  1. Going to play floorball in the morning, and maybe in the afternoon, I will go the the university's social program and watch "Goodbye, Lenin!" as a part of it. Read my book, take a walk, and attend to a "CCUSA Info Meeting", and maybe to a The Trousers concert too, if I can find somebody to come and drink a beer with me.

  2. The tracklist will be the following:

    01. the United States of Psysalia

    02. In The Aeroplane Over The Sea

    03. Tune Track

It's nice to see, that there will be three new songs on the album! And I wonder if the second track refers to (or maybe a cover of) the famous Neutral Milk Hotel

    .

  3. So, I will be (mostly) offline for about a week, since I'm visiting my girlfriend in Udine, Italy. Everybody have a good time, and remember that if I'm back, every trolling attempt will be punished. >:D

    Byez! :staru:

  4. Thanks man, iMma look for Samon's first album then. I love jazzy/chill hip hop stuff, but I never know what to look for. Most of time I come across cheesy, piano-based intrumental hip hop that's just so....ugh. I mean the, the beats are usually boring and the piano playing is like...over dramatic or something...I dunno. You probably know what I'm talking about XD

People say laidbook is good, but I've never listened to them before. Have you?

Yes, I know a way too well, what you are talking about. I got fed up with boring beatmakers, who think some piano will make everything 'art-y' and they don't have to write a good beat. Luckily, I haven't met with any piano-based hip-hop recently, only some of DJ Whitesmith's tracks, but they are okay.

Didn't know laidbook, but they seem nice. For example

has a nice bounce-y clap beat, but the vocal kinda ruins the song for me (even though I like 'original' song). Still, I think I'll give them a try! =3

Also, anybody into Rebel Familia? The duo consists of Goth-Trad (!) and Heavy from Dry&Heavy, making killer music: throw industrial effects, hard-hitting hip-hop beats, samples, a bit of dubstep rhytmics and some ragge into the mix, and you've got it!

  5. um...I actually JUST listened to the new telephones album (and I shall hook you up with it soon ;p).

I haven't listened to a lot of their material, but I liked it from what I heard...didn't really get a chance to "absorb" it, though since I was kinda distracted at the time.

I never really tried them, even though many of my friends said that they are good, but once I went through the sample of "Yeah Yeah Yeah", and it got me interested. The screams, those guitars and the good use of synths are nice overall, and as I just said, I like that 'nu-rave/neonish' feeling of their music. Indie disco, haha!

Btw, anybody who is familiar with Suck a Stew Dry? They seem to play lighter post-rock with a touch of emo (think of the vocalist). Not something brand new, but nice.

  6. A friend recently told me about this band... They seem pretty interesting. They just released their first mini album.

Also, I gotta hear the new Tokyokarankoron single, ASAP. I'm really loving their sound right now!

Seconding this, really liked their previous release!

Btw, who is intrested about the forthcoming (or already released?) the telephones album? There are some samples on youtube, and some songs, like Yeah Yeah Yeah sound promising! I like the 'electric - neonish' guitar sound, and I can't complain about those synths. Sometimes the first Klaxons came into my mind? What about you?

  7. But anyways, that Samon Kawamura track sounds pretty smooth! Does he have any albums out? ^^

Yes, two albums. Imho the first one is a better starter, really nice laid-back hip-hop music, with scratching, flowing vocal samples and all. He also collabrated with some well-known hip-hop/soul heads like Oh No or Aloe Blacc, and did remixes for bands like GAGLE. Oh, GAGLE.

Does anybody know them? I think they are a good group - consisting of the turntable magician DJ Mitsu The Beats plus DJ Mu-R, and Hunger as the MC. They are all really active as solo artists; DJ Mitsu has a nice discography as a solo artist and collabrated with many artists (

is pretty good!), Hunger, as far as I can remember, also released a solo album, and appeared on many album, many of them related to the awesome Jazzy Sports label. But back to the group! They are more rap-oriented, than Samon Kawamura, and their music have a more 'feelgood' atmosphere - playful, jazzy, with tight beats. I really dig their album '3 Man On Wax' and 'Big Bang Theory Instrumentals'.

