空結び (composer: guitarist Shiina Mio)

The new song 美空結び begins very delicately with Yui singing a slow/soft version of the chorus.  Afterwards, some plucky synth piano plays some very Mio chords, haha.  Yui starts the verse off with a slightly awkward holding of a note (the "NAAAA-nimo" etc), but the speedy stacatto-y rhythm of this verse is fun.  The distorted vocals of the "pray for you" part are also interesting.  The following chorus is bombastic with a semi "Japanese" synth arrangement propelling it along (not as obviously "Japanese" as Kiryu or Kagraa, though). The only thing I dislike is the synth ends the chorus (1:37-1:39 and its repeats 2:35-2:37, etc).  I don't know why, but something about this little section sounds very "generic anime theme song."  After that second chorus, there's a simple, but powerful guitar solo.  It follows with a slow, slightly more "Japanese" synth section.  With a final chorus, the song finishes by reintroducing the piano and a few strums of the acoustic guitar; shame this guitar wasn't a bit more audible throughout the song (though that's what the "off vocal" version is for)!
    8/10
    __________________________________________________

Overall, 美空結び is a catchy compilation that lets listeners hear four fairly diverse sides of UNiTE's "single" songs.  The fact that all four are singles of a pop band is reflected in the structure, I think (which may be to its detriment).  The songs are all about the same length (right at about 4 minutes) and besides guitarist LiN's track 色即是空 -イロスナワチコレソラナリ-, there's not much of a departure from standard song structure; everything is pretty "single-ready".  So why do I still enjoy it so much?  Because Yui is a killer vocalist (imo) and guitarists Shiina Mio/LiN are extremely talented.  I don't think I've heard so much technical "riffing" from a pop-rock group before.  They take great melodies and enhance them!  Constantly, they're layering sound onto the melody, rather than simple playing power chords or something.  I'm very much looking forward to the band's third full album, which will feature rerecordings of the first three tracks of this release.

To say that I am frustrated by this thread is a bit of an understatement.

The attitude of some of the members make me feel like you paid something to get this service and ended up not getting exactly what you want. This this is something that exists and you enjoy purely because the love and money of other people. The negativity is stifling. I kind of get the impression that a lot of people think the "staff" is kind of a faceless corporation, that we are in our positions for the power and the glory or some shit. The people on the staff are here because they love this site and the community. They volunteered their time to try and make this a better place, no matter the amount.

We are in agreement that the staff isn't as active that we all once were in our prime. But neither is the community. Pointing fingers will get us no where fast. Throwing people out and reshuffling is purposeless if it is done to just appease a few people. Lets say that the staff posts a lot more...does that give us the active community that we want? Maybe yes, maybe no. And it will not happen at the flip of a switch, it will be a slow burn. The success of this forum rests on everyone here, and absolutely none of you are obligated to do anything. If the love isn't there, then MH will die.

Will the staff be redoubling our efforts to try and make this community better? For sure. Will we try to mix things up by adding another mod or two from the community? Most likely. But I am not so sure that this is something that can be forced. We will do the best we can to get things flow...there are still people that love this place over 6 years since Jake and I first started it, and while things may be massively different from now then, I plan on continuing to keep this place running for as long as possible. The only thing I ask is that you treat the staff like the hard working people they are. Pretty much everyone on the staff here is an incredible person outside of the forum as well and life can get in the way of this fun little place.

    Side notes:
If we were judging you all on how much you care by the amount you donate to the site to keep it running, we would have closed down already

It costs $60 a month to keep the servers running. Every dollar you give goes DIRECTLY in to paying the server (as you will have noticed when you use paypal and notice who you are paying - dreamhost).

I hate to break it to you, but that is the way the forum has ALWAYS been. a majority of the people that visit will never post and just take the downloads. Hell, I don't even know if this forum's community would even exist if it wasn't for the download section.

I do just want to say for those waiting IT'S WORTH THE WAIT. You will not be disappointed.
The quality of the special is miles ahead of the recent and current series'. Great writing, animation, music and a truly proper re-telling of the original game story.

It’s autumn. The leaves are turning and there is a crispness running through the air. Falls seems bring out the nostalgic side of me. Maybe it is the chill on my skin, forcing my mind try to draw on the warmth of fond memories. Or perhaps it is just the shortening days, driving me to spend more time inside, and making me appreciate the little gap of time after I leave work and when the sun drops below the horizon. Whatever the reason may be, autumn seems to stir in me the feelings of the past.

This is particularly so when it comes to music. This season seems to latch on to music I love, and to me, they almost become inseparable. And that’s what I want to talk about. What music do you listen to that is tied to certain memories? What are the reasons why? Does it make the music almost more important or memorable than it ever could have been without that memory?

I’ll start…with the obvious; music that is tied with memories in fall.

Abingdon Boys School – Their entire self-titled album

Enter fall of 2007. My girlfriend at the time and I started dating earlier in the year, which happened to be our final year in high school. After summer had come and gone, we both parted ways on to our separate colleges. I had chosen to go to a fairly close school, only 45 minutes away from home…close enough that I could go home if I needed to, but far enough to be removed from my parents and high school life. She opted to follow the path of her older sister; going to a private college around 3 hours away.

After a summer of spending most of my available time with her, I had fallen in loved. This wasn’t like my previous relationship, where I thought I knew what love was. This time I could explain it. Each little thing. How it made me feel. Our endless silly talks that meandered everywhere and nowhere. This love felt so much more real, unlike the stuff that I was taught was love from TV, but something that I truly felt inside of me. So at the end of the summer, I’m sure you can understand the sinking feeling inside of me. She left, I left; both of us dropped off at our respective institutions. My car was left at home and her’s likewise.

Fast forward to October. It had been three months since I had last seen her, though that was not to say there was a lack of communication. All I have to say is thank god for Verizon’s free nights and weekends, otherwise my phone bill would have been through the roof. But that didn’t make up for the lack of physical interaction. I found my solace in music.

As I am sure some of you remember, Abingdon Boys School released their first album that October. I loved it…and my girlfriend did too, which was amazing. We rarely shared tasted in music, so to be able to share something like this was really special. But that isn’t what made the memory with this album.

Skip ahead to late October (maybe early November, its been awhile). I had the chance to go up to my family hunting cabin for the weekend, which was only about an hour away from my girlfriend’s college and deep in the woods. After some convincing, I managed to persuade my parents in to letting me pick her up and allowing her to spend the weekend together with us at the cabin. After waiting for about 4 months and 3 hours of driving in anticipation, I met her in what was maybe the best hug of my life. We drove back to my family’s cabin, and Abingdon Boy School quickly fell in to place as the sound track of our weekend.

The pleasant warmth of the sun in the cool air, the burnt orange and vibrant yellow on the trees, and the powerful vocals and guitar of radiating out of my car’s speakers all seemed to meld so perfectly together. The synergy of it all, combined with the shear bliss of finally seeing the person I had missed so dearly, just burned the entire weekend in to my memory.

To this day, whenever I listen to a track off of ABS’s self-titled, I think of that special fall weekend…the glorious weather, the delightful romance of a young couple, and the pure joy of music. I think about what we had and I how wonderful it had been. I think about how things have changed. I think about her. I think about innocence. And I think about fall.

Ok, now it’s your turn! You really don’t have to be as elaborate as me (or as sappy lol), but I look forward to reading your replies!
