  1. The original image limit of the board was 10 or something. I already pushed it up and set it to 25, which I thought weas more than enough, even for discography posts. I set it to 35 now, but I'm hesistant to move it any higher due to danger of abuse.

  2. From the bands I've actually seen live "Die Ärzte" were best, lol.

I'm not really counting bands I've only seen on DVD, because I think that's a different story alltogether. If I were to include them, it would probably be BUCK-TICK.

  3. max·dash

    Pronunciation: \?maks-?dash\

    Function: verb

    Date: 2010

    intransitive verb

Meaning: to go away from. depart, desert, abandon

So yeah. I usually don't announce my departure if it's just a few days, but I'll probably be away for a week at least this time, starting tomorrow, visiting my parents, meeting an old friend etc. And probably too much engaged in other activities to go online.

I expect to find TW in decent state when I return, so don't do any nonsense while I'm gone, will ya? :spin:

  4. Well, in all fairness, it was never 100% proven that Aska was the vocalist for the famous recording of Fakkin A, since it is unclear when exactly Ai left the band. However, their HP stated that Aska wrote both the music and lyrics for Fakkin A, so it seems not unreasonable that he also sung it.

Either way, Aska is the idiot mastermind, and without him it's just not idiot. :(

  5. Well, I guess you have to enter something. You can select "completely hide my birthday" if you don't want it to be shown. Or you can even enter a fake age, we certainly don't care. :P But it would appear that the forum software requires those fields to be filled in.

  6. From what I've read on slashdot and various other sites, someone claimed that Google and Verizon were discussing about the possibilities of making Google-sites faster than other sites with slower Internet.
Yeah, that's what I heard as well. Meaning, if you're a Verizon user you can pay extra to get faster access to Google-services like Youtube. While this surely isn't a nice thought, it's nowhere near to what you mentioned. For example, Verizon couldn't really charge people for accessing a site like eBay or CNN, unless those sites agreed to it. Because if they did they would basically make money off of eBays or CNN's content, while eBay or CNN didn't. Actually eBay and such would probably loose money, because many people wouldn't bother to pay and thus stop using their services.

There's no way that this would have any legal standing. That would be like Batsu charging people for visiting TW. (Well, not quite, but you get the idea. :P )

  7. And if I hear this stupid "OK NOW THEY'RE GOING TO SUCK because they're going major and only doing bad music"-discussion again I'm going to puke!!

    Don't worry they've always sucked.

Lol, you really opened the door wide for that. ;) I knew somebody would make that comment sooner or later.

But yeah, I haven't listened to them since their debut when I pointed out that they sound like SuG with a less annoying vocalist. Many people disagreed back then. But I'm not suprised they go major, it seems a lot of labels want to cash in on vk as long as it's still en vogue, and a pop/rock band like ViViD seems an obvious choice.

  8. I should note that, per se, there's nothing wrong with not being unique. Likewise, being unique is not always a guarantee for good music. It's more important that you do whatever you do well enough.

If I had to come up with unique japanese bands (in the sense that you won't find it outside Japan) I'd point to bands that actually incorporate traditional japanese elements, (granted, there are a few non-japanese bands that do this too). So in that terms, any enka singer is certainly more unique than Versailles (unique to Japan that is, not necessarily unique within Japan). Heck, even their pop scene is somewhat more unique, at least I don't know many 29374-member girl bands ranging from age 8 to 18 with ridicolously high-pitched voices outside of Japan. :P

But your average japanese rock/metal/goth band isn't really that different from their western counterparts, except for the language. And some of them will do it better than some western bands and others not. And of course there are exceptions to every rule and your surely can find unique bands within these genres as well.

But I think that also answers the original question: I'm not addicted to japanese music, there are japanese bands I like, love even, just like there are bands from any other country I love.

  9. For example, a white person could never come up with something epic such as nogod's "Ring-a Ring-o/ZESSHOKU", Sound Horizon's "Jinsei ha ireko ningyo", Versailles "God Palace" or Mucc's "Libra". Its simply out of question.

Well, except that the beginning of God Palace is lifted almost 1:1 from Nightwish' "Wishmaster".

And seriously. There are an abundance of symphonic metal bands all over the world that can produce similar songs. Don't get me wrong, I like Versailles and I like this song, but if there is one thing they're not it's unique.

  10. And to the ones who use Messenger. Some of you know that TW has its own "messenger conversation". [email protected] I'm not sure anymore if it has some kind of password, but I'm sure that somebody knows better?

It has, I set up one after we got a huge influx of strange people that had nothing to do with TW.

It's DUDE, CELERY!? (used to be DUDE, SRSLY!?, but after the name of the forum changed I had to adjust the password, lol). Everybody who's a member of TW should be able to answer the password question anyway and other than that there are no restrictions.

  11. Well, I can't find what's wrong with it. The code is like it's supposed to be, yet it doesn't work. I added a different Thanks-system for now, I don't know how well this works, let's test it out for a while.

Edit: Removed the other Thanks-mod again, because it was really buggy. We'll add a new skin shortly and when that happens I'll try to implement the new Thanks-mod again and see if it works.

All I can say is that I visited another board where the first Thanksmod we had was implemented, and it didn't work there either, so it's a Zetaboards-wide problem.

  12. When: 2000. I had just started studying Japanese at university and thought listening to japanese music would be helpful.

What: I don't remember. A few pop songs at first, mostly from Animes because it was the most easily accessible back then, but I didn't like too many of them. Then I heard 'Knife of Romance' by Phi and wanted to find out more about J-rock. 'Blue Blood' by X Japan and 'Rosier' by Luna Sea are some of the earliest songs I can remember.

  13. 3 years ago, there was no forum specifically designed for "general" western stuff. So they had to put the thread somewhere, which happened to be American. The OP itself doesn't indicate that it was only intended for american bands, so it doesn't seem odd that people went by the genre rather than the country.

Anyway, after the resurrection of this board, I created a general western music forum, and will move this thread there now.

  14. I got the impression that you're talking about which female pop star is better. Which isn't really that related to the topic at hand. I'm not saying you can't continue your discussion, I was just suggesting that I create a new special thread for you. The fact that you might listen to those artists if it wasn't for japanese music seems to have little bearing on the discussion that developed later. Because obviously you are listening to them either way. And those posts that actually answer the original question get kinda swallowed up inbetween that discussion, which is really the only reason why I suggested the split. But yeah.
