I tend to do vkei looks when I go to J-Fashion nights at a club by me, but I've had trouble with the cut crease and such, I've found myself resorting to an elongated cat eye sort of for it? I'm not sure if that makes any sense. I also have started to not add too much concealer around the lips purely because I'm getting eczema everywhere on my face and I might just need to super moisturize cause this flare up has been around for too long. I've been doing the line across the face lately but I wanna try adding more depth to it, I'll probably sit down w it more.

     5bjZKah.jpg

Send a pic of your eye without makeup and I can try to help you with the cut crease :)❤️

To give depth to the line you could add a brighter line, like white, right above it and then try to create a shadow underneath it using a greyish brown eyeshadow with a small flat brush :)

Look up face painting techniques, how to make wrinkles for example, that might be helpful if you want it to look 3D!

As for the concealer around the lips, try different kinds of concealers. Some are very harsh on the skin. SPF is known to cause eczema for some people so try to avoid that ingredient. You could also try using a nude lipstick or lipliner that matches your skintone ❤️ You can set lipstick with powder so it will look like concealer.

Try nivea cream for extreme moisturizer or aloe vera gel to soothen the problematic skin ❤️ or go to the doctor. It could be Perioral Dermatitis, I have it, if you wear a lot of makeup or use strong cleansing products you can develop it. You will need tetracycline to get rid of it (antibiotics)

@MAGORiA - My God, that looks beautiful. I really don't cook/eat enough varied food and I think it might be why I'm so thin (and not really in a good way) but I can never buy that many ingredients because they all go off before I can eat them. It's kind of a catch-22; I'm nearly underweight because I don't eat that much but I can't eat that much because of how thin I am 😢 how do you keep everything so fresh?

Also I just ate a Big Mac lmao

Oops haha, forgot to write lol

In the weekend I usually eat more fresh stuff!

My favourite weekend food, fresh sliced mango and chicken drumsticks with a nice salad and creme fraiche/yoghurt dip with mango chutney and curry flavour

I also love gratin with potato strips, mozzarella, herbs, garlic etc haha

Find some fun recipes or make up your own using stuff you love ❤️❤️❤️

Also I just ate a Big Mac lmao

Oooh hmm :o fish sauce and curry paste is fresh for many months, or years haha so that is good ingredients

same thing when it comes to broth, I use the powder ones that you mix with water haha

I usually freeze my food in the freezer so that I can eat it during the week. Usually I make a huuuge meal enough for a whole week, that way you save money actually ❤️

Frozen vegetables is great if you live alone or don't eat that much. I prefer fresh vegetables tho but I just buy enough for the cooking so nothings goes to waste ❤️

Meat is expensive and doesn't last that long unless it's frozen. I prefer vegan options because they last longer and doesn't go dangerously bad like meat does 😂 I keep it in the freezer and just use enough for the meal. Vegan options are very cheap so if you don't manage to eat it all, it's not that wasteful when it comes to the economical part. You can also use cauliflower instead of meat, very cheap and you can fry it, boil it and stuff! Very healthy and you feel full from a very small amount ❤️ you can even shred it and use it instead of rice.

Vegan options for meat doesn't usually taste that good on it own. I usually treat it like real meat, put it in marinade and cook it with broth to give it a meaty flavour!

Coconut milk or cream in cans last for a very long time, many years! Canned food also. Test different kinds of canned vegetables etc and you will find some favourites.

Rice, pasta, onion, potato, carrots etc also lasts for a very long time!

If you want more varied food I suggest you to look up different recipes using the same ingredients, that way you don't need to buy that much food and you can cook different meals from the same ingredients ❤️

I used to be very thin too, I found it easier to eat soup back then, maybe try that? Soups are very easy to make, just put in whatever you like in some vegetable or meat broth and water. You can even use cream, coconut milk or regular milk to make the soup thicker and that makes you more full

I usually drink vegetable broth and eat some crackers or fruit for breakfast or whenever I feel hungry, I only eat one "real" meal a day with rice, potato etc haha

So hmmm.... just buy food once a week and plan your meals ❤️ usually in recipes they tell you how many servings you get out of the recipe, that's good because you will now how many days it will last you ❤️

  4. I'm making gaeng ped atm, "vegetarian", kind of haha... not really but w/e

It's fake chicken made of qourn, red curry paste, onion, red pepper, red chili, parsley and chives that I wok in a pan

Added coconut milk, fish sauce, chicken broth, palm sugar and lime juice. Bring it to a boil and it's done.