Here's something for your ears! :staru:

  8. Nujabes and DJ Krush as well ofc, but they're instrumental so idk if it counts

Of course they count. Nice to see, that DJ Krush started to release singles again (if I'm right, the second of the three-parts series drops tomorrow/today), since it was a long time ago he released anything.

Also, hope that the Nujabes documentary, "An Eternal Soul" will reach it's final form and we can watch it in the future. I could watch the trailer, before it was taken down and it was promising.

  9. Born This Way the Remix:

    01 Zedd: “Born This Way”

    02 Goldfrapp: “Judas”

03 Foster the People: “The Edge of Glory”

    04 Wild Beasts: “Yoü & I”

05 The Weeknd & Illangelo: “Marry the Night”

06 Michael Woods: “Black Jesus † Amen Fashion”

    07 The Horrors: “Bloody Mary”

    08 Guena LG: “Scheiße”

    09 Gregori Klosman: “Americano”

10 Two Door Cinema Club: “Electric Chapel”

    11 Metronomy: “Yoü & I”

    12 Hurts: “Judas”

13 Twin Shadow: “Born This Way”

14 Sultan & Ned Shepard: “The Edge of Glory”

    15 Röyksopp: “Judas” (iTunes exclusive)

Don't know, if it was posted before, but I'm quite hyped about it. I have the highest hopes about The Weeknd cover, and Twin Shadow already did a great 'Born This Way' remix; plus nice to see Hurts and The Horrors in the list. Your thoughts?

  10. If the beat's allright, Monochrome Heaven Will Dance All Night.

With that sentence as our motto, we should make this thread rise, with filling it with good hip-hop / soul / r&b music. You can post your own favourites, or what is even better, recommend them to other people, so anybody can find a new favourite. Any kind of the mentioned styles fits here, no matter if it is J Dilla-inspired instrumental hip-hop like Samon Kawamura or DJ Mitsu The Beat, hardcore hip-hop like MSCru, abstract hip-hop like Tha Blue Herb, soul like Mahiya, they are all welcomed here.

I personally start this topic up with my personal favourite, Samon Kawamura, who is a J-Dilla inspired beatmaker. He makes smooth and jazzy music with some scratches and samples also thrown into the mix - as you chill to his music, other musicians like a mellow DJ Krush or DJ Mitsu The Beats can also come to your mind. Good stuff!

  11. Oasis - (What's The Story) Morning Glory? (Britpop)

Autechre - Incunabula / Amber (IDM)

A Winged Victory For The Sullen - A Winged Victory For The Sullen (Modern Classical)

Merzbow - Music For A Bondage Performance (Noise)

Robert Hood - Minimal Nation (Minimal Techno)

Nile - Amongst The Catacombs Of Nephren-Ka (Extreme Death Metal)

Benga - Newstep / Diary Of An Afro Warrior (Dubstep)

    J Dilla - Donuts (Instrumental Hip-hop)

    Blur - Parklife (Britpop)

It was hard sometimes to decide, if I should choose the first albums of the genre, or those, which I think that shows how great the genre can get. AWVFTS for example, falls into the second category - altough I'm not really familiar with any 'classical' musicians, I try to keep up with some modern classical musicians - like Ólafur Arnalds, Jóhann Jóhannson (it was hard to decide between his album "Fordlândia" and between AWVFTS's debut album) or Max Richter (his albums are also great!) - and A Winged...'s album, imho, how beautiful and great modern classical music can get. If you listen to it, you will notice, that it's more puritan than many of the listed musician's albums and it doesn't want to be 'experimental'. Just symphonic instrumentation, ambient and you can see Stars Of The Lid in the background (one of the members, Adam Wiltzie is the member of SOTL). Beautiful.

