I got the common non-fanclub 2 disc version, which to my surprise, meant 4 hours of all members of Merry sitting through and commenting on it. If anyone have the full 6 disc version, do you know if they literally comment on for over 6 hours? Lol
Here’s some general/ random musings on Disc 2. I haven’t gone through Disc 1’s commentary yet.
    General

The band made a lot of general comments on which bits of performance they think went well but the comments on the following stood out for me:

    Gekisei

    Komorebi ga boku wo sagashiteiru

I just watched the 10th Anniversary New Legends of High Color 6 Days dvd with the commentary turned on. The band made some interesting comments at various points, would anyone care to read a little write up on them? If so, where shall I post it? I will try and be brief but it might still be a bit long and I don't have a blog to link to.

Hi @Kira_Uchiha, I just wanted to applaud your tremendously positive attitude in staying focused on what is important to you because not many depressed people do! Whilst it is important to keep moving forward, I hope this does not mean you feel you have to keep improving or 'make something of your life' so to speak, because that's just another kind of pressure.

I'm on the fence about having children.

If I'm going to, I want to make sure I'm in a financially viable spot where I can afford to provide them with a decent life without having to work 90 hours a week or eat only Easy Mac for 18 years. I'm also worried they won't like me, they'll grow up to be entitled, or the world will change enough that it'll be more difficult for them to be children of gay parents.

My boyfriend wants kids in the worst way. He's one of the gays that tries a lot to be acceptable by his family, which often means living like "a normal couple, but there's just two dudes!!!" Sometimes it rubs me the wrong way, but other times I feel like The Gays™ try way too hard to be counter culture and end up lonely anyway  ( @ all of the exhibitionist poly relationships on tumblr). So, it's a moral balancing act for me.

This doesn't solve anything, just distracts you and gives you more problems.

Long time no see @Kira_Uchihawelcome back! There's a lot of good advice in this thread. My depression never really goes away, it's just something I've learned to manage living with. Things I've learned: It's okay to let all of your emotions out when you feel them (some days I cry a lot, some days I don't feel anything at all) so just go with it. Put yourself first, even if it feels selfish sometimes, life is short so don't sacrifice what little happiness we can find. A lot of people take sabbaticals from school or work for mental health. Sometimes you get burnt out and want to quit but a little time off/vacation really works wonders, and not everyone works at the same pace even if school tries to force it on everyone. Exercise and music are great hobbies to keep, they're both proven to release dopamine in your brain, so they will help with stress a lot.

As a huge collector of MERRY goods and releases, (and an even bigger stan), I feel that it's my duty to preserve some pictures, whether it's old flyers, photosets, pamphlets, magazines, or even artist photos. MERRY has been active for well over 15 years (as of this writing), so it's no surprise that most of these can get lost to time. Because of this, I've taken the time to scan my own collection and maintain its high quality compared to what a casual fan is able to find online. Included in my collection are also magazines/pamphlets that are rare because they're limited to Japanese purchase or can only be accessed by their fanclub. You can thank this thread for inspiring me to display my scans here; I mainly upload my scans to my MERRY tumblr fanblog. 👈If you wish to know the source of some of these scans, you can find more info from there.

    *And just in case you're wondering, feel free to use my scans in any positive way you wish. That's mainly what they're here for ^^ I don't understand those who are strict with their uploads and/or ruin their pics by watermarking them ;~;

**What I won't upload right away are album cover scans. I usually provide that with my downloads, or I upload them here on MERRY's WeLoveUCP page, but I will display them here later on.

Dude, I wish I knew this forum and this thread before going to Japan. There are so many gold nuggets in here, I loved reading everyone's experiences.
Last year when I went to Japan I was literally a n00b. I never knew there is this certain "etiquette" to follow at concerts.
Night buses were my best friends at one point during my year abroad. I'm usually super car-sick and it gets ugly, but I don't know what magic Japanese buses use, but I wasn't sick at all in them. The prices are kind of tricky, the sites I used required some "hunting" for cheap tickets XD (I used this little fellow here most of my year abroad http://willerexpress.com/en/   and also this bad boy : http://www.jrbuskanto.co.jp.e.wn.hp.transer.com/  )
They were really easy because you could either pay at any conbini or by credit card.
Also the bringing little gifts to other fans at the venue was so foreign for me. I felt so lost when some girls came up to me like "Here have these candies" XD. But good thing I came to Japan with some Romanian sweets and I impressed everyone with "exotic" treats XD.  If you're good at drawing you can gift people little drawings of the band you're fan of or something related to the concert you're seeing (I saw people all pros and printing them on nice paper and all that ).
And I liked the idea of giving bands little gifts or letters, to be honest. I used to find amusing the fact that there were boxes in the venue where you could put your presents. But it's cute nevertheless. I would mostly stick with traditional sweet treats, letters and maybe small things like I don't know a key chain or whatever. But I've certainly seen expensive gifts there like clothes of big brands. My exchange student ass didn't have that much money, but by all means, do you boo boo :).
Oh and other concepts that I can't wrap my head around even today are "irimachi" and "demachi". Basically waiting for the band to come in and out of the venue before and after the concert. I mean, I kind of get "demachi" (waiting for them to come out after the concert) because it gets all exciting and you get to squeal around with everyone else, but "irimachi" (waiting for them to arrive at the venue) is so tiring to me. But I get the excitement I guess? I mean you get to wave at your favs and give them letters and presents if you have the chance. It's really cute if you befriend some nice fans and you get to chat with them.
Another big tip for me was to make friends with older fans, because if you're nice enough and you like each other's company, they might give you some rare old merch that you never though you'd ever get your hands on and also you can find some old insiders facts and stories about the band XD

This reminds me! I recently found these pictures on my old photobucket account of my hand sewn Merry shirts. It was impossible for me to get legit merch in America back then (around 2007) so I finally decided to just make my own.

Yeah, not great f(^^;) I do really like how the umbrella came out though! I am much more pleased with the second one, which is cross stitch (I am way more confident with cross stitch than embroidery) and I drafted the pattern by hand over the course of a month. The long blood drip in the logo has gotten a little crooked over the years so I think I'll redo that part when I go back to the US next week.

I'm sorry for people who have had bad experiences with bangya. However, like any people, there's as many good as there are bad. It really depends on the band and the fans that they attract. Personally speaking, while I've had some bad experiences, overall I made a lot of wonderful friends and memories when I was living in Japan. Didn't matter if we liked the same band guy or not, and if anything it just gave us something to talk about. I've gone to eat with them, they've made me gifts, I helped to buy those flowers you see outside the lives sometimes - everyone's mileage will vary, but not all bangya are awful. Give it a try, and if the interaction isn't worth pursuing, then drop it. Simple as that. (I've honestly had more trouble with foreign fans than Japanese fan in this respect tbh.)

I've actually never had a to hide a drink at a venue. I wonder if it's a being a tall gaijin male perk or something but as long as it's water, no one has ever complained about me bringing drinks from outside despite signs that say otherwise. I just assumed they referred to alcoholic beverages and the likes. Just bring water and don't drink it in the face of the staff and you should be perfectly fine.

Also, for anyone not living in Japan, if you want to attend a decently compact tour, nothing beats buying a Japan Rail Pass. Unlimited travelling with all JR routes is what's enabled me to travel from Sapporo to Fukuoka and back to see Dir en grey tours in the past, and all in pretty great comfort onboard the Shinkansen I might add.

The "bangya culture" is actually pretty unsavory to me as a whole, and when I first came to Japan I was a bit disappointed that the lives weren't the glorious punky chaos I expected, but once you get used to it you sort of just adapt to it just enough to not cause friction while still enjoying the shows on your own terms. That's my tip to any other guys (or girls) who also feel a bit disappointed at times with the atmosphere at the lives, haha. A good advice would be to stand in the back for the first show for a band and watch and see what the fans do, and then decide what you feel good about, and what you don't. I never participate in furi but I'm always game for headbanging and fistbumping and various other things, and since my main band is Dir en grey, that's perfect since there's no furi at their shows, haha.

Saw MERRY in Liquidroom for their 2009 Underworld [BURST]Tour final and during the set, I was sub-consciously digging my nose (I know, I know....) and my eyes and Gara's met (I'm a Asian dude). Gara then smiled and proceeded to violently dig HIS nose with all his fingers, one at a time and then licked all his fingers while glancing in my direction with a crazed look. Good times!