Added some more parsley to it, didn't have that much vegetables because it's too expensive haha, should be broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, bamboo shots and sugar snaps in it too but whatever haha :(

Served it with jasmine rice omnom

Haha I look like shit, ignore my wig, this is kind of my everyday look. I am not that visual kei anymore, I used to look more extreme when I was younger, pink and black hair with curls etc.

I need to upgrade my hair, but I am too lazy to get a new wig atm 😂 I want to get black and grey hair, I think

    (I am the guy btw)

BTW, what would you recommend for someone with EXTREMELY dry skin that peels off during the day? I have to apply moisturizing cream three times a day, plus lotions and toners twice a day, to keep my face from looking like I'm half snake. I use cream foundation but I rarely do full make up since my face starts looking weird and cakey after a while, so I often do full make up as close as possible to the event in question (I've done my face at conbini restrooms right before a live/instore) and it doens't usually last through the whole thing. I'm afraid to use anything powder since it mike make it worse. Thankfully I'm keeping my face really clean so I don't really need to wear foundation every day (I'm not wearing any in most of my IG photos).
Is there some foundation or procedure you'd recommend? I'd like to learn to do contour/highlight but I can't even maintain the regular foundation on for more than a few hours :S

Use nivea creme, the one in the blue tin container ❤️ its very cheap and extremely moisturizing! Apply it heavily in the evening before you sleep and your face should be moisturized by the morning! By heavily I meen A LOT! your face should look extremely greasy and feel very sticky haha! I like to use that under makeup too. I have combination skin, oily in the T-zone and dry in the forehead and cheeks. It's the best thing I have ever tried! In the morning you just wash it off in warm water and scrub away the dead skincells using a towel. Then apply a small amoumt under your makeup.

To keep your makeup on I suggest you to use a primer. There are many different kinds of primers, you will have to find one that works for you. My recommendation is the Master Primers from Maybelline or the Porefessional by Benefit. The benefit one is expensive though.

For foundation I recommend you to use an oil based one. Even cream makeup could work for dry skin. I recommend the L'Oréal Paris Infallible pro glow foundation or their true match one, Dermacol Makeup Cover foundation could also work.  If you want to try cream makeup I recommend the Kryolan Ultra foundation,  Kryolan TV Paint Stick. It's basically foundation that doesn't dry out. You will need to set it using a little bit of powder, but it works on dry skin!

You could try to use cream contouring, it might work a bit better since your skin is dry. I prefer powder contour though because it is easier to apply. I think it will work if you find a foundation that doesn't dry out.

Even a BB-cream could work. I tried the Revolution ultra face base foundation BB-cream. It didn't dry out so that one could be great for you!

If your skin is extremely dry you could put on a heavy layer of Nivea Creme under your foundation, that way your skin won't absorb the moisture from the foundation. Think about your skin as a sponge that soaks up liquid kind of haha, that is what dry skin does, so you need to use a lot of moisturizer until it can't soak up anymore liquid. You know you have used enough if your skin feels sticky after half an hour or so!

I don't mean to be rude but don't you think I would have tried that by now? When I say I can't it's because the forum LITERALLY doesn't let me.

So you can't post links at all? o: If you post a link I could copy and paste it into the browser to see it

Yes! I mean exactly that lol Eyelid tape on a daily basis sounds like a hassle tbh, but I'll look into it.

I could submit a photo but Idk how to post images here, I've tried for about 5 years with 0 results.

Aaah haha we will come up with something!

Post the image on a site like imageshack or something like that, then you just post the direct link to the image in your post ❤️

Lol jk, interesting tutorial! You really know your stuff :P

Edit: I think super-long eyelashes (like super SUPER-long, feathery eyelashes) can look good for a more out-there VK look. I think Sizna pulled it off pretty well.

    Hc0HU0A.jpg

Haha yeah it could work for visual kei, but keep in mind that asians have different eyeshapes so it might not work for all non-asians ^___^ I tried to give tips that works for most people ❤️Just like cut crease doesn't work for everyone but looks good on some people :o

Good thinking on the eye make up...

any tips you have for eye make up for westerners with “sunken” eyes?

i feel putting anything on my eyelid is absolutely useless since once I actually open my eyes it’s like it’s not even there orz

You mean you have hooded eyes? Like.... the skin folds over the eyelids?

What I would do is either to use eyelid tape, same thing asians use. Hooded eyes and asian eyes are very similar so you should be able to follow asian tutorials. When you do the eyes you will have to look straight forward while you do it to get the shape right! ❤️

Maybe if you could submit a picture of your eyes, or a picture of someone with similar eyes to you? That way I can help you ❤️

The Extended cateye reminds me of Hitsugi from Naito who does it to this day on occasion lol and, uh, big colorful lashes are my thing. Also, the ganguro one is more like rokku gyaru style.