When it comes to noise, I guess I will be alone (?) with my opinion, that Merzbow had some good albums. Yes, he releases shitload of albums a year, and most of them contains nothing really new or outstanding, but it would be a bad idea to forget that he had released some 'classic' albums - for example Music For Bondage Performance. If Merzbow is the godfather of noise, this album can be labelled, imho, as the godfather of noise albums. Not as harsh as you would expect it from Akita, 'ambient soundtrack to a suspense film with slightly less in the way of melody'. No beats, melodies or others, but it still has something, that makes me return to this album again and again. Maybe that I think of it as one of THE Merzbow albums, not just another one, the xyth in this year. You might not believe me, but I say, there is a certain form of beauty hidden in this record. If you are new to noise, this is the perfect album to start your journey.

In 2011, we can say for sure, that the old britpop battle between the Gallagher twins and Damon Albarn ended with Albarn's victory. While Oasis spent years with arguing, saying stupid things in their interviews and being an arrogant asshole, Albarn always found a new style, way or a band (think about Blur, Gorillaz, The Good, The Bad And The Queen, and so on). Noel said in an interview, that after 1996, they mostly released albums just to have the material enough for a tour, - but before 1996, they released two great albums, and the second one holds a special place in my heart. I guess everyone will say 'Wonderwall! Wonderwall!', but apart from that song, the album still has some awesome songs lined up - 'Cast No Shadow', which was dedicated to Richard Ashcroft (The Verve), 'Don't Look Back In Anger', 'Champagne Supernova', and so on. It shows you, what was clear from the beginning - from the The Beatles influence to the fact, that they were awesome songwritters (and they had some quite good lyrics too!).

Robert Hood, and his label, Underground Resistance - a legend. Hood's idea about 'minimal techno' is far from today's idea: Hood played a less melodic, more brutal, consisting mostly of drums, basslines and funky grooves. Yeah, much minimal. And not as well-known as Hood's other albums, like 'Internal Empire', but I think, this is the best demonstration of Hood's ideas and imaginations.

I think I will get back later with more albums / descriptions, nice idea Zess! :staru:

  12. Le Bump.

La'mule is pretty awesome, as many people here were telling me. I recommend them to people who normally don't try out much VK anymore and like things like oohh....NightenGaiL (which is the same vocalist). *cough*cat5*cough* .

Pyuera were also pretty cool and rather unique in terms of VK as a whole. Their music had a lot of electronic stuff going on and for some reason reminds me of the background music in games like Zoo Tycoon. Their second vocalist was also female, so they definitely weren't ordinary.

Oh, I got intrested about these two bands, and yes, mainly because of the 'background music in Zoo Tycoon' part, so, any recommodations, where to start?

  13. So, they are one of my recent favourites - their first release, "Unknown Mortal Orchestra" is already a sure point of my summer's soundtrack. They sound like The Beatles jamming with Captain Beefheart and Beck on the beach, standing in the sunshine. As their last.fm page says:

Unknown Mortal Orchestra first dropped into the world in late 2010 as a bandcamp account carrying a single called ‘Ffunny Ffrends’.

‘Ffunny Ffrends’ was everything you imagined it might be – alien beatnik pop music that echoed 60s psychedelia and krautrock minimalism with just a hint of gentle weirdness that suggested its roots might equally lie in the verdant indie of the equally distant New Zealand scene.

Ruban Nielson is a New Zealand native who had transplanted to Portland, Oregon, USA with his band The Mint Chicks. UMO was a project conceived as Ruban’s escape hatch to a new musical dimension where his vision of junkshop record collector pop could be realized in a sound that recalled Captain Beefheart, Sly Stone and RZA jamming on some kids TV theme too dark to ever be broadcast.

Out of the home studio, Ruban was joined by local Portland producer Jake Portrait on bass and teenage prodigy Julien Ehrlich on drums. They have been on the road all year, sleeping in ditches and running drunkenly from venues when needs be, curling ears and turning heads with their intoxicating sound all the way.

The eponymous UMO debut album is released June 21 on Fat Possum Records. Its probably something you should listen to.

So, just some songs you can listen to:
