Phantasmagoria and the Kiryu aren't kote-kei: just stop. There is nothing 'old school' about 2008, and neither sound nor look like they're from 1996. kote-kei =/= dress up in costumes

I tie music to memories all the time. In fact, that's how I remember what was going during my life. For example, when I was having trouble in my last relationship a year ago, I listened to Kneuklid Romance a lot, as well as Neil. At that time, I was going to school in Rochester NY while working in Buffalo (which are both in the same state, just an hour and a half apart from each other). I had to make that drive at least 3 times a week, back and forth, and had a lot of time to think to myself while driving. I vividly remember wondering if things would get better, if my patience would pay off, and if I'd ever feel 'whole' again. I associate the songs I listened to by both bands with optimism and perseverance. While at school, I had to do a lot of walking. The distance between where I lived on campus and where my classes were is about a half mile, one way. As you could imagine, that's kind of a long walk and it gave me about 20 minutes or so to listen to music while traveling. I remember what points of school I was in based on what I listened to most. Deluhi's "Two Hurt" was big for me when I just started college; I listened to Enya a lot when I was stressing out about exams; 'Panic Attack' by Dream Theater reminds me a lot of my roommates I had from my 2nd and 3rd years; Vivaldi's 'Ete -- Presto' remind me a lot of struggling with whatever depression I was combating last summer. The list goes on and on, but I definitely use music as marker for different times in my life.

I thought 摩天楼オペラ's most well received song was "Anomie" or "Abyss."

I always thought Kami no Uta was boring, but in interviews they did say it became kind of their trademark song with "Diamond Dust" trying to be their happy trademark song (had they released it during their first time span of activities).

I actually haven't heard some of these songs, but the ones I have I never really paid much attention to. ギャラクシー sounds like it could be on the Katamari Damacy soundtrack, so I'm assuming the rest of the songs would be in that same vein. If and when they do a 3, I hope it'll be of their softer songs. I'd love to hear a Shuuji 2 version of Fuyu no Hi. Or something with their eccentric / out-there songs-- Rinchi and Michi wa Road is what I'm getting at.

The only NoGod release I've listened to was Kakusei and I really liked that. Apparently they went from being really good to 'ehhh' after they went major.

Your allegory / adage thing didn't make much sense. When a solo becomes obligatory it pretty much means it doesn't quite fit into the song, usually wedged between the 2nd and 3rd chorus. If you're lucky, there will be a bridge that at least provides some musical continuity, but most of the time that is a farfetched ideal. The gripe comes from said soloing not flowing well with the rest of the song. I love guitar wankery, especially if it is super flowery and has a ton of flourishes / shredding arpeggios, but they have to at least sound like they belong in the context they appear in. Solos don't even need to be complicated, either. I'd much rather a musically simple solo that's a nice rendition of the song's main theme than 4 seconds of shredding because because because of all the wonderful things hide does.

Horrific visions of 2009 rushing back to torment me Where the fuck is Bellingham?

Echoing the comment a few posts up about what I've called on my blog as obligasolos. Obligatory soloing because we're vkei and we sell more chekis if we have our lead guitarist solo for 15 seconds each song. D has been doing this for the past 5 years and it honestly annoys me to no end.

I was going more for the angle of the song that put a band on the map (even if it is a very small map, like "Apocalypse" did for Megaromania) and as a result became definitive for them, but it seemed to have turned into a discussion about anthems. I guess they're essentially one in the same in some cases. Don't really follow them, but weren't Laruku super big before the onslaught of greasy teenagers half-assedly mouthing along to "Ready Steady Go?"
