Headshot - The indonesian directors Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel, better known as the Mo Brothers, once again teams up for a film, and once again they deliver the shit out of it. Headshot delivers a simple plot with simple, familiar characters, and in that sense two hours is way too long. The could easily have made this into a 80-90 minutes film. However, they don't give a fuck and dragges it out to a 120 minutes long bloodbath. This is ultra-fucking-violence from begining to end. There is no end to the brutality. It's a martial arts actioner starring Iko Uwais, and when a film stars Iko Uwais you know what to expect. While not as good as some of his previous films, this is probably the most violent I've ever seen him. In fact, it's one of the more violent films I've ever seen.

Also, don't miss out on Very Tri Yulisman and Julie Estelle, also knows as Baseball Bat Man and Hammer Girl from The Raid 2.

While obviously inspired by The Raid I & II, and probably also a film like Merantau, there's a strong 80's and 90's Hong Kong feeling laying over the film. Which is something I really enjoy.

Anyway, if you'e into films like those, just watch it. You'll be entertained, unless you are a weak ass pussy.

Last weekend at Anime Central, I went to see May'n concert. It was held outdoors which was the first for the convention and thankfully the weather didn't ruin it. I'm not big into her stuff other than Macross Frontier songs, but for the most part, there wasn't a single performance I disliked.

Here's my backlog at the moment...

Way too many, but I'm addicted. My next kit will be the 00 riser, I've been putting it off for too long.  the next custom build will probably be that hguc gyan you can see posed up on the first shelf, still brainstorming on the colors.

So it's been a little while since I posted in here... I've still been building kits, maybe I'll take some pictures soon of a few. A lot has happened since my last post, mainly that I purchased a airbrush and have started my very first custom painted build. I've been working on a custom build of the 1/144 HG mobile reginlaze that I posted photos of here earlier.

here's a look at my paint station so far.

it's really tight, no like literally it's tiny as fuck, but it's getting the job done at the moment. Hopefully later this year I'll have a dedicated room/space for building and painting, as of right now I'm building/modifying in my bedroom next to my bed and PC and I'm painting in my bedroom's bathroom that I currently am not using as one.

here's a sneak peak at the reginlaze

So I've had my airbrush since early April, and I've been working on this build since shortly after, so I'm nearing the one month point. I've been learning and buying supplies as I go while trying new and scary techniques along the way. This picture is pretty much all the parts minus the frame (which is complete sans the final topcoat) all the painting is done on these parts, right now I'm just working on water slide decals and some detailing with panel wash and enamel paint for some added details.

basically this custom build should be done really soon. will post pics when finished in the mean time, does anyone else here actively build gunpla? It doesn't have to be to the same extent that I've fallen victim to (lulz) but it'd be nice to get some other WIP photos and other discussion than just me in here.

FInished playing ABZU. Wonderfully immersive and scenic taking video game as an artsy type to the next level. A bit short clocking about less than 5 hours, but it's got replay value.

Started playing something old school called Final Fantasy 9. It's my first time playing it and so far, not bad at all.

That's a bit of a tough one. Or, it kinda isn't. But it depends a lot on what you like. I could go on recommending Seven Samurai which is one of the greatest films ever as far as story, directing and acting goes, but unless one is actually into jidaigeki and is up for a four hour long epic adventure drama it's easy to become a bit biased, which would probably make it a bit harder to appreciate the greatness of the film.

But fuck that, I will recommend it anyway:

Seven Samurai (Toshirô Mifune and Takashi Shimura)
    Harakiri (Tatsuya Nakadai)
The Sword of Doom (Tatsuya Nakadai)
    Lady Snowblood (Meiko Kaji)
Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance (Tomisaburo Wakayama)
A Colt Is My Passport (Joe Shishido)
    Sonatine (Takeshi Kitano)
    Twilight Samurai (Hiroyuki Sanada)
    Samurai Reincarnation (Sonny Chiba)

Just to mention a few, and I've tried to mix it up a bit as far as genres and stuff goes. Some of these, especially Harakiri and Twilight Samurai, might be way too slow for many, especially Harakiri and Twilight Smurai, but they're absolutely brilliant films with top, top actors and performances.

Should also be noted than Tomisaburo Wakayama, Meiko Kaji and Sonny Chiba which are fantastic in a different way than e.g Toshirô Mifune and Tatsuya Nakadai, which is the reason why they played in way different films too. And so on.

Flame-X got a reaction from jaymee in Dark/mature/adult-themed anime
The titles I suggest below are a bit subjective in terms of adult or mature. So hopefully, some of these have the elements you're looking for. I'll put a brief description for each but it's best to watch a couple eps since my explanation don't do justice.