Actually, if we think about visual kei aas its roots, there's really no wrong way of doing it. It's about the eccentric looks so it's not really "wrong", but there's definitely a more "simple" look that looks better with anything. Thanks for the tutorial on that one!

Of course you can wear that if you want to, it works for some people! Westernes usually have deepset eyes, for those who have deepset eyes big heavy lashes could look weird and more like dragqueen/goth makeup than visual kei. This was just to help people who struggles, tried to give the best tips that suits most people who are not asian ❤️

  12. You have all made great posts! ❤️

So basically visual kei is a niche genre that sucks at marketing and most bands doesn't use facebook, instagram, youtube or twitter to engage with their fans. Because of that it's hard to discover visual kei if you don't know what to search for.

Someone asked what the point is to make it more popular again, as it was back in the early 00's. Why I want it to become more popular is because I like visual kei as a subculture and don't want it to die out in the west. I miss the subculture here in the west, it used to be bigger, it was a subculture in the real world. Now it feels like the subculture only exists online...

It's an unique subculture, it's not like punk or goth. People from other subcultures often calls me and my friends "posers" because they think we try to be goth or something haha.

I've made a thread about Visual Kei fashion etc, check it out and you might find what you are looking for! :)

  14. My favourite foundation is the urban decay all nighter foundation, mixed with clown white from eulenspiegel. Makes the skin look flawless, almost photoshoped in real life because it becomes extremely fullcoverage! Clown white also makes it lighter in color! You need to set it though using powder, I recommend regular baby powder. Baby powder is exactly the same thing as the dermablend setting powder or the RCMA setting powder, you only pay for the brand, not the actual product.

I love this white powder from manic panic for highlighting:

Favourite pencils are the urban decay glide on 24/7, works great for the eyes, eyebrows and lips. Also fantastic if you want to draw designs around the eyes and temple area. I also recommend the nyx slide on pencils as a cheaper alternative.

Zodiac Glitters from Lime Crime, love to use those around the eyes... I believe they are discontinued though since I can't find them anymore :( have to find other brands who sell glitters like these... I use NYX glitter primer to make it stay in place all day long, works great on the lips too.

This is my go to contouring palette from revolution pro, it has different shades for different areas of the face. Works great for the nose and eye area! Also it has some lighter shades that could work as highlighters. It's pretty cheap, very pigmented and will last for a very long time!

Kat Von D also has a contouring palette that is good, it's expensive though.

Aurora Lights and Galaxy Chic eyeshadow palettes from BH cosmetics are my favourite palettes to use on the lips haha! I love to use them as a topper on top of regular lipsticks. They also work great as regular eyeshadows, very shimmery though!

I made this "tutorial" for all you guys and girls who struggle with the makeup. I work as a makeup artist and this is my tips on how to look visual kei even if you are not asian!

This look is the basic visual kei look that most artists use, you can create different looks using this as a base which I will get to later!

    Let's begin!

    Step 1:

    94321097ea4d304f5c44bd0fcc5cb414e6a7a288

Always start off with a clean face. Moisturize heavily and put on a good primer that minimize pores and smoothens out the skin texture. A primer helps to keep your making looking fresh all day long, also it protects your skin.

    Step 2:

    08623641f4b2fec84422ad5c03a2b6d2873c0ffe

To really get a visual look you should get some colored contacts! The ones portrayed here are called "White Zombie" and you can get them at regular halloween stores, costume shops and also online. Circle lenses are also commonly used in visual kei, those makes your iris/eyes look bigger! Always put on your contacts before you put on your makeup to avoid damaging your eyes.

As you can tell, the girl in the photo doesn't have any eyebrows! That's because I recommend you to either pluck your eyebrows, shave them off or just cover them up using a glue stick. Why? Well... because we are going to create a different eyebrow shape that fits the style better!

    Step 3:

    4035278981a5d966f5deea8a74c15d4753b543cb

Put on a full coverage foundation that is a little bit lighter than your skintone. It has to be full coverage to cover up any redness and imperfections. You want your skin to look flawless! Also use a concealer to cover up dark circles or other imperfections the foundation didn't cover.

Don't use too much foundation because it might look cakey, you want your skin to look as flawless as possible!

    Step 4:

    6388100368303a97b58dce1464c9087b132a12c2

Set the foundation and concealer with a lot of loose powder to get rid of any shine. This will make you look completely matte and also help your makeup to stay in place during the day. Visual kei artists doesn't follow the glowing skin trend so keep it matte. This also makes your skin look even more flawless! Make sure the powder you use is either transperant, or the same color as your skin or a little bit lighter. Never use a powder that is darker than your skin!

