at this point, i expect nothing but greatness from Alice Nine.
-
certainly. The reviewer also kind of made it seem that there was almost no heavy riffs which i doubt is the case.
-
the band also said that the rest of the album is going to be a lot heavier. so the lack of sing a long choruses throughout the rest of the album is kind of expected
-
the whole true metal comment i think is like comparing the heavy riffs of vinushka to Different sense The Different sense chords are very sludgy (not meaning slow, but thick) and deep, the ones on vinushka are very metal based and thrashy at times. This THRASHY attitude is largely absent from Different Sense, just the fast drums. I'm expecting most of the album being like DIFFERENT SENSE. It's certainly not going to be soft and it's certainly not going to be WILDLY experimental, maybe enough to be all over the place, but nothing unlistenable

Album reviewed! Apparently it's not really BR00TAL METAL, but really sludgy and all over the place, and experimental. And the only ballad is VANITAS, so I'm imagining it'll be really heavy. http://www.apeshit.org/reviews/dir-en-g ... iro-spero/

There are laws in Japan which prohibit the depiction of penetration in any pornographical format. That's why in hentai the private parts are always blurred out. Coincidentally, this is the reason why tentacle rape really began, but that soon became censored as well.

Analog also presents a more rich and live sound vs. the electronic distance that digital can present. In other words, this album is going to sound amazing if it's being recorded in analog.

^The Japanese, despite their exposure to some seriously messed up stuff, largely has a weak stomach for things like this. It is culturally significant. We may not find it that big of a deal including myself, but I'm sure many do. I can't even count how many fan reactions I read to the hagshisa to pv where they were all horrified at something that we may consider sooo juvenile and minor. I remember when a video of Dir en grey's Budokan show surfaced when they first unveiled the PV, and the blood curdling screams that followed when Kyo's eye (poorly CGI'd) fell out. EDIT: something else that came to mind. Tentacle hentai is very common place in Japan -- sure. But for it to be shown through a musical medium outside of the context of anime and manga and all of that, is a big deal. To me it's completely unheard of for a band to do that that has enough prominence in the mainstream for it to get wide attention. (You won't see the GazettE doing stuff like that lol!)

It's not like they're going to tour looking like zombies -- it's only promotion for the Different Sense PV.
-
That is pretty cool with the Japanese version. Butttt...the stuff will all surface online a day or two after the release, so I don't really mind.

My initial response to DIFFERENT SENSE was sheer fanboy-ism. I got really excited and thought this was the greatest thing DEG has ever done. After some time though of sitting around with it and taking it in: it's a phenomenal single but not their best (though technically it is). Different Sense: Really strong song with ridiculous transitions and great performances all around by the members. The guitar solo is simplistic but effective, and Kyo's vocals are incredible (especially in that part after the solo. Omg!), but the transition from verse to chorus is incredibly choppy (the first time around), but after listening to it 10 times it all tends to blend together. 9/10 Tsumi to Kisei: Weird but I won't go as far as to say it's POINTLESS or it SUCKS. B-sides have always been things that bands experiment with. B-sides serve the purpose of being the band out of their element and trying something new. For this purpose, I thoroughly enjoyed it mostly because of the amazing presence of Toshiya's bass and the atmosphere that surrounds all of it. 7/10 RED SOIL (Live): It's RED SOIL...what else can I say? I loved Tue Madsen's mixing on this track. He seamlessly integrates the crowds screams with the song. I liked it...but I've heard this song thousands of times before. 6/10 Props to Tue Madsen for his amazing work! Overall: 8/10

^Yeah! I would have to say that screaming after the solo is my favorite part in the song. Kyo's vocals are out of this world in this song. Tsumi to kisei to me seems more like an experiment -- experimenting different metal landscapes and just exploring different sounds. But that...I like!

^ Well. Personally, I would probably go the omega order route because I live in North America and would be showing my support for the band over here. That and the contents on the deluxe limited being released in Japan will be uploaded a few days after release, so you'd be able to enjoy them anyways!

Looks like Tue Madsen and Alan Douches are mastering DUM SPIRO SPERO. I have always loved their work, so I look forward to this album even more.

I remember reading an article saying that previously the band had not played any "oldies", because they didn't know overseas fans were very familiar with those songs. But as time goes on, they're more apt to play older songs -- knowing that there's actually a large fanbase that wants to hear them. But with that said -- I am also a fan of their newer material, and reallllyyyy hope they play a lot of DUM SPIRO SPERO when they tour.

the growls are actually great. Kyo's wet gutturals are some of the strongest I've heard in metal in all honesty. 2008-2009 they sucked and were absolutely terrible. Now? Great, but still not the greatest. As a vocalist I have always been extremely jealous of Kyos gutturals...I could never get my growls that low. And Tsumi to Kisei sounds like sludge-y death core? I like that. I like it a lot.

The only critique I'd have regarding VK singing, is that standard nasally sound which is found in most vocalists. Other than that, I expect each member to go off and form their own band and fade away into existence, you know, what usually happens to VK bands.