Black Lagoon - If you like gun action, crime syndicates , mobs, and a society that works under subjective morality, then give this a shot. The violence levels are above the norms and there are a lot of comedy that doesn't have the typical anime expressions. Somewhat a Cowboy Bebop-ish. All adult main cast thankfully.

Jormungand - A team of mercenaries and ex-military specialists led by an arms dealer on a quest for world peace, if that makes any sense. So yes, another gun blazing anime. This show is somewhere on my top 10 list. I really like the depiction of a child soldier here and you got a cast of mostly adults. It has a similar style to Black Lagoon when it comes to characters.

Speed Grapher - This anime is quite depraved and sick because debauchery one of the main themes of this series. Your main character is a cameraman that's got a fetish for taking pictures of dead bodies. He sneaks into a secret cult where only rich and famous are allowed, and in that cult is where people indulge in their desires in depraved levels. The thing I like most about this series is the villain. He's sympathetic and does one of the most satisfying things in the series climax that justifies his actions.

Blue Gender - One of the few mecha anime that's brutally violent. Think of it as Starship Troopers but not awfully written.

Bubblegum Crisis - An oldie from the 80s, good one though. Cyberpunk themed. I'm not sure if the 80s had different standards for content but it was gory at times. Can't really say it's an adult type of show but borderline mature.

Moonlight Mile - Two men with a goal of being astronauts and womanizing.

    Scum's Wish

    Guardian of the Spirit

    Baccano!

    Mardock Scramble (movie trilogy)

    Yosuga no Sora

By the way, Angel's Egg is an overlooked masterpiece. Slow-burning, surrealistic and poetic anime with barely any dialogue at all. It's not as much about plot, characters and all that, but rather an atmospheric trip, or just an experience, that offers something different. Probably the most unique anime I've ever seen. It's not even 80 minutes long, but 85% of everyone who  watch this will be bored to death and the 80 minutes will feel more like 578 minutes. But this is perfect IMO. Highly recommended for people with some patience who appreciate atmosphere, visual style and the artsy side of things.

Flame-X reacted to Ito in Ten Years of Monochrome Heaven!
Ten years ago today, Spike760 and myself decided that we wanted to start a Japanese Rock forum. After a while of debating, we eventually settled on Tainted World (after the D’espairsRay song of the same name). Frankly, neither one of expected it to last all that long; this would hardly be the first forum that we had run together that didn’t go anywhere. But what started as a fun little project somehow blossomed into an amazing community. The fact that this site still exists after all this time has little to say about Spike and my’s original plan and everything to say about the members here. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping build this site into what it is today.

While I was one of the key founders of this site, Monochrome Heaven is so much bigger than just me. That became clear to me when we went under the transition from Tainted World to our current name back in 2011. While to really understand why this is so important requires more context, I don’t want to go into a full on history lesson. But since that point, so many members have stepped up and dedicated themselves to this site, putting in the time and effort (and money) into making Monochrome Heaven as great as it possibly can be.

To every member that has joined and felt like they were apart of a community over this silly niche interest we all have, I raise a glass to you. You all are what have made this place special. And to every staff member, current and past, no words can express my thanks to you - you are people that I have come to admire and consider good friends.

But this post isn’t about me, but about the Monochrome Heaven! I want to hear from all of you as to why this community is special, why you’ve becoming coming back for 10 months or 10 years. Or tell us one of your favorite moments from your time coming, whether that was a release you were looking for forever or a stupid meme that took over the forum.

Here’s some from other users to get things started!:

Flame-X reacted to Seimeisen in #95: Traces Vol. 2 by The GazettE
Not gonna lie, when I read the initial draft, I thought it was gonna be an April Fool's joke. Guess the Zess is all about unpopular GazettE opinions...

Before this release, I never really cared for tracks like Cassis, reila, 白き優鬱, or 絲, but I'm really starting to like these new versions, and they all work well on this album. The reason I never really liked 白き優鬱 is because it just didn't work well with the other tracks on DIM (I think WITHOUT A TRACE or 暪し would have fit better), but it works just fine here so I'm able to enjoy it more.

My favourites are 枯詩, D.L.N., 体温, and maybe 絲. If I haven't said it enough times, new 体温 is my everything! This track proves that they should do another re-recording set that consists of heavier, more live-oriented material.

My main complaints about this release are the mixing/mastering job, and RUKI's vocals (some of the time). One example is PLEDGE; I prefer his deeper vocals on the original TOXIC version. On this new version, he kind of sounds like he's auditioning for an oshare-kei band. There are a few other moments in other songs where I think he sounded better in the original, but I've grown used to the new versions, so again, I can enjoy them more. And regarding the mixing/mastering, I do hope they would have brought a professional on board to do the job better (or that they'd have at least consulted someone), or used high quality equipment for testing.

I might edit this with more thoughts...