    Step 5:

    42517169058c6eaf170f25e28cb82a5995d7ec0f

Now it's time for shading/contouring! This is what makes your face look more defined. Visual kei artists doesn't do regular shading/contouring since most of them are men and want to look edgy.

What you are going to do is to either use a bronzer, a face powder or a contouring powder. It doesn't really matter what you use, just make sure that the powder is 2-3 shades darker than your skin and is brown in color. Avoid anything shimmery, go for a matte powder. You place this powder using a brush inside the areas I have marked with red and make sure to blend it out.

Don't use too much, less is more and you will end up looking dirty if you use too much.

If you accidentaly use too much you can just go over it using some more of the powder you used to set your foundation.

It should look something like this:

    85882801551e094cab5faa163bc5df904cf90e35

    Step 6:

    40211104e720599738511be5a9d7592b0ae3ce8f

Now it's time to highlight! This is what is going to make your face look brighter, defined and polished.

Use a matte light powder, or eyeshadow for this. It should be about 3 shades lighter than your skintone. Again, very important to make sure the powder is matte! If you are very pale you could get away with using a white eyeshadow or a clown white pressed powder.

Apply this inside all the blue areas I marked on the picture and it should look something like this:

    874092250c7fb1c17e593753eaf49a5c3ab3424c

    Step 7:

    56335005faa8dc5f283409bb82ce7a7556813034

Now it's time for the eyes! Start off by creating a guideline using a black eyeliner pencil. Recreate the same shape as the red line shows in the picture above! The green line shows where the shape should stop on the bottom eyelid.(While looking straight forward, the shape you create should  stop right where your pupil begins.) Hope it makes any sense lol?

It should look something like this:

    129667259cc690a9af1323a8ca0bd689181df50d

    Step 8:

    8066885475f553cf154cbaa051dd8e8f47d206fc

Fill it in using black gel liner, or the same eyeliner pencil you used to create the line. Make sure to set it using a matte black eyeshadow to make sure that it lasts all day long!

Put a white, or a very light beige/off white eyeliner pencil inside of the blue marking shown in the picture above. This is what makes the eye pop and look more defined!

Now your eye should look something like this:

    50164867e9b2220c04e6f409669d8a8795a5f2a5

    Now....

    257478281e6ccb1b5112b910df7bdeabacfef812

Last step of the basic eye makeup is to add shading in the areas marked in red as shown in the picture above, this creates a fake aegyo-sal which is very popular in asia, also it makes the eye look a bit more interesting! Just use a brown eyeshadow that is a bit darker than your skin, or use the same product you used when you shaded your face.

Add some mascara and the basic eye makeup is done and should look something like this:

    63172633ee1c9c02a299bfccba730cd1294540c9

If you want you can add things to this such as rhinestones or stickers! If you want to add a color, a lot of visual kei artists puts a colorful eyeshadow around it like this:

    8601874905a6497be6e805bfba91f1b63a98eab3

If you want a more feminine look you could add long fake eyelashes or more mascara, like this:

    51569683e6982f779e7c0098ff4051ada4af9afe

    Step 9:

    6852164660ba7b67348e3f2002576b65adfad44b

Now it's time for the eyebrows! You want them to be kind of thin, further down towards the eye, slanted upwards so that they look angry and pretty close to the nose bridge. If you have grey hair they should be grey, if you have pink hair they should be pink, etc. I recommend using a waterproof liplinerpencils if you want unnatural colors such as pink, red etc. Eyeshadow works fine though if you want softer/"natural" brows. Avoid black eyebrows, they look harsh. Use a dark brown instead!

I picked grey eyebrows, this is what they look like:

    240950165c24d7c00795fad9e19b0eca25e8d794

    Step 10:

    4427229988af20862c5c176333abafca085bc3ca

Last step! Lips! You can do whatever you want with your lips. Block them out using a concealer, wear black lipstick, red lipstick, purple lipstick.... It's all up to you!

Visual Kei artists often times wear gradient lips. That means you block your lips out using a concealer, then put lipliner in the middle of your lips and blend it outwards! That way your lips look soft, no sharp lines around them etc.

In the picture above I tried to show you easy visual kei lips. It's so hard to draw makeup, but I think I did alright. To achieve that type of lip, you forst put on a regular lipcolored lipstick that is slightly darker than your lips. Then you dip your finger, or a brush, in black eyeshadow and blend it into your lips.

Using eyeshadow on the lips is very common in visual kei. It makes the lip last longer! Instead of lipgloss you could use a very shimmery eyeshadow or powder highligter for example!

Now you just need to fix your hair and you are all done! ;)

Hope this tutorial helped some of you, feel free to ask if you have any questions! ❤️
